I take this song as somebody struggling with mental health issues and being fully aware. He understands that he is hurting ppl around him but cannot himself, which he hates. It could also be a message of PTSD- a running theme in LOTL songs. It could be the man fighting against his PTSD, who makes him a different man. I have PTSD and I often feel like I have a “better me” and a “evil me”.
Hm, I think I've read that it's the other way around, they made the "Matt Bellamy" song first, but don't remember who, told them not to and they change the lyrics into "My better me", yet they release it afterwards. As a fan of their old stuff, I didn't like the latest two albums but I'm addicted to this song. Chris's voice is so beautiful and the music is just lovely but I think I'm addicted to this song because of how I can identify 100% with it, it hits me on a deep level.
If it wasn't for watching rammstein on here I wouldn't have came across mono inc with Chris being in the video I wouldn't have came across lord of the lost or any other band absolutely loving his voice in his songs definitely sung from the heart

Maybe it was the TV, maybe I'm just going crazy, I dunno, but I also just noticed that Chris's "better me" has a soft filter on to cover up the physical flaws that aren't covered on the other half.
