Programming at Home | Quiet Cy-Fi: Ambience

- This video starts the 'Quiet Cy-Fi' ('cyber fiction') project, an upcoming series of audio ambiences, flavoured with a cyber\tech\futuristic atmosphere.
Calm, lulling, introspective, immersive, a bit mysterious perhaps.
I will talk more about this project later on, when more videos will have been released, but for now I just whish to start up smoothly and introduce you to the first atmosphere: this soundscape depicts a calm afternoon (but could be morning or evening as well) at your apartment in the city, while doing programming\coding\hacking (or simply typewriting) inside your high-tech computer and server room.
Features:

► neighbourhood sounds (neighbours talking, distant elevator, dogs barking);
► city sounds (cars passing, airplanes flying by);

One final note:
I, personally, find this kind of stuff immensely helpful for any kind of concentrated (studying, working etc.) and/or relaxed state of mind. I also find it particularly good for immersion (writing, rpg etc.).
Of course it is a personal preference of mine, and I have created this ambience primarly for myself, but I really wished to share it in case there could be other people benefiting from this project.

Yeh me too. Floor to ceiling window in a penthouse looking out over Central Park and New York. PERFECTION. The L shaped desk just makes you feel enclosed and cozy. However, I HATE the dual monitor setup like that. You need 3. One main monitor and two flanking (vertical). Otherwise you're directly looking at the black line of the bezels. I hate that. If you only have two, make one the main right infront of you centered and the other flanked. Otherwise you're not looking directly ahead and are always looking to the left or right.
I have been wiped out for weeks... This one and Server Room 188 are currently the only two ambience videos that allow me to keep reading and working. I love them...!
This is so good. I'm coding all weekdays. I love working from home, because I customized my room to my liking. But, I need to be in the office during work hours and this is just a perfect simulation of my home ambiance. Hope you make more.
I really wish there were more genuine sounding ambience tracks. Ones with aspects that are completely uncontrolled like the distant conversations and the cars driving by. The page turning is a huge part of me coming back to this track as well, it makes me feel like I’m laying next to someone working away and that brings me a lot of comfort.
So, I'm currently working on my PhD dissertation, which is always a pleasure, but I sometimes find it nice to set a different atmosphere for me. I really love the photo you've added to the video and the sounds and tone it sets are great, I enjoy imagining I'm in an office like the one on the photo with a nice view outside. Thanks for your LOVELY videos and the environments they help create.
I'm absolutely happy to hear that this helped you creating your perfect atmosphere. I'm also happy that you appreciate the display image, because I actually spent quite an amount of time in photoshopping it to make it look just the way I wanted. I believe that even the smallest details actively help us creating our perfect mindscape.
That being said, it might actually be very interesting to work on a variation on this particular theme, but set it in an office (that is, a workplace as opposed to a home) as you suggested.

theo polychronis That is very impressive! Anyone shooting for a PhD in history is someone to admire, but someone choosing to go for ancient history.. now that's yet another level up!

Either way, I too am passionate about history. In fact, I'll have my first AS-level exam in history in a couple days! Too bad that instead of actually developing theories and debating upon issues, I'm supposed to learn an entire book by heart.
Caius Filimon Classics is not a subject fr dinosaurs, you know, those texts and the civilisation they convey are quite relevant today, so there's nothing strange about a Classics teacher listening to sci-fi stuff. And, well, being Greek makes Ancient Greek really easy. :-P

I'm currently working on a game. I'm not sure in what detail I will be able to pull of the overarching stuff (like shops etc), but if I manage to get it to the point where the weapon design system I have in mind works, I will surely consider this as background ambience for the weapon routing room! :)

This is a great ambient track. I have a request - something similar to this but with more subtle technical sounds. computers beeping and calculating. I want to feel like I am sitting in the middle of a supercomputer cluster (without the deafening fan noise). Keep up the good work.

I'm afraid that original size of the picture is actually 590x331 and there is no bigger version of it ): As I said, I had to photoshop it to make it look how I wanted it (thank you, btw, I'm glad you like it too!), but the base picture, that was simply the office

+Some Guy I've seen some tech guys use no mouse at all, but all keyboard short cuts to open/close apps.
The mouse itself is a shortcut in many ocationa and can save some time, then again there are some cases where you dont need these shorcuts.
+Some Guy pros use tiling windows managers, no need for mice
I am making a program with plus 5k lines, I need to get to certain part of the code. revpaging or moving down with other keys wont be as precise as a mouse, that can move you down with the wheel or by scrolling down.
I can tell that's a non-mechanical keyboard. More like blogging at home
