At 25 I was lucky enough to be in the front row for this very filming in Leeds, had the chance to meet him at the end of the recording a Legend much overused term today
He never lost his unbelievable chops up to the very end, and that's amazing by itself. On a lesser note it must be said his latest wigs were truly a work of art.
I saw him fall of 86 playing this same kit. Spoke with his drum tech after. Buddy played these by personal preference rather than by paid endorsement…and THAT is a sincere endorsement for these drums.
I do love this clip. I've heard it said that great music can make you feel emotional, & when the band come back in as a unit after the trumpet solo, the groove that is generated can make me well up with tears, such is the utter magnificence of it. Every time, without fail. Not a lot of music does that to me.
I agree. I also like to see the master-and-pupil eye contact that Buddy and young Greg Gisbert sometimes show in this busy condition without breathing space. Erich Miyashiro, a hero in our country, smiled at the colleague praising the solo at the end.
A long gone and fantastic era. Together with the Maynard Ferguson, Buddy was the last one to tour and work extensively with a big band. The sound here is the result of touring 9 months out of the year which Buddy did with his various bands for the last 20 years of his career. The king!
His power, endurance, timing, phrasing and showmanship makes it hard to imagine he had that time bomb in his head that took him out the following year. Makes me wonder how much longer he could have been around if he hadn't had the brain surgery, but then again how might his quality of life suffered? I saw him live five times and met him once. Thrilled that we have videos to enjoy and be inspired by. RIP Buddy and best wishes to all fellow Buddyphiles.
The best chart Buddy never got to record properly. ..yes, Just in Time.. Sad, but thank heavens we have the Brits to thank for the excellent live audio quality here.
Great song. Didn't feature Buddy as prominently as most other recordings of his band do but it was a nice change of pace, he's just back there anchoring the band and the wind players were really solid. Nice solos, especially the trumpet.
TOP NOTCH ! and the Band was Stellar ! I only Wish someone would Pick up the Baton and run with it. We Need More Big Band Replacements Ed Man ( Rock & Jazz Percussionist Extraordinaire)
D---!!!!!! The power and accuracy of his playing here and at his age.......really was just off the charts. Just no words and no peer!!!
It's not Love for sale, but "Just in Time" nice as ever.

Hi,.. What was the date of this show.. Had to be in the first quarter of 87?
Greg Gisbert on the jazz trumpet solo and Eric Miyashiro playing Lead Trumpet.
I miss this band every day of my life.
Wow!! Just, WOW!! The best's last rodeo. RIP Mr. Rich.
He never lost his unbelievable chops up to the very end, and that's amazing by itself.
On a lesser note it must be said his latest wigs were truly a work of art.
Fully restored mid '40s Slingerland drums. Buddy at his best and that band was incredible. I saw them 7 times live. Miss those times!
I saw him fall of 86 playing this same kit. Spoke with his drum tech after. Buddy played these by personal preference rather than by paid endorsement…and THAT is a sincere endorsement for these drums.
This is about 4 months before he died. And he's still got it.

Mark Slade, I could not agree with you more. I feel exactly the same. I LOVE THIS CLIP!!
This is not Love for Sale. It's "Just In Time"
+Sam Mestas -- Correct!! -- Alan Peters, who posted it, evidently doesn't know his arse from his earlobes or his Buddy Rich from his Mel Torme.... :)
Agreed with Sam
What’s really sad to think is that Buddy Rich passed away later in 1987.
That overhead view showing his awesome speed and dexterity around the set is breathtaking.
+erzug yeah man and that was at 68 years old. he slowed down a little bit in his later years, but man he was still a fucking beast.
+cadillacdude1975 He was actually 69 here...this was 1986.
Before or after September 30th, his birthdate?
cadillacdude1975 didn’t look to me like he’d slowed down.
@@mrbuddyi I believe this show aired in 1987 as a posthumous honor to Buddy and his incredible talent.
Monsters! Greg & Eric. I was 3 years old, but I felt that groove in my soul.
There never was another Buddy and there will never be another Buddy. The GOD of big band drummers. Rest in peace Buddy.
Band sounds pretty good
1:06 Buddy gives some "encouragement" to the trumpet soloist after missing the high note. Love Buddy!

The great Jay Craig on Baritone !
From Fife, Scotland!
NOBODY COULD DRIVE A BIG BAND LIKE BR. NOBODY.

He died the year this was shown. Was it recorded in 1986?
@@TheGent2 Probably a few days before his death. Since he died on a tour
The tune title is ,Just In Time...
The best chart Buddy never got to record properly. ..yes, Just in Time.. Sad, but thank heavens we have the Brits to thank for the excellent live audio quality here.
Just in Time! Simply perfection...
Just Awesome
Eric Miyashiro is really anchoring the trumpet section here, solid playing!!!
He seemed very happy with the band in this one.
Great song. Didn't feature Buddy as prominently as most other recordings of his band do but it was a nice change of pace, he's just back there anchoring the band and the wind players were really solid. Nice solos, especially the trumpet.
The god of any drummer.
Lucky enough to shake his hand--genious
Absolutely amazing!
This is so great and I've seen it many, many times, but after 11 years you haven't fixed the title yet??? C'mon Man :)
Boy, I can only imagine the pressure on those guys working for Rich.
Just in Time
TOP NOTCH ! and the Band was Stellar ! I only Wish someone would Pick up the Baton and run with it. We Need More Big Band Replacements

One of the best video preformances of buddy and the band I've seen.
Anybody know the trumpet soloist ?
One of his signature charts along with WSS and COS.
my hero.
This is "Just in Time" not Love for Sale. Great none the less.
I spoke before listening when I mentioned one of his signature charts. As stated a couple of times, this isn't "Love For Sale".
The name of this song is "Just In Time".
It bothers me that it says love for sale😂
Just another reminder: this is NOT "Love For Sale"! The song's title is "Just In Time".
Yeah Joe Mansir is right, this is "Just in time"
I'd like to get the complete show if possible. I've also been looking for the DVD Tony sings and Buddy swings. Any info would be appreciated.
Interesting how the bass player sounds more agressive with his JB than the '82 player with his PB
Who wrote that chart ??
beautiful thanks for sharing !
Wrong tune.... That ain't Lover for Sale... but thanks just the same for putting it up!
Allan Peters...How do i get a copy of this whole broadcast on DVD of this show from you!! Thx
It's NOT "Love for Sale", it's "Just in Time".
Greg Gisbert, trumpet, right?

It's played at the end of the interview
Anyone know the personnel on this recording??
2:33 - 2:38 holy shit...
Mike M the epitome of what big band drumming is all about.. set it up and knock it down!
Any Buddy rich afficianado should check out mike james buddy rich site
Who was the trombone soloist?
Tom Garling.
MarkR1957 Thank you!
Saw Tom Garling twice with Buddy and several more times with Maynard - that dude can flat out play!! GREAT!
It's not Love For Sale
EVERYBODY
KEEPS TELLING
ME AND OTHERS
HOW GREAT AND BIG HE WAS AS Ä DRUMMER.
BUT WHAT ABOUT LOUIS BELLSON "HEY"
Bellson was fantastic and a close friend of Buddy's. They were cut from the same big band mold that's for sure...but Louis still came in second.
IT'S "JUST IN TIME" NOT NOT...... TWICE NOT "Love for Sale"
@edman6968 Apparently you're an extraordinaire, why don't you run with the baton?
THIS NOT LOVE NOR JUST IN TIME, ITS A BAND THAT BUDDY DIED FOR. HETHOUGHT THIS WAS THE BEST EVER, YOU DECIDE.
re steviebsurfs. Ya lucky bugger
Buddy's looking at his players and thinking "if you screw up, ll beat you" lol...
Ездёшь и провокация. Это не та композиция
