In this video we are going to cover what DEX is, who does DEX, and why DEX is necessary. Moreover, we are going to cover the device options for DEX as well as how you physically do DEX.
DEX is a method of direct data exchange between the DSD distributor and customer. With DEX a DSD driver can create an invoice or credit and transmit it directly into the customer's system. This process is both immediate and extremely efficient for the the vendor and customer. Invoices are sent from the driver's handheld into the receivers gun in one to two taps. The receiver will then use the gun to scan the product and make any adjustments. All adjustments are then synced back to the distributor's accounting system which means that adjustments are never keyed in by hand anymore. This means that you will save an immense amount of time and money for each DEX partner that you have.
DEX systems have been implemented by retailers like Kroger, Smith's, Albertson's and Walmart. In addition to this, there are 50-60 other retailers that do DEX. On the hardware side you will be able to use Bluetooth DEX or DEX cables to communicate between your handheld and the customer's system.
If you have any questions about DEX, please reach out to us in the comments below. We will make sure to get back to you and provide you with some value.

So then at the computer (or at the receiving dock) is a converter/adapter that takes the data coming from the 1/4 connector (ie the vendor/driver's dex hand held) into an rs232 or usb port on the office/receiving computer. Yes?

Hi James, I'm not sure about the model numbers or anything like that, but you are correct conceptually.

Do you know where I can find the pin outs of the TRS (1/4") connector to 9pin rs232 connector? I would bet money that whoever came up with the idea to use. 1/4 connector realized the irony of it also being referred to as TRS, and associated the T part of the connector with rs232 transmit, and the R with rs232 receive, and, well, the S with ground since that's its use in the audio world. Bet money!!!
