    Problem with those seat size measuring tools is that they’re only measuring the width of you sit bones. Roll your hips forward, into a more aggressive position [ those measuring devices measure a ride seated upright] and it doesn’t take into consideration the more forward part of your sit bones that roll onto the mid nose of your saddle

    • @AJXOXO-vz1pn
      @AJXOXO-vz1pn 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting. I always thought that measuring sit bones was a flawed method of determining how wide a saddle should be. I think there’s more to saddle width than sit bone width.

    • @87togabito
      @87togabito 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But why would you need a more aggressive seating position? It’s not as if you’re a TDF rider who needs to ride in the drops.
      For most of us non-TDF riders, it makes more sense to just stay upright and ride and chill for our rides.

      Personally my position is nowhere near the aggressive position of a professional rider, but I do distribute my weight over my sitbones and well the continuation of the sitbones towards the front.

    I've been in this rabbit hole for a least a year. FINALY settled on a SELLE Italia SLR Boost Superflow in a size 130. Other saddles were too wide for me. Causing me to sit tilted causing right hip pain. 2 weeks on this saddle and the hip pain is gone. Power feels it's being spat out evenly on each leg, etc. My sit bones measure out at 115mm. Bike shops put me on a 145. No good.

    • @JonFairhurst
      @JonFairhurst 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve got the same saddle. It’s great! The issues I had with other saddles were that some were too soft, cutting off blood flow. Some were too wide in the middle, cutting off flow at the inner thigh. Some are too slick, so I would slide forward. Then there is the angle. Tilt it forward and it’s hard to stay in position. Tilt it back and it’s uncomfortable on the sensitive parts. The Selle Italia SLR Boost has been the best at solving all these issues. Plus it’s light!
      That said, the cutout could be bigger. Sometimes, I think that the best saddle would be just two “cups” for the sit bones.
      This new, 3D saddle looks like it could work well for me in a narrower width. It seems to be even narrower at the thighs than the Selle Italia with an even more aggressive cutout. I like it!

    • @samuel8590
      @samuel8590 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JonFairhurst I never thought the SLR Boost would work for me due to the shape. It's a bit weird. Seems arrow shaped when looking at it from above. My sit bones slot right into it. Very bizarre, but so far, so good.

    I've ridden the SWorks Romin for ages, to the point where I bought a couple extra since they pulled them off the market. I tried the Mirror version and as you said, I didn't like the mesh bit in the middle. I didn't think I would notice it, but maybe because the padding is softer on the 3D material, causing me to sink more, I was definitely feeling the webbing in the middle. I'll probably give these Bjorn a shot, when I break my last Romin. One issue I've had with the old school Romin is the carbon shell breaks where the carbon rails meet the shell after a couple years. They probably weren't designed to handle my large derriere.

    Looks very similar in shape and dimensions to the Specialized Romin - I am not a Spec guy at all, but that’s the best saddle I’ve ever sat on. Nice long nose to perch on when riding slammed and a good cutout for when you’re more upright. Love it.

    the cheaper plastic saddles, once they get worked in really do fit better. Especially in warm weather, they just seem to sag more and be more comfortable. The carbon framed ones not so much unless you go with a really thin one

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @cup_and_cone
      @cup_and_cone 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends how heavy you are and how big your contact patch is. For a heavy person with a large surface area contacting the saddle, a carbon shell is actually better because it deflects less and maintains its shape better to support the sit bones. A soft saddle can flex too much and press the saddle rail mounts into the soft tissue.
      If you like the 'hammock' style feeling, checkout Brooks saddles.

      @@GCPerformance18 Thanks, I think you said the saddle was 155 mm in the video? I guess it's quite personal info that you might not feel comfortable saying here. I have a wide pelvis myself, but I can't get a good measure using the corrugated cardboard method, just varying from ~125mm to over 140mm. The Giant saddle that came with my bike is just awful for me, and so far I've tried a Brooks C17 with cutout, and an SMP TRK. Neither is great for different reasons.
      I'm reconsidering whether to go as wide again for the next try. Bike Fit James on CADE Media often mentions people are going too wide, and that sit bone width measure in the typical upright sitting position doesn't tell enough. Pretty sure I'm going to get something from SQLabs next time, I want to try one of the Active models and see if it really is easier on the spine.

      @vromaka 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GCPerformance18 a cutout in the saddle is a hole, and the hole supports nothing. It means an increased pressure on your other parts, because p = weight/area. As most of the individuals asymmetrically interact with a bike, any small shift to the left/right side of the saddle will shift the "soft" parts directly on the edge of that cutout, creating even more discomfort. I understand that in some cases a cutout might be the only option, it is a sort of a fashion, and bike shops need to make money. My experience with stock Cannondale saddles, Brooks B17, Selle Italia, Fizik, some other less known brands, finally led me to the proper bikefit, and the problem appeared to be not in the saddle!

    90% of the time sore cheeks and a numb sausage are not the saddles fault, it´s a poor bikefit with a saddle that is to set to high.
    That being said...like all things from the "big brands" them saddels are overpriced AF.
    I got me a full carbon 3d printed saddle from aliexpress, a model from Ryet at 154 gramms for 48 bucks, dose the job just as good, only missing the overpriced Name on it.
