It never ceases to amaze - how they can make anything funny. So talented - music, comedy, writing, dancing, speak so many languages, and more. I am so glad that silly Fox Song (I like silly, we all need more silly) introduced the world to the talents of Bard & Vegard. Also, LOVE the reaction of the man on the left - to Bard's African accent.
This is why I love Norway when it comes to the racist topic... Because we say a lot of shit that you can't say in other countries, but it's okay because we all know it's not meant to be racist, it's just funny! :D I love how this clip shows this so well! Bård immediately thinks he's offended Tshawe and starts to explain (and would've apologized), but then it turns out that Tshawe just LOVED his imitation 'cause it was so real xD All comedians know that if you live in constant fear of offending someone, you'll never get to tell any jokes :P My best regards and respect to Madcon and Ylvis for keeping it real and being someone that all Norwegians can be proud of :)
As an African, i got to say there is nothing racist With speaking or immitating an african accent. Its just cool bro . Keep it coming Ylvis!! And love the fact that they `ve lived in Africa to
Wisti Johnston I'm a swede that have lived in Norway a while. It's the opposite in Sweden compared to Norway and Denmark in that question and some could argue we are a bit overly careful about what we say and how we come across when we talk about people and culture. For better and worse.
in norway they believe all people are equal as everyone is only human, so in the end it doesent really matter. So in a way there is no offence to be taken.
5 years late, but I really like that Africans can laugh about stuff like this. However there will always be some butt hurt white people offended on your behalf. It's the same when Americans joke about Mexico. and some Americans find it offensive while Mexicans find it hilarious.
Forgot to add that Bård and Vegard lived a few years of their childhood in Mozambique and Angola. Tshave and Yosef being touched and impressed to hear Bård and Vegard speaking African English. At the end Bård gives Madcon a lesson in how they should sing in African English instead of American English.
I love the fact that the 4 of them can joke around like this and no one is claiming racism. If this were on a US show everyone would be bitching and moaning about it. And, BONUS he is too adorable.
this was 2011. If it was done today, people would bitch about it in Norway also. Even though imitating a specific English accent has nothing to do with the definition of racism...
The Ylvis brothers lived several years of their childhood in Africa, and they comment on this in norwegian at the end of this clip. This is generally known to people, and they often do comedy based on other languages in general. So they get to be funny without beeing percived as racist on this background :)
I only understand the English parts of this vid. But I have seen that reaction from the African guy before. When I started singing a cebuano song in the Philippines and the people there saw that I knew part of their culture unexpectedly - that recognition of unity in diversity is electric! I love this guys expressions, even though I can't understand the words
I'm Swedish, and I had no big problem following this video. There may have been an unfamiliar word here and there, but the context sorted that out pretty well.
You are in fact correct... Bergen city have been the biggest trading city in northern Europe in its glory days, sort of like Hong Kong is today. Lots of portuguese and germans had base there. Aalesund = spanish traders established themselves there, main export was bacalao to Brazil. The Northern light route was an italian trade route, fish in exchange for wine and other goods. Northern Norway also have a long trade history with Russia.
Take it easy, it goes both ways, and sometimes they can actually be funny. We like to tease eachother about our differences and our achievements/or lack of achivements in sports, but after all our cultures are very similar. Ylvis makes funny things, keep it up! Hälsningar från Sverige.
- I started to babble, I only lied. I sais I lived in Asia for 6 1/2 months, made an album with Dalai Lama..... only talked piss! - Is that a joke, or have you actually said you made an album with Dalai Lama? - Yes, it exists on Ethiopean TV if you find it on the inernet, don't think they have internet though... - We have internet! It is a box in the basement. - Did you hear that??!? - Was I racist?? - No, I was moved. I was moved 'cause it was authentic. - Thank you! - Say it again! aso...
This is madcon, two african muscicians living in Norway. First tha man to the right tells he said a lot of lies on Ethiopian television, that he had made a record with Dalai Lama and a lot of crap. He says it is true, that you can watch it on internet. Then Bård starts to talk his african enghlish. Tschawe, the guy to the right gets very impressed. Bård is afraid he thinks it is rascist. So he continues to talk African-English, and Tschawe loves it. Ylvis grew up in Africa.

They are clearly linguistic geniuses. Their IQs must be quite high. They have to be some of the smartest musicians since the likes of Mozart.

I don't even like rap music but I'm glad these guys settled in my tiny little nation. They are natural born entertainers!
You're a genius, Bard :)

Best thing is to get called "my brother" by black people and managing to get a successful handshake. Not racist. Believe me. It's the best.

The problem is doing it well enough that a South African guy just hugs you for doing the accent so well.

*Læættis* haha!
Jeg elsker de to-tre sekundene der Bård tror Tshawe skal til å skjelle ham ut for aksenten.
This is the reason why Norway make so many swedish jokes.
They spent some time in Africa growing up
Dude, I wouldn't be surprised.
I really wish this was subtitled!
Wow!!! Hahahha
trynet til bård når tshawe sa "hørte dere det dær!" hahaha
Nå var vel denne episoden av Ylvis FØR hele mokkamann-spetakkelet.
