    Thanks for another great video Andrew. You may find that it is a good idea to give a slight washout at the tips (raise the trailing edge with the tip template) This ensures that when the wing stalls in the air, such as in landing, that the root stalls first and not one of the tips. About 4mm is good in most cases.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Andrew, I have tried a little washout occasionally. But I haven't investigated it in any rigorous way. Might be a good subject for future video.

    A little trick I used when cutting chords more than 20cm deep or panels more than 1m wide was to number the templates from 0 - XXX in 1cm increments. Then having 2 people on the bow, one each end, you count the markers off one by one at the same time as the wire passes each mark. This ensures the wire passes through the foam blank at the correct speed at both ends, preventing wire drag and the resultant rippling you get. If the timing and speed are accurate, you get a core that needs no sanding before you can apply plastic film, or laminate it with it's veneer if your doing a timber build. It also makes tapered cores easier to wire cut, for that, all you do is make the smaller templates spacing marks 50% of the larger one.

    Lol you always make things look so simple . The T pins seem to work pretty good but I didn't have any so I used pop rivets . Put them in my drill and sharpened them on my grinder , gave me a little handle to pull them out . What do you use to make your aluminum patterns . I found wood don't work real well . I haven't had the best of luck with planes , bit harder to fly than drones , but I haven't give up on them . Thanks for the video .

    good job you don't have to sand of to much to make it silkly smooth
    just 1 question why did you 2 cuts? wasend it easyer to place the airfoil templates all the way down so you you only have to make 1 cut and with some luck you can get a second wing out the same piece of foam?

    • @AndrewNewton

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rustyact01 All I do is carefully wipe the sanding dust off. Probably depends on the stickyness of your tape. Pre Spraying with something like 3M super 77 might improve the bond but I have not tried that

    Nice Demo Andrew....Have you ever thought about making a Fuz using this foam? A plane rather like a Skywalker for example? Using 2 thick Foam sides and then maybe Depron sheet glued on top and bottom? ...I like the true airfoil you get using the Foam cut over the Depron wing, but I would be interested in seeing a Fuz cut / carved with this stuff because you can sand and carve it too....The Foam I use looks similar to yours but if you ding it, it stays that way...Great Tutorial m8...:)

    In my opinion your wire is too thick and that's why you are burning deep. I use galvanized 10 lbs wire on 6 volts. It's much slower than your cuts but the result is perfect, no loss of foam. On the other hand the fact that my wire is not as hot it does trail a lot thus I have to be much much slower. Ideally I think 9 volts would be better.
