PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo Guitar Review - An Acoustic Sound From An Electric Guitar!

  • Dagan gets a first look at the PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo Guitar - an incredible guitar with a really interesting pickup configuration!
    So what's new?
This all-new PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo Guitar features an LR Baggs/PRS-designed piezo pickup placed in the guitar's bridge. This adds a whole new dynamic to your playing and provides a more acoustic voice to your sound - it's like having an acoustic simulator built-in, except it's the sound of your ACTUAL guitar!
Best of all this voice can be used independently, or alongside those awesome 58/15 "S" humbuckers.
The cool thing about this PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo Guitar is that the Beveled Maple Top and Back pieces with Flame Maple veneers, and Mahogany sides are accurately represented acoustically. This means all of the lush tonal qualities of your tonewoods really shine whether you're playing through the Piezo or the 58/15 "s" humbuckers.
You also have an extra output socket, which you can use to send the Piezo signal through an acoustic amp/soundboard, whilst the magnetic pickups are sent to a standard guitar amp.
This is a very versatile PRS SE guitar that players of all styles will really enjoy.

I've seen many hollowbody guitars but PRS PIEZO has the best ever I heard sound of between Jazz and metal. And the blue color is also beautiful.

I've had an original hollow body 2 (moon's) but this Se is much livelier, it just resonates forever when played completely unplugged, The piezo is great but the 58/15s pup's just blew me away. Plugged into channel one of a Victory sheriff 22 with the gain at 1 o'clock, treble @ 3, mid @ 12, bass @11, prescience @3 & master @ 3, with the guitar rolled off to around 7 it was just pure classic rock, yet flip to the piezo & roll off the volume @ its great for finger picking, turn it up a bit and you can spank out clean chords all night.
Loving it, definitely the right decision, the only negatives? they could have put Se locking tuners on it and a decent set of knobs.

I remember you doing a video on an Ibby archtop (AM54 I think) and saying how much you enjoyed it, so I'm not surprised you love this beauty! It's PRS' 335 with piezo, an essential guitar

Beside that, even a suck ass guitar sound good in decent amp. All guitars suck in a practice amp but in a $300 and up amps they all shine. Ehh...guitars review is over rated.

There seems to be a delay between the piezo and magnetic sounds when he’s blending them.

David Rothberg Yes, I agree. Is he going through the mixed output, or is he sending separate signals from The two outputs to different amps?

Wow this is gorgeous...great review! I’m curious if it has much projection played unplugged, purely acoustically. I know it won’t have much, but with the double f-holes it must be some. Could you mic it?

I guarantee you this thing is nicer than some American-made guitars. Why can nobody accept that an imported guitar can actually be worth over a grand? It's got body and neck binding, great pups that don't need to be swapped, great wood, made in arguably the best low-cost Asian factory in S. Korea, comes with a hard shell case, has an LL Bragg piezo, multiple outputs, the neck comes properly dressed and set up, ect.
Idk, call me crazy, but I don't buy guitars to sell them. I buy them to play them. Too many rich folks out there that only buy American axes, thinking only about how much they'll get when they flip them. Not saying you're one; don't get mad. But open your mind, mate.

@@damianmb5 yes your right it does seem like a good guitar and would love to own one but
Just t bought a 52 vintage telecaster reissue so money is tight at the moment with this covid 19 its really hit the pocket with wages from work
I'm sure I'll buy one when things get back to normal always did fancy the American one for years but 4 grand plus was well out of my price bracket
Thanks for the comments work hard and play even harder
      Cheers

Gave this guitar a spin yesterday in a nearby store. I would say yes. It's a very versatile instrument and the humbuckers gave a real good compressed high gain tone. At high levels you get a bit of humming/buzzing but for overall rock/metal/blues/jazz it is very flexible, even more if you experiment and blend the piezo and the magnetic pu's outputs together. Absolutely great for blues and jazz.
