I think I agree with most people when I say that at first listen the new album is a bit odd, and doesnt grab you right away. Ive felt this way about just about every Opeth album over the years. but after listening to the songs a few times, they start to grow on you and you start to feel the vibe of the album. then after awhile you start to fall in love with the songs. Im really starting to like some of the songs on the new album. the one good thing about Opeth and I think this is what makes them so special and different from other bands is that you can never guess what the next album will sound like. they are constantly trying new things and different sounds. and this is the reason I havent gotten bored with Opeth like I have with other metal bands who consistently put out "heavy metal" albums. it all gets repetitive after awhile. at least with Opeth every album is different and you can listen to a different album depending on what mood you're in. I've had the pleasure of being at two Opeth concerts, and each one was amazing. it truly is a life changing experience. ive been to many metal shows and theyre all the same. Opeth is the only band that can put the crowd in a trance of euphoria and leave you depressed the next day when you come down from that high. it really is an amazing experience. I will always appreciate and respect Opeth for the amazing music they put out. I will always be a dedicated fan. I flew from Hawaii to California to see them during the Heritage tour and it was well worth the trip.

The real magic is no song really gets old. There's a spectrum to Opeth, and there's an album and song for almost every mood a human can have.

Love hearing them talk about Devin. I love the community both Opeth and Devin Townsend belong in.

They should have called it Homage. So many fucking flavors on this album its like a musical bag of jelly bellies. Bits of King Crimson, Allan Holdsworth, obvious Goblin, Kansas, Genesis, and R&B all seamlessly weaved into the signature Opeth sound. Pale Communion is just another awesome fucking album from this band. Keep progressing.

I love the Pale communion album. River is my fave because of the musical part and the ending lyrics…
    "In the embers of summer
    All things must die
There's a passage of fire ahead
    Fire on the other side
There comes a time when the river runs dry
    Winter comes and we sacrifice
    Our lives…"

I do not like Heritage that much I like Pale Communion. I think Pale Communion has so many beautiful melodies and fat riffs. Everyone who writes "oh I dont like it. I want back the shouts of Mikael" should listen the whole album first. Sometimes you need more than 3 oder 4 passes before you understand the whole art.

I could be completely wrong about this, but Akesson looks agitated here, and I almost get the impression that he might be wanting to go back to writing and playing pre-heritage material again. I do sometimes wonder if any of the band members ever feel (or will end up feeling) bored of the new direction.

    • @NoEasyFeet
      @NoEasyFeet 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

i get that but Opeth is Akerfeldt's brain child. i've been led to believe he writes most of the parts himself. drums, vocals and guitars of course but i'm not to sure as to what extent. so these guys in that sense are paid to play "his" music. but i do see Akesson more or less not wanting to be doing interviews maybe. i've also thought if i played in opeth (and who wouldn't) i'd go nuts waiting for the awkward in-between song banter to be over so we could play the next song. truth is, mikael is just weird and he's yet to write an album i don't like. he gets away with running the show well. so it's likely he hire's very weirdos too and they're all absolute animals. fucking love Opeth.

They've probably been doing press interviews all day long, and this was probably filmed after the fifteenth interview that day.

I am biased toward this band. There are songs I skip on every record yet I don't think they have ever put out a "bad" album. That being said, I can see why fans of the earlier records might not like this album or Heritage. I dig all the prog rock references they throw back to so I am able to enjoy both albums. For a prog rock album, Pale Communion is fairly reigned in and deliberate. So on that front, fans who enjoy more wild and experimental prog rock (some of King Crimson comes to mind) may not like this album in terms of the genre it pulls from. Personally I prefer reigned in and deliberate. I have heard prog rock songs before that have parts that go too far in an aimless direction (dogs from pink floyd's animals for instance) and that can ruin whole tracks for me. This album does not do that (my opinion of course) and I can listen to it all the way through. That, to me, is a Great album.

I am a metal fan who basicly gives everything a try, I wouldnt consider myself as a fan, but I loved some of their albums, and yes, I am aware that they changed their music style

☆ vermillioN ☆ maybe give it a couple more listens through. With their albums it generally takes a few times through before I start to appreciate everything fully. There are many memorable parts throughout the album, I've had different pieces stuck in my head throughout the week :)
