    You're beautiful! I really believe that everyone has unique, beautiful features and covering those up with makeup means the world misses out on what we all have to offer.
    What's your story? What things do you love about yourself? Comment below!!!

    Makeup was actually the first area that I downsized and minimized, so it is a topic that is really close to my heart. Honestly, my initial motivation was out of jealousy, because I had just moved in with my husband (boyfriend at the time), and I was jealous that he was able to be more spontaneous because it didn't take him as long to get ready as me.
    I would say that confidence and learning to be comfortable in your skin from the inside out is key, but I also have my own recommendation for anyone that is thinking about minimizing makeup but is unsure about it: take your time. For me, I was not ready to go completely makeup free because I needed time to adjust and become comfortable with my natural appearance. I recommend eliminating one thing at a time - for me it was mascara, then eye shadow, then foundation, then powder. I adjusted to each elimination before making another, which made the process so much easier. I'm not completely makeup free yet because I still wear eyeliner, but I'm hoping to lighten the color over time until I feel I don't need it anymore.
    Hope this helps someone interested in downsizing/eliminating their makeup!

      Yeah, totally good thoughts! I'm so glad to hear from someone who has worn more makeup before because that's a perspective I can't really speak from, so thank you so much for sharing. Really good idea for anyone who wants to get to no makeup but is really nervous to just go cold turkey. Thank you so much for your comment!! -Aubry

    This was one of the best videos I watched on why and how to accept not wearing makeup. I went from full face to recently to just concealer, and brow gel, I don’t feel beautiful and I feel in a way under advantaged. But I’m slowly starting to love myself with less makeup and I hope maybe someday I can go the full mile, thanks for making us feel beautiful. The you don’t actually need makeup part did it for me.

    I stopped wearing makeup about 8 months ago when I really thought hard on the idea of who I was wearing make up for. I didn't have a good reason. For many years I thought it made me look better, but really it didn't. Worst still, it made my skin so much worse. Spending time working out what my skin needs to thrive (good diet and kind products for cleaning my face), getting hormones sorted out and it all worked out. I love the freedom and you know what? No one has ever noticed or commented that I don't wear any make up!

    I have sensitive skin that tends to break out often and I have ginger hair, so my lashes and brows are almost invisible light coloured, which makes you focus even more on the blemishes and redness. But now I found a good face peeling which helps with the breakouts and an easy lash and brow dying kit, which helps me go without make-up most days.
    I don't like how my skin feels with make-up on and you always have to be careful not to smear anything (like when your boyfriend gives you a big hug and you go "Carefull, I'm wearing make-up!" or when you're enjoying nature: "How nice, a light sommer rain...oh nooooo, my make-up!").
    So thanks for the encouragement and the reminder that we are all beautiful as we are!

      I think pale and ginger is so beautiful!! I'm so happy to hear that you're learning your face and skin and how to rock it :) and it is so true about wearing makeup, I would accidentally smear it by rubbing my eyes or face all the time when I wore makeup 😂

      Yep, that's 100% true. I went through a period of having super bad acne, the worst I've ever had in my life. It was a whole lot harder to not wear makeup during that period, especially since not wearing makeup still didn't make it any better. However, I do think it's possible, and I actually did it for the majority of the time I had really bad acne. I think that everyone should do what makes them the most confident, though! If you are really more confident wearing makeup, then go for it! I have nothing personally against makeup. But for me, I'm more confident without it, and I love helping others grow their confidence as well! Thanks so much for your thoughts!! -Aubry

      Very true, but its also a catch 22. Wear makeup to hide 'imperfections' which clogs up your pores with chemicals and makes the imperfections worse, which you need to cover with more makeup

      I don't wear makeup and believe me my skin isn't great lol. I also always seem to have the biggest under eye dark circles known to man. So likely many may wonder at times why I don't wear makeup but I find I end up feeling more insecure with makeup on than without it. I have sensitive skin so I'm prone to breakouts and as much as the idea of covering that with makeup sounds great I find it usually makes things even worse. I also have sensitive eyes so any kind of mascara or under eye concealer always makes my eyes sting which causes them to get red and puffy. I see deciding to wear or not wear makeup as a personal choice and neither to me it wrong. For me makeup causes more harm than good and I feel better without it.

      I have found my skin cleared up by not wearing it. If I have an event and I put on make-up for said event I get like 5 new zits. I know it's hard but I think trying a skin detox is a good idea for someone with acne. My confidence has also grown without make-up.

    I used to love makeup, it was one way I could show my creativity and I was even a makeup artist for some time. But then the superficialness of it all started to get to me and around the same time I got a new job that just didn't call for a full face of makeup. I still enjoy doing my makeup on special occasions, which are rare in my life (couple times a year) but other than that I never wear makeup. I'm so used to it now that I can hardly stand mascara on my lashes anymore. That being said, I'm also having more acne now than I ever did in high school or college, so I haven't given up concealer yet. But personally, I feel that if putting a little concealer on some spots makes me focus more on other people and not on the huge pimple on my chin or forehead, then that's okay. Great video and I'm so glad I found your channel!

    Oooh man this is SO hard for me... my mom started putting makeup on my face when I was only 3 years old and she wouldn't even leave her BEDROOM before she had on a full face of makeup. :( I want to stop wearing makeup but I look SO different when I do and my under eye dark circles are genetic and STARK on my pale skin. I want more confidence and pray to God to see myself as he sees me. ... anyway, I won't go on about all that...
    3 things I love about my natural face:
    - my jawline
    - my cheekbones
    - my clear skin
    Thank you Aubry! I will try wearing less today. ♡

    I love the look and style of this girl, so au natural beautiful. I especially love her hairstyle, which has a retro feel and look to it, I just wished more young women would bring this type of hairstyle back. I also like how her glasses matches her hair. This is the type of young women with unique natural beauty that tends to stand out in a crowd of artificial fake looking girls which you see so much of today.

    Thanks for this video, I've just found you guys through your capsule videos. My partner and I are currently in the process of planning our Tiny House build so are chucking out more stuff. Really inspiring. I loved this video and could really relate. I never got into wearing foundation like many of my friends did and Im really grateful for that but in my teen years would never have been seen leaving the house without eyeliner and mascara. That gradually relaxed more and more and now i wear mascara some days and not others but it doesn't really effect how I feel that day (attractive/not attractive. Very occasionally Ill wear eyeliner. But the main thing is there is no emotional attachment to using makeup, its not a crutch that I lean on for confidence any longer which is amazing. xxx

    I love my eyes, my shoulders, my neck, and my muscles! I'm only really self-conscious about the dark circles under my eyes, because they are always there, no matter what I do. So sometimes I wear foundation just to cover the circles and acne, so people don't make rude assumptions about them. However, I have cared less and less over the years about what people think, and today, I only wear makeup for special occasions and cosplay. Like you, I had an amazing mother growing up who always told me I was beautiful and I think partially because of that, I have had pretty strong confidence in myself, as a child as well as an adult. Thanks for spreading such a positive message! And I can't wait until I begin my own travels! Your videos are helping a lot with the preparation!

    I recently downsized my make-up use a lot. First it was mostly due to the fact that I was no longer allowed to wear full face make-up by my dermatologist because of acne. Now, almost a month later, it's become quite a habit to go out with an almost bare face. I've always used make-up to stand out, to make myself noticed so it was quite scary going without it. By now, it doesn't bother me anymore. I am more then just a face full of make up. And that's what I tell myself every day when I stand in front of the mirror. I am not sure if I could fully quit make-up. I applaud you women who can go without it, but I need some form of self-expression going on in my face: some nice eye shadow, a luxurious lip color, just my brows. Keeping it minimal by choosing just one item to emphasise, makes me appreciate my features more (even the 'less perfect' ones). I learned that I can be just as bold and expressive without covering my whole face and I think that's a message we should spread to the world. Love your freckles, your curly (short in my case) hair, love the way the light reflects in your eyes and on your skin. Love yourself just the way you are.
    PS: I only just now came across your channel and love everything I've seen so far. Looking forward to future videos.

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See, but that's so cool that you use it for self-expression! I think it's awesome that women have the ability to express ourselves on the most personal piece about us - our face - with makeup. I hope I'm not taking away from that in this video. My main goal is to help women who feel like they need makeup to be beautiful understand that they actually don't. I'm a massive fan of self-expression, so if that's what makeup is for you, then DO YOU! Thank you so much for your comment! -Aubry

    I loved this video! I like wearing make up as a way to accentuate my features but recently I've been wearing less and less of it. My reason is that I just don't like the chemicals in it or the way it makes my skin feel. It just feels heavy and cake-y, eww! Currently, I only wear bronzer (which I make) and eyeliner (which I buy) but I don't feel like I need more. I have a few freckles and dark spots, that I love! my skin imperfections are mine and it's part of what makes us so unique! I definitely don't believe in covering them up as a way "feel or boost" your confidence - it's a bandaid. As soon as the make up comes off you're back to wanting to cover it up - it's just not a healthy way to live. Anyway! Great video! I recently found your channel and I'm so happy I did! It's nice to meet other like minded people.

    I went to an all-girls high school, which I credit 100% to my comfort with not wearing makeup. There was no expectation to look good (or like anything besides a goblin) on a daily basis. I do like to wear makeup but I don't ever feel like I have to.

    Some days I wear no makeup, other days I wear just a little bit of light foundation, mascara and a bit of lippy. That's a minimalist look for me (no eyeshadow, liner, and I've never used highlighters or contouring) but I love a pop of lip colour to go with my outfit! I do find I feel more confident when my skin tone is evened out by light foundation, but I'd like to improve my skin so I don't need it. I'm not really sure how to combat natural colour unevenness, though, and I think perhaps I'll just have to get used to it! But either way, I'm glad I'm not reliant on a full face to get me out of the house anymore. I think it's healthier to be comfortable just with being yourself! Thanks for this video! 👍🏻

I have also had a lot of compliments on my smile and I didn't really think anything of it until one day I found myself staring at my smile in a mirror, which only made me smile even more. I have rarely worn makeup my whole life. My parent also rarely wore when I was growing up and definitely didn’t teach it as a thing to do so I’ve actually often been envious of those who know how to wear it well and in complicated ways and I’ve enjoyed rare times they’ve done it for me, but I’m also glad that I don’t cause it’s so much simpler. AND with time I definitely stopped noticing things I didn’t like about myself to the point that I didn’t see a reason to use it. I usually own a little bit that get used once a year maybe not even that! I think it’s made life better for me, but no judgement for those who do wear it!

    I stopped wearing makeup about 14 months ago. I had become so insecure in my natural self, felt I was ugly and didn't have nice skin. The first 6 months I wore literally nothing. The next 6 months I dabbled on and off with a little makeup again, brows, eyeliner, bb cream, highlighter. Every time I hated the end result. Because it didn't feel like me. Bare faced I felt like myself. And I'm so happy I stopped wearing make up despite my mother, and society making me feel like I should.

    I don't wear makeup every day, just when I dress up. Most days I wear sweats or yogas to class with my hair on top of my head. When I dress up and don't wear makeup, I just feel like it looks off, ya know? I like how I look with makeup and I also like how I look without it depending on the occasion. I wanna hear your opinion on this though.. thanks!

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah totally! I went to a wedding yesterday and was kinda missing the makeup, haha. I've tried to incorporate the natural look into the rest of my style - wearing more neutral colors, loose-ish clothes, and just really simple, if that makes sense. So when I dress up, I'm still sort of matching, at least that's what I think? (Not sure because I'm the furthest from a fashion expert, lol.) Also, I've begun to pay more attention to other areas like making sure my eyebrows are under control (they for sure weren't in this video, lol), and making sure my face is clean and fresh, etc. So there's still intentionality there, even without makeup.
      Those are just some things that came to mind, but I'd love to hear more of what you think! Thanks for commenting!! -Aubry

I grew up very similar, with parents who told me they loved me and I didn't need make-up (plus they wouldn't pay for it) so going makeup free for over a year now has fortunately been pretty easy. I like my eye shape, I like my widows peak, and I also like my single dimple on the upper part of my cheek. On another note this video helps a lot. I haven't been wearing make up a lot lately. It's great but then sometimes I get urges when I see these BEAUTIFUL women with amazing made up faces and then I get self conscious when I see women who wear no makeup with perfect healthy skin. But now I'm learning to be content with my journey and I'm on my way to fully giving up make up. I recently learned the skin eats what is put on it and I'd rather soak up water than cakes foundation, waterproof liner, and brittle mascara. It's incredibly amazing the way your parents taught you that you don't need to wear makeup!!
    Last summer, I went months without wearing makeup. I traveled to Australia, was staying in hostels and felt good about my natural, bare face. I didn't even shave my legs and felt confident about it. But when I got a job in a hair salon, they told to wear make up, so I fell back into it. That's when I started filling in my eyebrows. Now I like the way it looks and I feel bare without them filled in. Most times tho, I wear nothing but my eyebrows. Mostly because taking off mascara is really annoying. And sometimes I wear more makeup, like mascara, eyeliner, highlighter, but that's only for fun, because I like the way I look even without it.
    I wish I felt as confident about my eyebrows when they're natural as I do when I fill them in. I know I will eventually do, but it saddens me a little when I think I look better with them on, because I know I am truly beautiful and people don't actually care whether I fill them in or not.

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mks That is so awesome!! I completely understand wanting to improve your skin first. I had pretty bad acne for almost a year and it was so hard to go without makeup during that time. I will totally do skin care routine video once I have one. I'm working on developing mine right now. My whole life I've broken out when I wash my face regularly (which is super backwards but I think it has to do with the harsh chemicals). I think I finally found a soap that doesn't make me break out (olive oil soap) and now I'm working on finding a natural moisturizer. The one thing I have found that is amazzzzing is putting a few drops of tea tree essential oil in jojoba oil for a homemade acne treatment. After I wash my face, I put that on any breakouts I have and in the morning, the redness is gone and it's not inflamed anymore. Everyone's skin is so different though, so you might have to experiment with different carrying oils. Anyways, hope that helps! And if you have any tips for me on natural moisturizers, let me know!!

    oh man i needed to watch this today! i've been make-up free on and off, and whenever i don't wear makeup it lasts maaaaaaaaybe two or three weeks, and then i feel like i have to wear makeup so i start wearing it again. there are some days where i like putting a little concealer on, putting some mascara on, and filling in my eyebrows a little bit, but most of the time i do it because i feel like i have to! i don't know how to break that cycle and i'd really like to just go 100% make-up free because i know my skin will do better with that.

    I have never really worn makeup since neither my mum nor my friends wore any and I wasn't interested in trying it out myself.
    I got a cover up stick wich is good for your skin from my mum when I got pimples in puperty. Now I have two different colors of lipsticks, one mascara and one eyeliner. I just wear them whenever I feel like it and I'm perfectly happy like that. Once a month I get some Pimples on my face and chest. I'm perfectly fine with ignoring them.

    I barely wear makeup anymore. I'm trying to work on my skin. I have oily skin and I've had a lot of acne lately. (If anyone has recommendations, I'd be open to them and appreciative.) Also, stopping the makeup has probably made it worse cause it used to soak up the oil. I have light skin, eyes and hair. You can't really see my eyebrows or lashes and I used to hate that but now I've learned to love it. I was a heavy makeup wearer. I would cake my face. For the first four months without I was like whose this person. Or it's not perfect or people are judging. But in time you get used to it. And you build confidence. Also whoever is around you should love you for you, regardless of it! It's definitely a process though, like I said. Also, what I like to do is focus more on the clothes I feel cute in. I've actually changed my style a lot. Being more bolder and creative in that way. :)

    I hadn't worn makeup since my twenties then my boyfriend passed away from cancer in May and I wanted to pamper myself. So I started wearing a little make-up to pamper myself. I can't wear eye make-up coz of allergies but I was finding that my eyes still felt irritated from the cream blush and concealer I wore on my cheeks to hide age spots. So I stopped wearing it. I do just like a little lip balm or some lipstick occasionally. So I'm not completely make-up free. But I definitely feel like less is more.

    1.) I love my lips 2.) I love my very dark brown eyes 3.) I love my native dark skin tone With my current job I do feel like I need to wear makeup because I work at a cemetery. So I have to wear a black suit everyday and I feel like its professional to do so...I wear makeup maybe once a week. Previously when I worked in the tree industry and I was living in a very liberal area I didn't wear it maybe once a month. Growing up I was very insecure (in the closet) and did not have any emotional support and I couldn't leave the house without makeup. Moving away and having the freedom to be myself is really what changed that. My significant other feels like she always has to have her hair done and makeup on...sometimes it breaks my heart because she is the most beautiful woman in the world to me. She says she has to in order for respect and professionalism...And I can't argue cause sometimes I feel like I need it to be professional with a suit on.

    Love this. I rarely wear makeup and when I do I really enjoy it because it makes me feel different (whether that be fun or glamorous or badass). I think cutting down helped me feel more like myself and more like I was appreciating myself. I love my cupid's bow, my nose and my smarts.

    i had a heavy dependence on makeup for years!! i wouldn’t even let my best friends see me without makeup. then i started travelling and makeup was such a hassle so i just stopped wearing it. it’s been a strange transition, but i’m finally getting used to it. an important thing to note is that someone who’s been wearing makeup for a long time will think she looks extremely unattractive without it. it’s because her brain is not used to the way she looks. for me, the first few months of looking in the mirror were like “OH GOD” but i trusted my friends and family that i looked good, and eventually i grew into looking in the mirror and liking what i see :)

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES so beautiful to see you trusting your friends and family :) I completely agree about how you have to get used to it. Now, when I put makeup on, I feel totally unnatural and uncomfortable in it. But I can remember times when I got used to my look with makeup and when I took it off, I didn't like the look of it.

    So much yes! Thank you for creating this video Aubry :). I also typically don't wear makeup. It was easiest for me to make that change when I stopped going to an office and working from home. Also, my husband says the same thing as yours :). For other women out there...I'm going to guess 90% or more of men like a makeup free face! One thing I haven't done is purged the makeup...I still wear it about once a month, maybe it will be less once we have completed our minimalizing and hit the road. What I love about myself 1) my great skin 2) my internal happiness - I wouldn't give that up for anything external 3) my healthy body. I do need to add that I did have eye lash extensions for most of this year. The eye lash extensions gave me the confidence to be makeup free, because at least it looked like I had mascara on. However, after originally finding Eamon & Bec th-cam.com/channels/4laAHbk8VSgmvB47tsd2XQ.html and seeing Becca's beautiful face with no mascara...she gave me the confidence to stop the eye lash extensions. Aubry, this video is giving me the confidence to not want to wear makeup again and jump on the movement to inspire other women!

    I have struggled with severe acne most of my life, i am 20 and i have had acne since i was about 14. I always wore a full face of makeup, this includes thick foundation, bronzer and just about everything. My acne has settled but i do have redness and scaring on my face. I haven't worn makeup in about a year and my skin has noticed a difference! So to all the people out there with bad skin like me, you can go makeup-less too :)

    Makeup also ages the skin-all that tugging, applying, and washing can cause a lot of disturbances in skin pH and elasticity, which results in more wear and tear over time. Even though makeup is supposedly ‘breathable’ now, the truth is that it does contain petrochemical-based compounds and preservatives that can diffuse into your skin and cause even more damage (in fact makeup and nail products contain many endocrine disrupters that can accumulate in women’s bodies and cause hormonal problems).
    It’s just objectively not good for skin health, apart from lowering self-esteem and making people feel bad about their natural faces.

    I wish my skin was clear, then I would go without makeup for sure! I am cutting out sugar and avoiding dairy (and maybe taking out my IUD) to clear up my face. Even if it's still a little red I don't care, as long as it's not fully breaking out! I loved in HS when I didn't break out and people said I had such natural beauty. That felt way better than wearing makeup
    I love my eyes, freckles on my arms, and my toes/feet lol

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually had way clearer skin in high school as well, weird! I've started washing my face with Dr. Bronner's melaleuca and then putting melaleuca essential oil mixed with jojoba oil on my zits, and they're usually way less red and irritated by the next morning and gone within 2-3 days. I've also found that washing my face less often is better than washing it every morning and night. That's just me though, I think my skin just really doesn't like chemicals in most face soaps. Not wearing makeup has helped a lot too, but I did go through a year-long phase where my skin was wayyyy more broken out than usual and I finally did curology to get rid of it. I don't know if you'd want to look into that since it's obviously not zero waste and has a lot of chemicals, but it cured my acne, got me back to where I was at in high school after just a month of using it, and now I don't have a problem anymore. Anyways, that was probably totally uncalled for advice, but that has been my experience with acne and if you had clear skin in high school like I did, similar things might work! Thank you so much for your comment! (Sorry this was long lol.) -Aubry

    i use to wear an unhealthy amount of makeup when I was in highschool. When I got to 11th grade I decided to give it all up, then i actually went back to it, I'm kinda convinced its somewhat addictive and a form of insecurity. My family would actually wonder why i dont wear it which didnt help with my self esteem. Slowly my mom began to agree that I did in fact look better without. Since then the only thing i ever wear is a tiny bit of mascara twice a week. I had this idea that if I didnt wear makeup then I wouldnt find a man, but now my thinking is opposite. Why would i want a man if he's only attracted to me with makeup? I think it's important to show people your true face 90 percent of the time because I remember when I wouldnt wear makeup in highschool people would ask me if I was tired or sick..... Theres no sense in loading your face with makeup to try and be prettier. Beauty shouldnt rely on colored on features.

    Where I'm from in the UK there's a phase called 'Dick lip Orange'. I wish it didn't exist. In the sense that beauty is some one else's perception and not a product you buy. In my mind the only thing that's less attractive than a woman who feels to constantly wear make up is some one that's unfaithful. I wish every one had a better sense of self worth (Myself included) but its hard to see people becoming more confident in a world that persistently breaks them down to make financial profit.

    • @aubryandnic
      @aubryandnic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that is so true. There's definitely a double standard and no matter if you wear makeup or you don't wear makeup, a lot of times, it feels like we women get judged for it. That's why I believe it's so important for us to really check ourselves and make sure we're wearing makeup because it ACTUALLY deeply helps our self confidence (usually in terms of self expression). If it doesn't, then we should be free from that! Thank you so much for your comment!
