I am wondering whether these tips are more applicable to fields of experimental research (because you refer to labs), but some general advices I think are also helpful for other research groups (without real labs), with the difference that you don't depend so much on financial resources to buy equipments, materials and so on.

Hope I get the position and apply what I learned from you, as I have just finished PhD and will start as a lecturer with research work as well. I was thinking to start my own research group.
