A lesson for manufacturers of ALL products. New does not, repeat, does not mean better and improved. In most cases it means cheaper and more expensive. For example I bought a set of Maytag washers and dryers in 1976. They ran and ran and ran and gave the washer to my son around the year 2000 and it ran and ran and ran. Do you know why he had to replace it? The tub finally rusted. It still ran like a champ but the rusted through tub leaked water. It never had a repair. I still use the dryer and the only repair ever was a replacement belt and a knob that finally cracked and I repaired with guerilla glue. The lesson, new and shiny is no indication of quality.

Tacoma used to be a small truck, now it’s considered a mid-size…hummmm . I’m average size 160 lbs 5’8” owner of a 2017 Tacoma and I have many disappointed issues…. a derated V6 over previous V6’s, poor performance sensor interface with transmission and poor towing capacity to name a few, BUT my biggest complaint is its over the hood visibility when performing on medium climbing trails especially with turns. When designers try to give a bigger truck look to appeal to Mr. Bigger truck -wantabie- buyer by puffing up the hood, grill and suspension but keeping the seat height the same WITHOUT increasing the ceiling height …. You get the picture…. not much over the hood and side mirrors at intersections!

I don’t hope Toyota makes the twin turbo v6 available in the Taco. They aren’t lasting 10k miles in the Toyo and Lexus models they’re in. Toyota should work on improving mpg of their tried and true hybrid v6 to meet the necessary manufacturer guidelines. The 4 bangers literally do bang - I bought one - and while at least it won’t crap out on me requiring full engine replacement I have to keep it in eco mode to control the massive amount of noise intrusion into the cabin. Literally sounds like a push lawn mower and shudders when accelerating especially when not from a full stop for some reason.

How about a plugin hybrid version?
Camry hybrid drive train on the front axle (200 hp).
And a 200 to 500 hp electric machine on the rear axle.
And enough battery for 40 to 50 miles of light duty commuting.
And a battery buffer control. Dial in 20 percent for light duty EV operation.
Dial in 80 percent for macho hybrid towing (or showing off) duty.
Chevy could have done this 6 years ago with the Volt system.
    They dropped the ball (again)

Get a bigger engine and get better gas mileage? I can't seriously take this channel's analysis of anything after that classic no way to win, ex wife style complaint. You should learn about the Ford Maverick. Its Ford's hottest truck and is a big reason Taco's are sitting in dealer lots. They have more interior room, bigger payload, way better gas mileage and they ride like a car. Oh and they're 15 to 20 thousand dollars less money.

The tacoma is now as ugly as the tundra and that's saying something . The new tundra has had problem after problem. The center arm rest looks like a toilet seat for a reason I guess. The tacoma has carried on the weird design of the tundra and the prices of both are higher than ford and chevy with less standard equipment. The tacoma I have now is no where close to the quality of my last ranger. I'm going to get a new truck next yr and it will be the 2.7 ranger. My work truck has the 2.7 in it and over 200,000 miles of care free driving. I changed the oil every 3000 miles no matter the brand. Cheap insurance on a large investment.

I agree the new Gen feels more refined, more comfortable and just new. I wouldn’t buy one over the old generation even if the pricing was similar to the old Gen MSRP. If you intend to keep the truck like most Taco owners do this is not the truck for you anymore. Much like the new Tundra those turbos are going to cost you sooner or later but they will cost big $ when they do fail. Soon they will add hybrid and that’s a whole other list of long term nightmares to come for long term owners and resale value will suffer. Who would be comfortable paying high resale values Taco’s have been famous for when you will have turbos and hybrids to worry about in 5-8 years.
