I think we can all agree to the terms having been laid down, and subsequently being violated. The terms: - made reservations at new restaurant at 7pm, 1 hour timeslot, don't be late - response: I'll be there at 6.45pm, not a problem - guy waited until 7.15, half hour after agreed upon time before leaving - girl arrived 7.30pm, half hour into the alotted timeslot Assuming they would've gone through with it, by the time they sat down and decided what to eat, the waiters would tell them there's not enough time to prepare the food before their slot ended. Guy was completely within his right to move on. Girl was completely at fault. No grey arreas here.

It's very likely the guy spent a lot of money on the reservation and won't get refunded. Even smaller restaurants on busy days, if you arrive for a drink or something to eat and there were reservations, they look at what you want and how long it'll take to prepare and eat, or they straight up tell you it won't work due to reservations.

Seems a bit much. Late is not okay, and quite disrespectful, but things can happen on either side warranting a rescheduling of a date. As long as the person communicates ahead of time, that’s called being mature and considerate. I’d definitely move on if it happens again though.

I've, sadly, have had a lot of 'first dates'. When I first started out, I would wait for the lady... and even had one stall me for over two hours! I was an idiot looking for love then. Now, for a first date, I show up about 5 minutes early. If she's not there by 15 minutes after the stated time, I go to my backup plan. Either A, I go ahead and eat there. Or B, I go elsewhere and do something else. My last text would be, "It is obvious you don't respect my time. I'm canceling the date, I've got other things that have become more important. I operate the same way college classes work. If you aren't there within 15 minutes, the date is canceled. There is, of course, consideration for factors outside of a person's control such as unusually high traffic, metro issues, or severe weather.

There was a very popular Mexican restaurant in my home town in Texas. They had number limits on how many people could reserve seats on any given day. While time wasn’t limited people began to get angry as especially wealthy people took 2-3 hours while most took 45min- 1 hour and 15 min. They then stopped taking reservations and did a first come first serve basis. People still got mad because people would take longer with their meals. Eventually, they opened a pickup service where you could order over the phone or online. They not only made a crap ton of money, they eased people’s anger, and could take reservations again.

I have an uncle who did this to his own daughter, who he hasn't seen in a year, the reunion was in my mom's house, it started at 1:45 PM, he (her father) wrote at 5 PM "I'm showering to go there", she and her boyfriend left by 6:35 PM and he still wasn't here. He did this, to her own damm kid. And I have a friend like that, he is a nice guy, but we stop taking that BS from him, we give him extra 10 minutes at best, if he ain't at the place we move on.

My mom is constantly late, too. We're supposed to be at my sisters by seven for Thanksgiving, and it's a 20 minute drive, so I want to leave no later than 6:30, to allow for traffic and whatever, but Mom is only ready to get INTO the car at 7:05. It's like that is a general rule with her!

Last time a woman pulled this on me, I was in the Navy. Meet up scheduled. I show up, on time of course. She does not show. She waits until the next night to explain. Hard pass. I learned early on, my time is too expensive to be wasted.

I once told female relation who is always late to everything, including her own wedding reception. She pulled into a event late as usual, making everybody else late, waiting for her and she tried the "I'm hereee, fashionably late!" I blurted out, "No, not fashionably late, there is no such thing, there is disrespectfully late, discourteously late, disdainfully late or even lack of planning or caring late, but fashionably late? Nope, it's not fashionable to make others wait because could care less about their wasted time and effort, over your attention seeking and personal comfort." Some of the other attending gasped, others nodded in agreement but for her protest, not a one came to her defense, they were tired of it too.
The best way to cure others of not respecting your time and energy, is to carry on what you are doing without a further 2 shits what they think. He did well. Why should her BS drag his evening? I've, sadly, have had a lot of 'first dates'. When I first started out, I would wait for the lady... and even had one stall me for over two hours! I was an idiot looking for love then. Now, for a first date, I show up about 5 minutes early. If she's not there by 15 minutes after the stated time, I go to my backup plan. Either A, I go ahead and eat there. Or B, I go elsewhere and do something else. My last text would be, "It is obvious you don't respect my time. I'm canceling the date, I've got other things that have become more important. I wish you the best."

I operate the same way college classes work. If you aren't there within 15 minutes, the date is canceled. There is, of course, consideration for factors outside of a person's control such as unusually high traffic, metro issues, or severe weather.

There was a very popular Mexican restaurant in my home town in Texas. They had number limits on how many people could reserve seats on any given day. While time wasn’t limited people began to get angry as especially wealthy people took 2-3 hours while most took 45min- 1 hour and 15 min. They then stopped taking reservations and did a first come first serve basis. People still got mad because people would take longer with their meals. Eventually, they opened a pickup service where you could order over the phone or online. They not only made a crap ton of money, they eased people’s anger, and could take reservations again.

My mom's was late to EVERYTHING. Growing up, back before I got my license, it got to the point I would tell her I had to be places 30-45 minutes before I really needed to be there in order to compensate.

I have an uncle who did this to his own daughter, who he hasn't seen in a year, the reunion was in my mom's house, it started at 1:45 PM, he (her father) wrote at 5 PM "I'm showering to go there", she and her boyfriend left by 6:35 PM and he still wasn't here. He did this, to her own damm kid.
And I have a friend like that, he is a nice guy, but we stop taking that BS from him, we give him extra 10 minutes at best, if he ain't at the place we move on.

I did this once .. was to a 5 star restaurant that I was excites for.. said unless BOTH PARTIES ARE HERE I will lose the reservation. I ASKED HER A WEEK LEADING UP TO IT PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE..
