The squeaking sound as you set down the pretty green pumpkin down made my smile. What a great sound :) Amazing harvest. So fun to watch you gather them all together.

We planted two spaghetti squash plants in our hugelculture raised bed, and they went insane. We've harvested well over twenty off of each plant, and there are still more out there. If I've counted correctly, we've brought in 51 so far.

I don't think you will be the only one who will be impressed with the squash when the rest of the family see them. It must give you a great sense of achievement to know how much all your hard work has paid of for you. Even im impressed and ive no idea what it tastes like. You have done fantastic this year im so happy for you. Jean Scotland.

You can pick some of your straw flowers and statice and decorate tiny pumpkins with them. Simply glue them on. Beautiful and long lasting decoration. Your kids can also decoupage some with pretty floral napkins. Great indoor activity:))

We usually ripen our tomatoes in the garage or pump house. We yank the plants, roots and all, knock off most of the soil, toss the root ends into wheelbarrows, wagons, or boxes, and put them indoors. We could heat the buildings, but they're well insulated so we haven't needed to so far.

I am also in zone 3b here in Minnesota. My peppers didn't produce well because we had too much rain in June and July and unusually cool weather. The zucchini did well and the eggplant were very prolific. I wish I had more room. I love squash but didn't plant any this year as I had a knee replacement surgery. On aug 20th. I love your harvest videos.

What a lovely squash harvest. Have you tried growing Tromboncino and HoneyNut butternut squash. They are two of our favorites to grow and the are very prolific. The honeynuts are single serve size or maybe two people but they are so sweet and delicious. The Tromboncino are very long with a bulbous bottom that has all the seeds. The tromboncino's store for well over a year. They taste like Zucchini. We grow our Tromboncino's on a trellis so they hang down and this year we have many that are well over 5 foot long. They also make great feed for our chickens and ducks. The Honeynut's don't store for more than say 6 month's but they are absolutely delicious.

Green Hubbard was a staple growing up here in South Africa. My momma was a master at stretching her budget and she used to scrub the Hubbard skin really well with a kitchen scrubbrush then peel it. She put the pumpkin up , cubed in the freezer and that night we had Hubbard peels cooked like greenbeans with potatoes. Cooked till soft with onions, garlic , potato and normal greenbean spices and of course black pepper, till soft then roughly mashed. It eventually became more popular with us kids than the pumpkin itself. Green Hubbard skin with its nutty flavour cut smaller pieces and cooked in pressure canner in chicken stock is gorgeous.

I just realized when you panned the squash patch that it is in the shelter of the out buildings - I'll bet they helped keep it warmer and/or caused cold air currents to go over the patch thus preventing it from freezing the first time. Fantastic harvest. Hoping to do mine tomorrow - there is a couple hubbard in mine so that I can try. I agree with you on burgess butter cup as mine only keep till January ish - but I love them. Good video! There is something so nice about a harvest like you got!

I live a few 100 miles south and a little west in the Puget sound area of Washington, the maritime Pac NW. Our heat days and rain levels are similar during the summer as little Mountain Ranch even though we are zone 7b/8a and have over 210 frost free day.
I start all heat loving plants indoors that have more than 70 days to harvest listed (unless a pac NW landrace). Additionally, I'll direct sow heat loving things up to 95 days to harvest listed hoping for a warm spring.

I wonder if the pumpkins and squash got less frost damage because of being near the high tunnel? Like it heats up the earth around it as well so it was warmer on that side of the garden. It could also be because it would block the wind blowing up off the bottom of the valley. I could be absolutely wrong on those ideas
