I remember Steve allegedly chasing us all through TX, AZ, and NM, with his unknown broken car. Hearing his drop out was awful but then coming back and finishing. Incredible
Saturns are terrible cars, but they last a long time. I had the same model in a wagon with a 5spd that I used as a courier vehicle. It had 250k miles on it when I sold it when it was 9 years old. In December 04, we got hit by a huge snowstorm, and I was doing lost luggage deliveries for the airport. I took the deliveries that were well outside the city because I knew what was going to happen to traffic in the city. That little car got me home, bombing down unplowed back roads that had 10 to 12 inches of snow covering them. Out of the 6 drivers that left the airport that day, I was the only one who got all their deliveries done.
I worked at a Saturn dealership during high school and saw many new cars, ragged out, with less than 20k miles. Rough, buzzy, rattle-y, and loose. Occasionally, one with 150k miles would come in and it would drive like new, solid as a rock. It was the weirdest thing.
How awesome, someone finally mentioned Darien, CT in something! Since we didn't have a hospital, I was born in Greenwich Hospital but I spent my early childhood there. Amazing to hear that this car event happened there. Makes me proud! Thanks for a great story. "Smelled like weed and bad decisions." That's an epic line if I've ever heard one!
Great to see you honoring the car’s Genius. To the Romans, a Genius was the spirit that lived in certain places (e.g. sacred grove) or things (e.g. a sword). So you honored the Genius of the little Saturn and I think that was a great thing for you to do.
A friend had one of those 'Rat'-urns(as he called it)....it was beat....it was ugly....it sucked....but it RAN. and RAN........and ran. No idea of how many miles on it because the speedo had long ago died of something or other....but it ran on... Somewhere along the way, it began consuming/leaking oil and he put a quart or 2 of 10w40 in it once a week and it was good to go......he went out of town for work and his new GF didnt follow his instructions to come see me on Fridays so I could put the oil in it and.....yeah....it finally died due to stupid GF. When he got back after a month or so, we drove it, motor making all sorts of bad noises and about 15hp way out into the woods until it just stopped.... where it has served as a target for all manner of high velocity small metal objects ever since......its still there AFAIK.....
I don't know what it is but every person in my life that I know is hard on cars is a woman. Some dudes are bad for sure (my own dad is bad about taking care of cars) but women take it to another level. My sister can take a perfectly good car, nothing wrong with it at all and absolutely destroy it in 6 months. Ripped interiors, busted transmissions, you name it.
My family has one. I'm normally a pretty slow driver but there's something about Big Altima Energy that makes me want to zoom through traffic in that car. I had to drive it for a couple weeks when my last car crapped out and my new one was on the way. 175k miles and it's still barely holding together on the original CVT. It rattles and shakes but it's comfortable and spacious, I'll give it that. We had to replace both headlights because the coating on the inside of the low beam projectors burned off from the heat of the standard-wattage halogen bulbs after only a few years. That's why you always see Altima drivers driving with their high beams on, the low beams light up but don't project.
These cars are fun to drive. There is actuality a reliable way to get these car over 100 mph . First you need the 5 speed Manuel then swap 5th gear from a sohc 1.9 in to the mp2 transmission then get your self a saturn sc ecm. They are govern to 130 mph.
They were always supposed to be drab disposable appliances. Saturn was started by GM as a no haggle brand to compete with the influx of Japanese cars. This was the era of early Japanese Honda’s and Toyotas from the 1990’s that are probably still on the road today.
My 2008 Saturn Aura has 294000 miles on the odometer and it recently had the "under the hood" wiring harness go bad. That's the first thing I've replaced besides batteries and tires, and fluids ofc, which is pretty impressive. Truly "a different kind of car company, a different kind of car"
Saturns engines were bullet proof. I remember my college friend had a Saturn sedan. He would junp it over the railroad tracks it would bottom out and keep on going?
Wow! Very nice! My heavily modified SC2 made 220hp at the tire. I still need to send my broken timing cover to Ed... He should have stuck a SC2 PCM in the car to raise the speed limiter to 124mph instead of 108mph.
Yeah, I totally get it. I still miss my Saturn SL. Made the mistake of trading it for an ION. That ION died when the driver's window exploded on me one day and we had a disagreement with a minivan.
More of a reason for you guys to do a video on that Saturn girl that had a huuuuge collection on them !!!! Look up saving Saturn through Hagerty would love to see a video on it !!! 🤘😝🤘
Of all the old beaters I see broke down on the road, it's hardly ever a Saturn. I see a lot of broke down older SUVs and Trucks that have obviously been through the ringer and plenty of other older cars.
This man is a great story teller. More from him in the future!

I remember seeing Steve’s dot start tracking back West at speed. Such and amazing and exciting surprise!
The little Saturn had her Free Bird moment.
Fly litle Saturn, Fly!

Lol nope
One lie or the other

They’re tough and reliable little fuckers
My first car was a 1998 Saturn SC1. Poor thing was on its last legs and it refused to die.

Love these cannonball stories
Glad somebody gave GMs import competition the credit it deserved!

The little Saturn that could deserved the win.

Great job and congratulations on finishing the run.
Intro definitely hooked me
Loved the lil Saturn story. I really enjoyed the story. Hope to see more from him.
Great video and an even better title, i laughed out loud imagining ed saying big Altima energy
Cannonball stories get the day going!! Thanks everyone
Great story, well told.
Sharing the Saturn love! They do wonders sometimes.
Ed the ticket clinic works wonders thank brother man and happy new year
Any Altima drivers here in the comments?
Used to have an Altima but I don’t smoke and only have use of one leg so I don’t run either 😂

The dyno was an alignment machine hahaa

Great story !

I've never really heard anything bad about Saturn's. Always heard that they were just a good dependable car

Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t kill the engine!
Thisbis an awesome story

well... if he wasn't driving so fast around a gas station it woulda made it the whole way 🤣
Yeah, he should have stopped and just put it in reverse and none of that would have happened.
I’ve always wondered if those closely set Saturn headlights caused accidents because they look further away than they really are.
Yeah, I totally get it. I still miss my Saturn SL. Made the mistake of trading it for an ION. That ION died when the driver's window exploded on me one day and we had a disagreement with a minivan.
Go West, li'l Saturn!

🤘😝🤘
She is awesome! I started following her when I bought the car!
will a ticket clinic ever open in texas?
Me and my girlfriend have talked about cannonballing one day but we can never find info so do I need to contact Ed for info?
Just cut the dang sway bar off
Strapped to a dyno and shows pic of it on a alignment rack.
Good one
Like I needed another reason to look for cars on FB Marketplace...
Saturn life 💪
How’d Aidan get to school while you had the Altima?
That saturn is 124hp stock though... You cheated
The really funny part is when I hear Saturn I damn sure do not think about reliability.
Of all the old beaters I see broke down on the road, it's hardly ever a Saturn. I see a lot of broke down older SUVs and Trucks that have obviously been through the ringer and plenty of other older cars.
I’m so glad altimas are being discontinued this year, what a piece of shit
