I came into this knowing little bits here and there and seeing the length of the video I was like nahh I ain't watching all this, turns out, you make it so interesting im 25+ mins in and I learn so much more and didn't even realize the time! You are a GODSEND

Finally someone who explained it well. I just got Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and I'm trying to learn everything about IFR flying so I can input the flight plan myself. This is really helpful.
He did justice to the topic, and it literally demystified the whole thing ⚡. I got MSFS too, but the rate at which updates are turning up, continuity (in learning, that is) is a bit arduous. I have watched this video a couple of times, and I am trying to replicate the flight on my FSX:SE. I am going for the Airbus 320/321 though ( I saw an A319 flight on Flightaware). I could not find the follow up video for this tutorial, but found another one for Xplane 11 ( KSJC - KPDX ) . Zeewala made it in 2017, and the principles are the same.

Sir, I will be watching this tutorial more than once. I was afraid to even get into this as I am learning X-Plane navigation. I will not be flying an airliner aircraft until I learn IFR SIDs and STARRs. You did an excellent job explaining everything and made it super simple. I was a student pilot years ago so I have some experience flying small planes but I really want to simulate how the real airline pilots do it following procedures. Retired and really enjoying flying again albeit simulation. With todays technology it is as close to the real thing as it gets without killing yourself in the process. Great explanation! I have a PPL but I’m not IFR rated, but your explanation has been the best I’ve seen. Even the “instructor guys” didn’t make clear the concept of “transitions’ and following the waypoints and the nav aids in sequence.
Hi Maurell - I don't have my PPL, but I do have some hours under my belt. The main reason I was turned off was because of the fact that my instructor was not clear in his instruction. I am excited to make the return once our world returns to some sort of normality. Your instructor is the key to success and this comment means the world to me. Thank you.

I have looked at so many online videos for sids, stars and mapping out flight plans but Zeewala is the best of all. Hands down. Super simple explanation that anyone can understand. You are amazing at teaching. Thank you so much.
Best explanation ever. I have been searching for this full explanation forever. Everytime I searched I would get this " atc will give you yout sid and star. you can't plan it" problem being is in simulation you don't truly have atc unless you get into other programs. thi not only shows me how to plan for it but also what to expect Great work!

I started playing new Microsoft flight simulator and its a big help understanding how SID and stars works, before it was confusing how pilots get routes, know what altitude, speed they have to maintain, but now i can see everything they input into mcdu or fmc, is based on charts, thank you for this tutorial.

This is by far the best explanation of SIDs and STARS. Also great introduction to FlightAware and SkyVector.
Reason I needed this information is I am new ro Flybywire A320 using SimBrief flightplan loaded through the MCDU. This requires knowledge of SIDs and STARs unlike when you do the flightplanning in the simulator.

You should team up with an experienced flight simmer and make a whole video series for beginners like this. There are a lot of flight simmers out there but hardly any who KNOW and UNDERSTAND how and what beginners need to learn. I would buy the course from you for sure.

I am using FlightAware in 2022. This video is six years old. It is still very useful tutorial. Southwest doesn't fly B733's anymore that I can tell. I'll just use one of their B737's.

I've been watching other videos and it was kind of hard to understand the navigation system how to make plans and every time i wach some video and try to punch in what I've learned from others it would just nose dive into blah, but you explained it very well, have to say end result was very pleasing

Yes it's a lot of info but it also takes a lot of the mystery out of aviation and what's on those displays in the cockpit (I'm learning this stuff for XPlane 11)
