I think many in my generation first heard of Richard Goodwin because he was the main character (and I think wrote the book the film was based on) in an award-nominated film called Quiz Show. That came out in 1994, and I can’t believe it’s been 30 years already. Anyways, it’s based on the first scandal in US television - in the 1950s, a popular game show got caught giving the right answers to the contestants they wanted to see win. Even in 1994, this was a quaint notion of an innocent time. But, it was released soon after OJ Simpson was arrested. With both Simpson’s passing and now this book about Goodwin, one’s further reminded of how far (and some would say how low) our popular culture has become.

Agreed. Here we are accepting a proven plagiarist as a revered historian. Doris's "history" as an historian is about as low as you can go. Kicked off the Pulitzer Prize board for stealing huge chunks of other authors' work, including that of Rose Kennedy, JFK's mother. Another author sued her and she settled out of court. Yet here we are, lapping up "her" words and helping her flog a book. The Trump years have certainly normalized the concept of bad character, a trait which used to be scorned.

I was a child in the '60s, but I do remember many of the things that happened in that decade. LBJ was so unlikely as the hero in both the Civil Rights and Voting Rights acts, it made them possible. Along with his ability to reach across the aisle and twist arms, when needed. It's a shame that his legacy is tarnished by the war in Vietnam. Kennedy spoke of a better future, but Johnson made it happen.

Okay, the visual was more than I wanted for a morning history lesson. LBJ was uniquely brave fighter for equally. The sixties and seventies were rough but the differences made during his presidency were remarkable.
The Goodman’s were a perfect pairing with the Johnson and Kennedy administrations.,

The 1960's were great - a continuation of the Fabulous Fifties - until Kenedy got shot! I was 15. Then the turbulent Vietnam War and the MLK Jr. and Bobby Kennedy assassinations!

Is this her writing or someone else's? You never know with Doris. She was kicked off the Pulitzer Prize board for plagiarizing the work of at least three other authors including Rose Kennedy. She settled out of court with another. So I'll wait for authentication before I rush out and buy the book which she may or may not have written. How soon we forget.

I wonder what he would say about our dear Dorris stealing huge chunks of his mother Rose Kennedy's work? And of two other authors? She was kicked off the Pulitzer Prize board for plagiarizing the work of three authors, and settled out of court with one of them. Character no longer matters, apparently. I suppose we can thank Trump for that. Bad/no character seems to have become the norm and doesn't matter anymore.
