- In this new year special I interview Mel Croucher.
We discuss his life and contributions from setting up the first UK computer entertainment company in 1977, through Automata, ZX Microfairs and Deus-Ex-Machina. Finishing with a chat about who really created the internet.

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting this. Thanks Paul.
phenomenal piece of journalism! thank you.
Brilliant episode.
Superb!! Thank you.
I could listen to Mel all day. A national treasure.
Lovely stuff!
A most interesting conversation, thank-you so much.
Listening to the old Automata track "Bankrupt Stock" ended up being a New Years Eve tradition for me every year since 1984. There is also considerable toasting involved. Here's to absent friends [drink]. Seems to be more and more as the years go by.
I did call Mel's comedy phone line once! It was a time when I was calling all sorts of premium phone lines. My dad was furious when he got the phone bill at the end of the month. I seem to also remember Mel writing an article for Dragon magazine? It was something to do with Nikola Tesla and the Tunguska event (edit: I think it was an article about wireless energy transmission)
Such an amazing character and brilliant episode. Mels Autobiography if ever is written or exists would be utterly fascinating.
His book 'Deus Ex Machina: The best game you never played in your life' is worth a read!
What a fascinating interview, cheers Paul and Mel.
Fantastic, Mundaneum ordered!
I knew I'd heard about the Mundaneum before but I couldn't remember where. It was an old Tim Traveller video: th-cam.com/video/1sxUPxJsXZY/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, I was struggling to remember too.
ive always wanted to be in show biz ;)
Mel's idea...the one Netflix etc. weren't interested in...he should contact two Australian national broadcasters: ABC and SBS. I have no doubt he would generate some interest.
waggling your joystick. lol is that what you call it now hee hee😏
Brilliant interview, thank you Paul and Mel. Loved Mel's recollections.
