    To Everyone saying Serena would have won if she was younger, sorry but age factor is a part of any sport. Let's give Naomi the credit she deserves.

      I am not taking away from Osaka's win! however comparing what happened on the court is basically, more energy vs. less energy, which is a part of growing older in all sports.

    • @tatama5782
      @tatama5782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +376

      Not necessarily... a younger Serena would also be a less experienced one. You could also say an older more experienced Osaka would have won Serena decisively every time.

      Absolutely, but Osaka beating Serena at this age means we can't really compare them at all. We can't bring back say, a 2015 Serena to play Osaka whenever she reaches her prime, so we would never know the real outcome if they both played at 100%.

    I only played tennis in high school, so maybe I can't say anything here. But this kinda looks similar to how boxers don't always throw their hardest jabs or full momentum jab until they know 95% they can land that solid hit. Because if it hits air, it's just too much expended energy and stamina.
    It looks like Serena has a lot of strength behind her shots, and it seems that usually that works for her. But Osaka capitalizes on the energy that Serena expends. If Serena can't win in a couple of hits, she just becomes too tired to run around the court, while Osaka looks like she's just redirecting what's being thrown at her.

    • @ibidapoaina2459
      @ibidapoaina2459 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      True but Serena also used to have a lot of speed and stamina. That has changed. She was one step short all game.

      A young Serena could have returned some of Osaka's winners and put herself in position to hit better angles. Her lack of stamina in her old age and from motherhood forces her to hit as hard as she can and hope to end points early. If she tried to hit softer balls to conserve energy, she still would have lost because Osaka would have just dragged the points as long as necessary.

    For me, neither player were at their best this match, but how Naomi upped her level in the last 2 games of the match shows how mentally tough she is. She did what Serena did to so many opponents throughout her career, and has really grown into one of the most mentally tough players on the tour. She really is becoming the next great player and has grown so much throughout the years to become the player she is now.
    Serena Williams, it’s unfortunate we didn’t see her best here but what she has achieved in these two weeks is still incredible at this stage of her career. To beat Sabalenka in the 4th round and play such a high quality match against Halep shows she still can play amazing tennis. What she has achieved, and still is achieving is incredible and is certainly so amazing to see her do so well in this time of her career.
    Really wish the best for Naomi and Serena in the 2021 season.

  • @sano1062
    @sano1062 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Believe or not I think that Serena is a litle intimadated by Osaka! Naomi doesn`t fear her serve like other players and tends to stand in even on the first serve. Plus Osaka can onload the heat whenever she`s in trouble. They have played four matches and none has gone the distance plus Serena has won two sets! That`s it two sets in four matches. Osaka is too much at ease playing against Serena.

    Tennis is like a game of chess. You figure out lines of attacks -- common moves, instant responses. The difference between Henin and Clijsters who have achieved a lot in figuring that part of tennis out against the two top contenders, Venus and Serena, versus Naomi is that Naomi can execute with regularity AND power. Unreal. It is like BLITZ with Naomi. That is why slower players cause her so much trouble. She is playing BLITZ against a 10 minute game player like Hsieh. But even there in this tournament, she has figured it all out.

      I would not say that. Serena was a dominant player for at least 15 years. When Naomi has won 23 grand slams, then we can talk about that.
      As always the issue imo with Serena is the possible steroid use. She suddenly looked way more muscular after a couple of years on tour, shades of Mark Mcguire and the steroid era of baseball. As usual you cannot say that the governing body on drug testing can be trusted, the history of these organizations in other sports is one of rampant corruption.

    I get that serena is super passionate... but when you lose your composure like that, it kind of gives your competitor the advantage. they know you're in their head. i remember playing baseball in high school, our coach would always tell us "you get struck out, don't react. don't even look at the pitcher. just walk back to the dugout like he's never going to get another chance to shut you down."

    Do not tell this woman to retire true fans give her support. She has had her chances to make history. She has been so close to 24 grand slams so many times. It is mental thing right now. She just has to think about winning each point instead of thinking about breaking records and being the goat. She can win more grand slams, it won't be easy but she can still do it.

    To all the people making these weird assumptions.
    Clearly Serena was NOT playing her very best.
    That’s flat out clear.
    Serena is much older & has literally won EVERY SINGLE CHAMPIONSHIP there can be won in Tennis… Something Osaka has not done at all.
    Osaka also is YOUNGER and literally training to be the best.
    Why is it surprising that an older Serena whom is NOT training hard and whom has talked about retirement would be losing to Osaka whom has looked up to her and wanted to be the best and is training to be the best.

    I think she's still an excellent player so she should play until she can't play anymore and that would be a proper legacy!! If she retires because she lost to Naomi, it would always be on record that she retired because she lost to Naomi. And therefore all the other Tennis players who lose to Naomi should also retire!!!! (The Whole of The WTA Female Players!!!!)
    As I said earlier, this is not Serena's best form. She has the body and physique to beat everyone including Naomi but it wasn't Serena's day. She is getting fitter after having her daughter. She can still improve her strength and movement to be even better than the 'Old Serena'.
    When Serena lost to Halep at Wimbledon, it was a 'Beating' and people thought that was the end of Serena but look what she did to Halep at the Aussie Open!! Serena is not finished; she's too strong to stop playing. She really is the best in History and she's still improving after becoming a Mother. Watch This Space; its NOT done yet!!!! You'd be surprised next time!!!

In as much as I love Naomi she has only made a dent at 2 of the 4 majors. I have thought all along that Serena's best chance to get #24 was at Wimbledon.
