The song is about a homeless vet that used to hang around outside their practice space; Eddie Vedder used to buy him sandwiches. When they came back from a European tour, he found out that the man had passed. Not a cheery topic, but meaningful, nonetheless
Just for those who are curious, the video is a compilation of clips of them performing this song. They famously hate creating videos for their songs. Vedder says it steals imagination from the audience. It's like being shown an oil painting and being given an instruction manual to understand it. People also seem to forget just how meteoric their rise was. They formed in 1990, played their first gig together in October that year and two months later they were opening for Alice In Chains and going on tour with them. Eight months later they released Ten and started touring on their own. When they hit Europe and saw thousands of people there to watch them play they knew they had something big.
I’m a little too young to have been heavy into grunge but I am old enough to have had Walkman and wore out about three copies of Pearl Jam’s Ten album. “Black” was my favorite song but it was an awesome album. Even if I was listening to it several years after it came out. Lol
@@e-reptiledysfunction2243 What?? How??? I love PJ, I loooove Black the album version was my first but ooooohhhhh man, the emotion in the live version!!! 'We belong together!' I suppose maybe your romantic situations at the time might factor in.
A few other concert clips mixed in Common in “Official Videos” that are “Live” Insane his trust in so many all the time It was his thing and he’s highly respected & adored
U guys should react to more groups like pearl jam, Audioslave, alice in chains, etc... would like to know which group u like most once u have heard multiple songs by each group
@@Lightningrod75 I'm always asking for more Audioslave, I got them to check out like a stone (Dave and Daz were already familiar with it but Mike had never heard it)... loads of good songs by Audioslave, hope they check out more at some point
If u haven't done black by pearl jam u should definitely check it out! Dont do the mtv unplugged version, lot of ppl will tell u its better but lot of ppl r full of 💩
I had to look up what you were talking about with EV doing Elton cover high. You're reaching for that conclusion. The man did have some hand tremors but that doesn't mean he was on drugs. His speech wasn't slurred nor was he forgetting or repeating lyrics. You can't observe one characteristic of someone, one time, and say he's under the influence. That coupled with the fact that he's literally known for not doing drugs, tells me maybe you're a hater. Maybe you're upset your cover of Even Flow didn't go to well and you just want to put ppl down for no reason?

I was quite young when this came out, but this was often played around the house. I still have the original tape somewhere.
@@kn-zv7uc I eventually bought the CD because the tapes got so warped from me playing “Black” over and over. Lol
My favorite band. Black unplugged would be a good one to react to
“Black” is my favorite Pearl Jam song. They are so good.
Black is my favorite pearl jam song as well but I don't like the mtv unplugged version... its not bad but its not as good as the original imo

I’ve listen to both versions and I like both. I wonder what they would think about “Yellow Ledbetter” 😂
"Hes shaggin the venue" lolololo
Evenflo is a toddler/baby car seat manufacturer.
To this day, can’t strap a nephew or niece into their chair without beltin’ “ EVENFLOOOOO!” 🤪🤘✌️
I laffed far too hard at this image. :)
Shirt/shirtless video is put together from multiple live shows. Nothing weird, it's pretty common.
Thoughts arrive like butterflies
Thoughts not thots?
Bummer.
Jk

Mike is more my age, and I can see him grooving out to this song in the background like I am doing....
Please react to Pearl Jam - Black live mtv unplugged!!!! One of the best live performances ever
Another Seattle Band !!!
I popped a with you. Cheers!
I always thought “Evenflow” sounded like a brand of drain cleaner
If u haven't done black by pearl jam u should definitely check it out! Dont do the mtv unplugged version, lot of ppl will tell u its better but lot of ppl r full of 💩
lol i think eddie climbing the set and stuff is just method acting
I think Eddie Vedder would shudder hearing Elton John play acoustic guitar so they're pretty much even.
Dave drums enough said
these old dudes know evenflow, come on
How are they all
Old ??

You should react to System of a Down - Chop Suey.

Rockers wear leather jackets, not flannel shirts
