Wellllll. I tried using it today on 2 brand new Duke traps. You make it look easy. I could not squeeze the springs . Maybe its because they are new???? Its not that i a weak but it is not working for me. Any suggestions??? Should i set the springs so they loosen up. I can set them with the old school lever style.

I'm sold on it. A friend of mine was up in Embarrass MN for a trapping convention and told me about it. I actually was there but didn't pay attention because of the gun show they had there. Now I have to pay shipping
This is a good question. I guess there's really only one way to do it (get the tool threaded through the eyes, probably by hand as opposed to just dropping it through) and hopefully your dog is cooperative and not flailing around. I've heard that some hunters will toss their jacket over the dog's head to keep them from panic biting, but beyond that I'm not sure exactly how it would be done.
Excellent. I have had a 330 on my hand, and I was a long walk from my 4-wheeler. I had to wade, slog, etc. all the way back to the 4-wheeler and get my T-handled setter. I had to stand on one foot, pull the spring up, and use my other toe to flip the safety catch over the spring. Guess how fun that was? Not very. All serious beaver trappers should buy your product. Period.
Hello Ron, I just ordered my setter but i have some brand new conibears that have especially strong springs and I still can't do it....any suggestions? Will the springs relax once I clean the oil off of them? Any suggestions for a girl who just isn't tough enough?? I can use it on my older conibear!
For anyone curious about this 9 years later, what they taught us in trapping school is quickly turn the trap so that its squeezing the sides of the dog instead of the throat this way it has a chance of breathing. Then i'd insert the tool from the rear of the dog towards the head and compress the springs. It sounds a lot easier than it will be but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Hope this helps.

Build a tool that goes in a truck or 4 Wheeler receiver hitch and uses a cordless impact too set the springs, works a lot better than any set tool and easier.
I have both of them and could not be happier.
Excellent idea Ron. Looks much more compact than the scissor type tongs. I may have go give it a try.

No sure if it is just duke 330s but I can never get this tool to go past the middle attachment point - it 100% of the time hangs up there.
Bevel the nubs at the rivit,both sides the the the loop will transition over the cross easily!!

It's okay if you've got a lot of upper body arm and back strength...but for those of us who don't, this won't work.
