@@Mr-Shiny-Shots Hey buddy - that's great. Drop me a message on Trading Paints and we can discuss what you're looking for - www.tradingpaints.com/profile/627097/Ben-R-Harrison
Dude I seriously needed a tutorial like this I’m trying to get into painting and I’m surprised I didn’t find this before. I’m gonna have to download the older version of Gimp but I might try with the new one provided this tutorial still applies for the newest version
Cheers David mate - I find it properly relaxing, especially when too knackered for a race but with some time free of an evening! Let me know how you get on 👍
wanted to tell you great job! Thanks, im curious though when you do this how come your *the person making the livery designs, is the only person whom can see it? All the other racers still see the old truck design. Thanks again
Hi La Broca!! I tried to find your twitter account but it never popped up. Would love to have another way to talk with you about getting a custom livery designed that I could use on all cars if possible.
Oh hey man! Sorry yeah I got rid of my Twitter after it began to get ever more toxic as a platform. You can join the La Broca discord if you like? discord.gg/YfNSVnpb
Are you able to make and upload schemes for someone without having an iRacing account? I don’t play iRacing but some of my friends said they’d like me to try designing a car them.
Hey buddy - you can but it’ll get tricky previewing the design in the game. But yes theoretically possible. To do it you need your friend to send you the psd file of the livery template. Then you can design on it, and send it back to your friend when done for them to run in the game.
Hey buddy - first step make sure you have the right layer selected in the layers tool bar. Second step go up to select in the top menu bar and hit none. Hopefully one of those two things work but let me know.
do you need to have to use iracing to view what you have done to see if it looks right? I know years ago when I did a paint you had to have iracing open and in order to see what you had done, jump over to iracing and regen or something.
Thanks Carlos! Im sure you can use gimp for ACC, but I’m not sure on the file structures and how to get them in game. No livery editing in RaceRoom I’m afraid!
Hi buddy - I’m sure it can but it’s probably not one for me given the car. You’ll definitely find someone who specialises in those on the iracing forums though. Or on trading paints.
Question, is it possible to use liveries from Trading Paints like this too? For example I'm into AI racing from time to time and it would be nice not to have the standard iRacing liveries. Thanks a lot for the video!
Hi Ben, I'm trying to do it. But the paint tools in GIMP are locked. I can't modify it. Perhaps, could you know why? Thank you in advance for any help.
Hey Carlos - sounds like you might not have the right layer selected perhaps? It’s tricky without seeing your screen, but check in the layer menu that you’ve selected the one you’re trying to paint / edit.
simple, great and direct to the point tutorial, thank you so much for this. i have just one question.. can this be done on the "procreate app" on ipad do you think ?
Why when I export it as a .tga does it not update and show my paint in the paint shop? I have to upload it, select race paint. Turn computer off and on, load up a session and then it updates
@@breambeau3354 hmmm that sounds strange! If the tga is being saved in the iracing paints documents folder it should just appear straight away. Worth an ask on the forums maybe?
@@Ben_LaBroca thank you so much for the quick reply. I was saving it into a folder within the paint folder. I have now saved it directly to paint folder and it updated right away, again thank you
OK I have no clue how you got the grid box, and the other color you changed. I have no clue how to find the labels or anything. I am 99% new to the PC stuff. I must have spent 45 min only to get a basic template on GIMP and do nothing else with it.
Hey Juan - great Q yeah. To be visible to everyone you'd need to upload it to Trading Paints. Then everyone else who uses that service (alot of users!) would see it. www.tradingpaints.com/showroom/filter/from=everyone,sort=popular,ad=DESC,pos=0
Hey buddy - thanks for getting in touch. Liveries cost £25 at the mo. If you drop me a message on trading paints I can tell you more about the process. www.tradingpaints.com/profile/627097/Ben-R-Harrison
Hey, I don't have an iracing membership but I made a livery for my friend who has iracing, in photoshop through his psd file. Should I save the psd as tga and what he should do with it?
Hey buddy - not sure I’ve had that before but one thing worth trying - make sure you hit the eye on the livery layers in the template, and highlight the one you want to edit by clicking it. You’ll need to deselect the “eye” of any above the one you’re editing in the list. The other thing to try is to make sure you haven’t got anything else highlighted, for example if you’ve created a custom shape etc. go to the top of screen menu and unselect whatever is selected. Let me know how you get on.
@@Ben_LaBroca when i load in the livery in photoshop i get a message : excessive number of xmp.photoshop.documentsAsncestors tags found : 10803. only keep the first 1000 values. dont know if that have something to do with it
Yea so I tried looking you up on twitter and I can’t find you mate. Well when I type in your name it just says something went wrong… can you make me a paint scheme and I’ll be happy to pay you lol
Unfortunately, after following the steps to download Gimp, it appears the the newest version simply doesn't allow for the same access to the file as the older one used in this video. For example there are only three layers to the template downloaded from iRacing. This doesn't allow for the wire frame to be selected and renders the process pretty useless. Nothing against the author here, but I should've known this wouldn't work.
Hey buddy - so you just need to click the plus sign next to each layer group (spec map, turn off before exporting and paintable area) and it’ll expand out with all of the layers you need.
For anyone thinking about contacting Ben about commissions, dont hesitate. He did a cracking job for me and turned it round really quickly
