What I'm seeing is best described as a "bus trying to look like a tram". Basically an over-engineered bus. I'm cautious about this ART but if any chance Perbadanan Putrajaya (the governing body of Putrajaya) can convert the ART roads into actual tram tracks. I've seen comments about how putting the ART on the roads will increase traffic but the opposite will happen otherwise. Unless of course the ART (or tram if demand arises) meets demand, people would stop driving their cars and traffic can decrease. It works like this: when you build more roads, it may decrease traffic at first, but overtime more cars will come in and the road is jammed again. Now put a dedicated lane there. It angers drivers at first but overtime people will take the bus/trolleybus/tram and therefore traffic will come down. It would also mean the roads will have lesser chances of being damaged by potholes (because cars cause greater wear-and-tear on roads). It is a no-brainer, removing lanes will decrease the number of drivers, and to a certain extent discourage driving in that area. This is the whole point of dedicated lanes - they discourage people from bringing their cars in that area. Now people are going to be angry about this - but the upsides include increased public transit usage, lesser noise and lesser maintenance on the roads! But to the drivers that still are unable to switch from cars, perhaps a Dutch-style traffic lighting system may work, where the lights will go green when the roads are clear enough to give them the go. Of course, trams, cyclists, buses and pedestrians are given more priorities than the car. Putrajaya should focus mobility based on the person, not the car. Cities around the world are now realizing all the downsides of a car-centric urban planning and are now on their way to make their cities more inviting and pleasing.
Yes France, belgium, and other nordic countries already had this long times ago in form of Van Hool Exquicity... Its basically a bi-articulated bus. Only this time ot features Autonomous driving. A vehicle with no rails is nevevr a train... It runs on tyres so definitely a bus. This ART or trackless terminology is just creating more confusion created by the manufacturer instead of city planners

Anything that is cost effective to improve the public service is a good initiative. The cost of ART is also lower than LRT. The only concern is the feasibility. Does putrajaya have the population to sustain it? What is the frequency during rush hours? Will it connect to cyberjaya too? If it all makes sense then it’s going to be great to have it! I hope all other cities will have it too
The race of ART, Putrajaya beat Kuching for what JB has rejected long time ago. At least in Kuching the tram will have separate lanes. 4 years of construction for 3 different routes. Very slow progress.
It’s not even a tram at all. Just a very large bus and the way it works it’ll just end up creating de facto rails in the form of indentations on the road surface
It may not be perfect for now, but we can see the improvements now, im currently staying in KL for couple days, all public transportation are now under construction for proper maintenance, including KL Sentral As what they announced in the ktm, the project took 6 years (2024 - 2029) hoping for the best for Malaysia Thank you for people who working on it.
I don't doubt the vehicle, I prefer this more than LRT, MRT, KTM, whatever we have nowadays. It's street leveled instead of a "station", you just hop in and out, it has the space of a train, it has more capacity per driver. In the end, it's the long walking distance to the stops, really long wait time interval at the stop and short routes will make it not an attractive choice.
I don't think this is too big of a deal. If it has the kind of "sensors" that they call invisible tracks, like the models in china, that's very bad for the road because the tires will be passing by the same spots over and over. If it doesn't, then it's just a bi-articulated bus which has existed for a while now in places like europe or south-america

ART works well, if there’s no traffic on the roads to begin with, just like Putrajaya and not the surrounding towns and the connecting roads and highways leading to it. 🤣 Best is always the underground metro. Solves construction problem upfront.
if the timing can be influenced by traffic it will need barricades! No one will use it if it will make them late for work. If it's not barricaded, then every local government will point to Putrajaya and say, "You see no one wants to ride a tram".
What is the frequency of service? If the waiting time is too long then it is not worth it. I prefer a tracked tram like the tried and proven ones in Europe.

Put grade separated ARTs on future KL BRT lines, putrajaya doesn't need heavy capacity mass transit, KL, penang and Johor is congested enough.

The funny thing is that the entire city is a ghost town. So the testing is already in an unusual environment. Low traffic and even lower foot traffic.
