I mean Yana Kudryatseva lost olympic gold for one club mistake and Mamuns succesful performances without mistakes. That was 2016. Alina Kabaeva won gold in Athen 2004 while dropping something in every routine and with Tchachina and Bessonova being flawless. Twenty years later I thought we'd be over that extra points for difficulty of the program at cost of the quality and expression of the execution. In Rio it worked and it seemed far less unfair than in Athen or in Valencia last year. I think Varfolomeev lacks something in every aspect where Raffaeli or Atamanov where slightly more secure and elegant. It does not mean Darya is not an outstanding athlete, she worked as hard as the others and as a german of course I have nothing against german gold in Paris (😉). But you are not the only one who has noticed some inaccuracies in the score rankings of the past two decades.
0:32 she usually does penche with ring balance (0.5) with rotations around axis DA (0.3) in combination here, this time she had minor loss of balance (0.1 deduction) in the first penche so she didn't complete the combo. 0:36 she caught with contact of the body (0.3 deduction). when she performs the routine clean, she scores 37+. just these mistakes i listed cost her 1.2, so she could've scored 37.15 without them. 35.95 is completely reasonable.
