Really enjoyed this video. I think there is so much focus now on content and perception that we forget the importance of authenticity. I saw a speaker recently who after the first 30 seconds or so of his talk ask the audience if he could just take a minute to collect his thoughts and then start over. The audience was incredibly supportive and burst into applause to show their support. By showing he was nervous, the speaker showed that he was human, which resonated with the audience, and he ended up calming down and giving a great talk!

Great series. I may have said that on another video from last week but it's worth repeating. I like how concrete your tips are.

This video is a great reminder on how important storytelling - and listening - are. I use this a lot in my media sales job and it helps make everything less transactional. A big plus when you're selling an abstraction like advertising!

Wait... what..? Your equation for *Credibility + Openness* equalled *Connection?*
I just tried adding those two words, and got *_"Credopenibilnessity"_*
    ???

It reminds me of a Maya Angelou quote I often tell myself, “People will forget what you did, people will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” My suggestion is to focus on your message. But I know it’s hard to not to think about how we look or sound when communicating. When communicating virtually, I sometimes turn off the camera in low stakes meetings or 1:1s . That way I can focus on my message. Message me at info@lhctraining.com if you’d like more suggestions.

I recently met my adult son for the first time. He'd been fed lies by his adoptive Uncle. Can you believe it he thought I'd _killed_ his real father!
I tried to make eye contact and smile, but he probably couldn't see it through my mask. I was honest and gave him the truth. "No, Luke, *_I_* am your Father..!" I said.
"Noooooooo!" he replied. It's slightly embarassing but my temper got the better of me and I admit I cut his hand off at that point.
I think I probably failed to establish an authentic connection. What would you recommend, other than using the Force to choke him, of course..?

@@lhctraining Thanks! To be serious for a moment, your videos are well-structured, follow their own guidance (in a weird-but-good fractal kind of manner), are well-presented, concise and to the point.
The channel name sets the perfect expectation too: "Lighthouse Communications - everyone who comes near us ends up smashed to bits on the rocks!" :p
