Very happy for Ryan Day! People forget if their kicker makes that fieldgoal against Georgia, he would have 2 of the last 3 nattys. He doesn't get enough credit.
Agreed but in that final drive against GA, his play-calling was not great. If they'd have been a touch more aggressive, that FG might have been from something less than 50 yds. That said, no Henderson that game. No Cade Stover. No Jaxson Smith Njigba. Harrison gets taken out by a vicious hit. And they still stayed in it. Day isn't a good coach, he's a great coach.
@steveparish4209 You prove my point though, all that against a stacked Georgia defense that have 14 players taken in the draft, and he doesn't have his 1st round players during crunch time and he had them within range to win is incredible.
Happy for Chip Kelly to get the title. I'm also glad that OSU had to go through the games they did to win it all. You can't doubt how good they are or say they got lucky with seeding or any of that. Finally, glad that we got a 7 vs 8 seeding to prove that it's not a "4 team" system or that only a couple teams really belong. That has been the biggest issue with college football I've had forever.
It really makes you think about previous years. 2005 and 2015 OSU come to mind. Neither of them made the BCS or 4 team CFP respectively but I think either of those teams might have been the best team in those years.
Yep. There were some years since 2014, especially in 2022 when OSU totally blew that Georgia game, when we/OSU could have gotten the title back. But, we'll take THIS one!

Could have been more difficult by playing in the Big Ten title game but they couldn't because they lost to Michigan. Can't win em all I guess. No team has done that since 2023.
Great game! So happy Ohio State finally pulled it off! I was super nervous when they took their foot off the gas in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Let ND back in the game, but luckily, they held them off to win it! Go Bucks! You are National Champions!!
Congratulations to the Ohio State buckeyes for winning the national championship, learning from adversity, and making adjustments and fixing your mistakes along the way. In the end you won the ultimate goal that every team works for in the off-season to win. Thank you for making buckeye nation proud.

Much respect to Freeman and his players. There was a lot of great sportsmanship between these teams and ND is tough. Great effort on their part
I agree. The Fowler/Herbstreit duo is not as good anymore. Herbstreit still does a pretty good job of analysis but Fowler's play by play has really fallen off. I used to love listening to these 2 guys call games but it's not as good as it used to be. Maybe they just need a change after all these years

Hope everyone enjoyed this season and CFP. What a year. See yall next year
Agree. Lifelong fan. 1 thing Klatt did not point to is all that star studded talent Ohio had, and the Irish with all those injuries and back ups playing... they stepped up and kept punching. I had my doubts about Freeman at first, but he is the man for the job. I pray he stays. He's an excellent coach for those boys.
Thank you so much. Super classy ND fan. You guys had a great season. Only one team could win. Will root for you guys as long as it’s not against our Buckeyes. Good luck next year!!
I was one of the many fans that wanted Ryan Day fired after that loss. But he has now proved to me that HE'S MY COACH. I apologize deeply for being one of the haters.

Congratulations to the Buckeyes, the Big 10, the Irish and all of college football! It was a great season and playoff. I feel, for the first time, we have a real national champion that actually earned it, not a mythical champion that was awarded by votes or a committee that picked the final 4 teams. Neither the Buckeyes or the Irish would have even made the playoffs in the old four team format. Great for college football!
That’s not saying much when it was 31-7. Only reason why ND is even in the game at the end is that OSU took their foots off the gas. This game was boring at best.
Both teams should be proud. The Buckeyes juggernaut was as advertised, the famous Notre Dame toughness and refusal to quit showed up as well, just two impressive programs. Congrats to the Ohio State. This 12 team playoff is a GUANTLET, and to beat that many top 10 teams in a row is nuts. From here on out, whoever wins the tournament is clearly worthy of being champion, and we can leave opinions out. P.S. except for SEC fans, who somehow will still think a 4 loss Bama would've beat Ohio State if they didn't get "snubbed" for the tournament LOL
Ryan Day has a great chance to win back 2 back championships. Can you imagine if they had beaten UGA with that field goal - he'd be going for 3 of 4. That is nuts. As it stands - he has done an amazing job. Really awesome to see him beat the adversity, showing maleable young men how to persevere.
Anyone claiming Ohio State bought a championship is hating and trying to have an excuse for being a loser, we’re not doing that salute to The 2025 National Champions The Ohio State Buckeyes enjoy it fellas well deserved and earned first time ever beating 5 top 5 teams for the natty.
producing 4 1k guys is insane 😂😂😂 the 8 and 9 seeds will have the “hardest path” most years and the fact they won it out the gate wit the new format, just like 2014, from that spot is fire !!!
Love your show, Joel, and never miss an episode (yes, I am subscribed). Your professional acumen and enthusiasm for the game are beyond reproach. Your single blemish is that you are and remain a Michigan apologist in the face of their many illegal activities. No matter where you stand on that topic, that was not an easy team to root for. Anyone with a sense of justice and decency wants to see them receive their just punishment for what they did.
Ohio State is a good team. As a ND fan I don't hate them or that "we" lost to them. I am happy with how hard "my team" fought. It would have been easy to lay down after that first half. Good game to both teams. Congrats to the Buckeyes.
can we finally admit that ohio st was the big dawg? like the underdog and sympathy is ridiculous. its only been 10 years since they won their last ship. 85% of cfb teams don’t sniff championships.
Very happy for Ryan Day. OSU isn’t an easy place to be, either as a coach or player. Day has been through it and dealt with a lot. Not everyone can handle the expectations. Congratulations to Coach Day, his staff and the team. Great run guys.
I NEVER used to respect the CFB champions before playoffs became a thing. There was always other teams I thought were good enough in a playoff structure. This was a real championship game!
I am a 64 year old Buckeye fan. I grew up as a fan and even got to see Archie Griffin play in the shoe against Michigan. I was a 12 year old Girl Scout working the stadium to help seat fans. I sat on the concrete steps and watched the game. Last night was so special. 10 years ago we won the very first National Championship under the playoff system by winning it with the third string quarterback.
BIG 10 is now in the lead for having the most top teams in the country ! Their record against the SEC this postseason left no doubts for confirming this assertion ? OSU made history with the 4 wins over awesome competition - something no other team has ever had to do ?!? - - - With the portal we now have - Ryan Day may very well have these Buckeyes right back here next season ! They also have a number of really good young recruits waiting for their turn. ( ? )
If ryan day has a few bounces of the ball go his way then I agree. The 2025 tosu team will be solid, but i don't think it will be better then this years team unless Julian Sayin turns out to be an absolute day 1 stud. We won't have as good a defense, but it's possible our offense can stay at the same level. 2026 ohio state is probably gonna be better because of the recruiting boost from winning this championship.
I love that play to go deep on that 3rd down. They had the ball and they went for the win. I love that attitude. As soon as I saw the one on one defensive setup on that play I was like I hope they throw this because ND was so focused on just stopping a run thinking Ohio State was going to chew as much clock and timeouts as possible. Great play and great win by Ohio State.
Great game last night, and big respect to Marcus Freeman and the Irish. They fought to the end and they had an incredible season too. Also--I get Klatt has to shill for the B1G, but there is no way to equate the UM title and the OSU title. UM by all rights ought to be stripped of theirs for cheating 3.5 years. Their coach was suspended twice in the same season and the program is a repeat offender for breaking NCAA rules. These two titles are not the same. I get they want to overlook that fact, but the NCAA has sanctions coming soon.
Well you're factually wrong cause the NCAA president said it was fair and square and wouldn't be taken plus they already received the noa. You're also being disingenuous about the suspensions since 1 was for a cheeseburger during covid. If you're going to talk ish at least be accurate.
Thank you Joel!!! Your broadcasts on Fox, The Joel Klatt Show, your appearances on The Herd was all top level. I watch you religiously, and I sound like the smartest guy in the room when I regurgitate your takes in college football conversations with my peers. Thanks again!!!
Such a great analysis, really bringing the story behind the story to light. Great holistic view of the season! Joel Klatt is the class of sports news/analysis.
@jeffreyprice9790 I'm trying to be nice, bottom line I don't think freeman will back away from anyone. Also should he be more worried about losing to Michigan again?
Think about what would have happened in the 4-team CFP era. This team, capable of doing what they did in the playoff, would have had to sit at home, with everyone saying what a disappointment they were, and what a poor coach Ryan Day is. This is a great achievement!
Joel said it well, rivalry is one thing, but I never hate any of the Michigan players or coaches because they all played and coached their hearts out, as painful as it is that we lost 4 in a row, I can respect the Michigan team being a great program and appreciate these 2 teams making this rivalry so great. Of course I love the Buckeyes but I can say a lot of players on the Michigan team are also very easy to like and root for when they go pro.
They hate each other, but they need each other. Both teams make each other better in ways no other B10 teams can do. When Michigan was rebuilding in the 2010s it just wasn't right. Hopefully they bounce back quickly next year with a good QB
As a Buckeye fan, I thank you for your comment. ND played a heck of a game. They definitely flexed some muscles and didn’t give up when they got behind. You have a great coach. I loved that the players on both sides played hard, but no dirty play.
A Michigan alum/fan here. Congratulations Ohio State. Thank you for all that you do Joel, and I look forward to your new show breaking the Xs and Os down for us.
I love the spirituality on this team, the toughness (both mentally and physically) , I love the grit, the determination. Great lesson for life. The whole team kneeled and prayed before TX
Telling the recent Michigan story is, I think, GROSSLY incomplete without talking about cheating and the immediate and long-term gains that they got through cheating in terms of wins and recruiting.
No offense Joel, but had the backlash against Ryan Day not been so big, he wouldn't have stopped being stubborn and Tennessee would have crushed Ohio State. The fans, myself included, were right to be angry knowing the talent of the team and how it was being utilized. Yes, he is a very winning coach, but whenever you beat teams other teams are beating by 20-30 points more, you realize how conservative the play calling was. Even in the playoffs, watch the first half of each game separately from the second half. You can see a clear difference in the strategy in the second half, which is more of how they played during the regular season. Against Oregon, OSU scored ONCE in the second half, after scoring 34 points in the first half. Against Tennessee? One score in the second half, while Tennessee scored three times. OSU was clearly the best team this year, and people have known since game one! Even Vegas knew it, with having OSU as the overall winner of the Championship while in the regular season. Ryan Day makes several million a year in his base salary, so I think it is okay to put pressure on him to earn that money.
Pressure is fine death threats and teachers yelling at his kids are not...at all. Because the vitriol was out of control the latter started occurring more and more....to be clear none of that is appropriate.
Coach Day had talked about this many times. They weren't being "conservative" all season. Day, Kelly, et al came up with a plan for this new expanded gauntlet of a season. They slowed things down, ran less plays than ever before all season in an effort to keep his team as fresh as possible for the playoff and to peak at the end of the season. It was a masterclass in coaching this season. It's not as if he magically changed their entire philosophy after one loss. Yes, they coached and players played poorly in one game. Also, credit to our rivals for playing the game of their life.
This is kind of a weird comment. Tennessee would have crushed Ohio State if Ryan Day didn't have heat on him? OSU has 17 of the top 20 players in that matchup and has a coaching advantage. Day didn't need the heat for his team to show up in the playoffs.

@MrJaiden23 no, I agree with you. Losing that game to GA probably helped Day in the long run. He's going to be great for osu for many years, I hope
Here is where you might be wrong. If they win the national championship in ‘22 all of these seniors may not have come back and win this one
@@LukeH-m6w You aren't wrong.
10 years of knocking on the door, and we finally did it!!!!!
Yep. There were some years since 2014, especially in 2022 when OSU totally blew that Georgia game, when we/OSU could have gotten the title back. But, we'll take THIS one!
@@AMDG_JMJ The What if game will drive us all mad. What if JSN and Bosa put the team before themselves. What if Meyer gives Zeke the ball more than 9 times against MSU in 2015. What if Day knew how to manage the clock in the final 32 seconds against GA. What if the referees don't Eject Shawn Wade or if they don't bs us with that must make a football move. Life as a Buckeye fan has it's ups and downs but this playoff run was impressive.
EVERYONE who has played on good to great football teams knows the brotherhood will never be forgotten
This comment is not for impressions or anything like that. The Joel Klatt Show is the first time I’ve had a show like this where I make sure I watch. Like it’s become my ritual, I go to the local breakfast diner everyday and I pop my AirPods in and listen to the episode that day. This is QUALITY work right here. But also, GO BUCKS!
Great take from one of the best commentators in CFB. Klatt reports the game from a neutral perspective. No bias, no narrative to push, just facts. Humble and real. Pate, Finebaum, ESPN, etc. could all learn something from this man. Great job, MR. Klatt. You earn my subscription and like every time you make content. GO BUCKEYES!
Great work this season Joel. So proud of my Buckeyes! OH

Ohio State and Ryan Day .. the only team in history to beat 5 Top-5 teams in one season! (Including a win over #7).
And losing to unranked Michigan, at home, as a -20.5 favorite.
This will happen nearly every year with a 12 team playoff. Also, you only beat 4 Top-5 teams.

This was the hardest path to a championship I’ve seen in playoff history and OSU dominated that path.
Just an exceptional display. Great team and a much deserved championship.
Could have been more difficult by playing in the Big Ten title game but they couldn't because they lost to Michigan. Can't win em all I guess. No team has done that since 2023.

Guess that’s why they couldn’t win all their games and only go 1 for 3 in their goals. It was just too hard.
No they didn’t. Most of the top teams this year are mid at best.
Michigan fan here. Will be happy for Buckeye Nation for exactly 24 hours, as this title adds so much respect to our conference and rivalry. Enjoy this, it’s a special feeling!

Having the National Championship on a Monday night is criminal.
Well, it made for a rough Tuesday anyway 😂
Having like 2 months to play 3/4 games is equally as bad.

I’m an OSU fan all my life, but seeing those ND kids next to Freeman in the post game broke my heart. They were tough and unfortunately only one team can be the champion.

I agree. Herbstreit and Fowler are okay. Klatt and Gus are legends.
As Ryan Day said, the experience of his team was the difference with this team compared to his others

I am bummed that ND fell short but so proud of what they have overcome. Excited what Freeman has done and fully believe we will be competing as long as Freeman is there.
Well you and the rest of the irrational fans probably ran him off to the NFL, so kudos to you.

I am really looking forward to the schematic shows. Teach me what I need to know Uncle Joel. And thanks for a tremendous season of broadcasts.
Gotta hand it to you. Your preseason prediction was on the money. 😮😮
Been a Buckeye fan for 50+ years, after the lost to ttun, I really didn't think this run to the Championship was possible. We'll they sure proved me wrong. I had my reservations about Coach Day but this playing run proved he's the msn! I've found it ironic that they win the1st BCS in 2015, then win the 1st CFP in 2025!
As a buckeye fan im going to be real the biggest loser is Brian Kelly for thinking ND cant win a title
They still haven't so he is right for the time being. Kelly also lost a NC with Notre Dame. Kelly also left before NIL was the way it was today. He went to the SEC because of the bias, and that solid payday! Can't blame him!
@@MrJaiden23 Kelly only got to the title game by having an undefeated regular season. He never won a playoff game or a major bowl. And where was Kelly during the playoffs this year?
He was right though, they can't win a title....with Brian Kelly as head coach😂
He was a clown coach and left every single team he coached hanging. He deserves failure and I’m glad he’s at the most overrated college in the SEC

‘Leave no doubt’ the last 4 years this seniors have lost to Georgia by 1 pt, gone through Covid, Connor Stallions, NIL, transfer portal, crazy fan base, losing to TTUN, n strengthening their faith…. sweet victory, sweet victory… congratulations tOSU!
Oooohhh Joel Klatt took a shot at Michigan when he said Ryan Day “does it the right way” 😂😂😂 very subtle Joel
The Buckeyes beat the teams ranked #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, and #10 in the final AP poll. The previous record was five wins against Top-10 teams, ironically set by Notre Dame in 1943.
You lost to Michigan which is great but congrats to you for a well earned Natty.
That’s nuts. This 12 team playoff format is amazing because we get to see the best of the best matchups and whoever comes out on top is undisputed
They also best #1 of you count the time they beat themselves against UM
@@bobtheEnthere we go with the beat themselves excuse. Ya lost. Period.
Ohio State just became the first team in history to beat 5 teams ranked in the top 5 in one season!
Michigan fan here. What you said is true. A lot of Buckeyes came back to win a Natty - they accomplished that, just like Michigan players did the year before. So kudos to them. That makes the game on November 29th huge. The last two Natty winners facing off. “The Game” will even be more dynamic!
Jeremiyah Love, Dylan Sampson, Jordan James and Quintrevion Wisner rushed for a combined total of less than 70 yards against the buckeyes in the playoff.
To be fair Love got like 4 Carrie’s.
Respect him a lot, but he was getting stuffed so I see why@tkaki6029
@tkaki6029 yeah I think Sampson git something similar. Got beat up. I'm shocked Riley stayed in the whole game. I thought they were going to destroy that kid. Didn't they say he was limping and threw up after the first drive? Guys a warrior.

B10 RULES
Congratulations to the Buckeyes, the Big 10, the Irish and all of college football! It was a great season and playoff. I feel, for the first time, we have a real national champion that actually earned it, not a mythical champion that was awarded by votes or a committee that picked the final 4 teams. Neither the Buckeyes or the Irish would have even made the playoffs in the old four team format. Great for college football!
It is much improved....they need to fix things a bit. I have no idea why anyone would want to play the extra conference title game now.
@@toddjohnson271your right. After a few seasons of ncaa25 I realized that the conference championships literally don't matter at all.
100% agree with your playoff take! Love the playoffs and the affect they had on the end of the season
Only thing that would have made yesterday better would have been for you and Gus to announce it!
I think it is fair to say ND was more competitive against Ohio State than Oregon.
Yes because they play defense. You can always judge the best teams by best defenses.
That’s not saying much when it was 31-7. Only reason why ND is even in the game at the end is that OSU took their foots off the gas. This game was boring at best.
Agreed. That’s why the AP final ranking of #2 is right for ND.
Imagine if they woulda called unnecessary roughness on that hit on MH Jr...probably no need for a FG
I feel like OSU is always going to be in the mix for the national championship with Coach Day as the leader.
Great season Buckeyes and great season Klatt. Thanks for another year of fun Saturdays!
Takeaway the fumble by Egbuka, and the game would've been over much earlier, even if we only got 3 on that drive. We were just better.
Joel: Ohio State is now the only program whose last 3 coaches have each won a national championship. Edit: Interim doesn't count.
Yeah crazy to say they bought a title when Alabama and the SEC bought their titles for the last 15 years. BCS and the S stands for SEC

Congrats to the Buckeyes. I honestly didn't think RD would ever muster the magic or fortitude required to win it all. I was obviously wrong.
producing 4 1k guys is insane 😂😂😂 the 8 and 9 seeds will have the “hardest path” most years and the fact they won it out the gate wit the new format, just like 2014, from that spot is fire !!!
They are the most talented roster I have seen since maybe that 2011ish Alabama or dare I say 2001 Miami Hurricanes.
Thanks for the understanding football series.

This is such a wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing!
I am so proud of this Buckeye team. I love these guys and will always remember this season. O H !

Thanks Joel.
I'm a proud Buckeye alum every day, but today is extra special. Natty!
Great show Joel, Thank you so much and I watched you and Gus all year broadcast the Big Ten Games and the Saturday Fox College Football games.
Let's not even discuss them right now. They only get attention through their connection to us.
Thank you Joel!!! Your broadcasts on Fox, The Joel Klatt Show, your appearances on The Herd was all top level. I watch you religiously, and I sound like the smartest guy in the room when I regurgitate your takes in college football conversations with my peers. Thanks again!!!

Buckeye here; a huge tip of the cap to this Notre Dame team. Battled back harder than any other team in the country would have. Great game, go Bucks!
Most of the returning roster took pay CUTS by staying. People mistake NIL for NFL contracts

ESPN keeps putting up 7th national title for Ohio State. It's the 9th.
Such a great analysis, really bringing the story behind the story to light. Great holistic view of the season! Joel Klatt is the class of sports news/analysis.
Personally loved the playoffs. I’m glad it was decided on the field and not in board rooms. The best team won
ND fan here, figured this would be the result. OSU has a heck of a team, won't be surprised if we meet again next year.
That would make it 4 years straight day bests freeman... idk if you really want that 😅
@jeffreyprice9790 I'm trying to be nice, bottom line I don't think freeman will back away from anyone.
Always love your show, Joel! Thank you!
Joel keeps saying he hasn’t seen a player like Smith in a long time like we didn’t have Marvin Harrison Jr the last couple years.
Notre Dame fan. Props to Ohio State. Best team in the country. Deserved the Natty.

As a Buckeye fan, I thank you for your comment. ND played a heck of a game. They definitely flexed some muscles and didn’t give up when they got behind. You have a great coach. I loved that the players on both sides played hard, but no dirty play.

I love the spirituality on this team, the toughness (both mentally and physically) , I love the grit, the determination. Great lesson for life. The whole team kneeled and prayed before TX
Ohio State spent most of the 20 million to retain the players from going to the NFL. O.H.I.O!!
