Trunyan Village Cemetery or Skull Island in Trunyan Village, Bali.
Trunian village is on the eastern bank of Batur Lake. It is home to the culturally isolated Bali Aga people.
The Trunian people practice rituals that are not found anywhere else in Bali.
The Trunianians have the unusual custom of not burying or cremating their dead. After the body is ritually cleansed with rain water, the body of the deceased is placed in a special cage made of bamboo under an ancient Taru Menian tree ,similar to the banyan tree until the forces of nature dissolve the body tissue.
Tharu Menian means 'fragrant tree'. This tree emits an unusual fragrance. It neutralizes the smell of decaying bodies.
The name Trunian is also derived from this tree. Also, a feature of Trunian funerals is that only the dead bodies of married people are allowed to be placed in bamboo canopy .
When we went there, a five-day-old dead body was kept in a bamboo cage. To our surprise, it had no smell.
It is seen that the things used by the dead person and that were loved by him are kept near the dead body. Therefore, there is a strict ban on taking even one thing from here.
After the body decomposes, the skull is taken and stacked in a pile. We saw a pile of many skulls there.
We had a strange and unique experience on the Trunian Village Cemetery Tour in Bali.

Bali is a paradise on Earth. Bali offers fantastic natural scenery, fascinating architecture, colourful ceremonies, beautiful rice terraces, breathtaking waterfalls, looming volcanos and unique beaches.

- We booked the 'Batur Sunrise Jeep tour' and 'Trunyan Skull Island Tour' through the "Bali Ritual Tour" by Gusti Arsaguna.
- 'Nusa Penida One Day Trip' ( East and West ) through 'JL Tours' run by Ketut Jasson and also hired a daily taxi from Jl Tours. We got an excellent driver 'Kadak Delk Lus' who made our trip comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.
We explored the North, South and Central part of Bali. The places we stayed in were:
- 'Ubud Raya Resort Pool Villa' in Ubud.
- A luxury stay in 'Apurva Kempinski' in Nusa Dua.
- Experienced Breakfast with Lions and fed zebras from the balcony in ‘Mara River Safari Lodge'.
-' Ramada by Wyndham' in Kutta .
We also explored local cuisine, beaches, villages, volcanoes, lakes , waterfalls, beaches and some unexplored offbeat places.
