Cash I played WR. Tips you asked for…. Always keep your two hands together to form a triangle like the Illuminati sign. Keep them together at all times. The harder the pass comes to you, the easier it is to catch. It hits the pocket and forces the hands to grasp the ball. Never EVER stray from hands together and try to “clamp” down on the ball.
Hands together forming the triangle pocket. If the pass is chest high or higher, the fingertips will be at the top of the triangle. Move the pocket right, center or left depending where the pass is thrown, but the pocket stays the same. Fingers on top of the triangle.
If the pass is waist high or below, you reverse the triangle hand placement to keep the fingers on the down side below the triangle (upside down triangle pocket), open up your thumbs to allow the ball into the reverse pocket and almost interlock your fingers together. Hands together forming the pocket. Below the waist…. Upside down pocket, thumbs apart, very tips of fingers slightly interlocked and again…. Move the pocket right, center or left depending on the throw.
Very simple. Hands forming a triangle pocket at all times when the pass is close. Fingertips to the top of the triangle chest high on up. Fingertips at the bottom of the reverse triangle waist high and below. The pass will always force your hands to clamp down on the ball (actually cups it softly) when it hits the pocket. Easy easy.

No…. Waist down, very ends of fingertips touching with the thumbs at the top and facing outwards. It forms a reverse pocket. It works the same as the upwards triangle. When the ball hits the pocket, it forces the hands to clamp on the ball, but only after it’s in the pocket. This is what allows receivers to only catch with the hands. Anyone that goes up for a pass without having the pocket already formed and hands apart is doomed to clamp and grasp at the ball. That NEVER works.
@@hotboxedHemi300 It’s not clamping down. It’s soft hands, but anytime a ball hits the pocket, it will cause the hands to cup it (maybe clamp was a bad term). The harder the pass, the more the cup will secure the catch. Hands apart and “clamping” or grasping at the ball is a recipe for disaster.

A tip that may help you catch the ball better is to just get a friend or something and just throw the ball back and forth for at least 30 minutes. Just regularly throwing it back and forth. That may help you get used to the motion of catching the ball.
I know kids watching all these receivers use pure hands to catch. I can also add to start by catching it with your body also
