@@rightwired Thanks for that tidbit of history! I had no idea that location used to be an arcade. I fondly remember the Tilt when it was located in the hallway nook without any storefront. Such a unique "underground" location for something like an arcade to live.
@@mouseish You're welcome! Went there a a few times - pretty scary for a 7 year old..ehhe it was mostly pinball machines and some early arcades. It was shaped like a tunnel, actually, you went in through one door, around a bend, and back out the other side. Pretty small After the Gold Mine opened, it died quickly. It was right across the Robin Hood Restaurant (which became Applebee's) The mall was a few blocks from us, so we went almost every other day.
I love this since people were still here a little... and Carson's was still there. There used to be an arcade on the right that went further back, was this whole big room with tall ceilings and on the left (before Carson's) was this really amazing comic book store also with pop culture things. It's nice to have this where I can remember it a little more like it was, with people.
It opened in 1971. Killed downtown MC. I haven't been there since the early 80s. Mom worked at CPS for years. Remember Vales Toy Store? Shame it's headed south but it's a sign of the times.
The Chinese place was an Old Country Buffet when I was there
And before that: A Food Court. And before that: An Arcade called the "Tunnel of Fun'.
