Without diving into it, my first year as a paddler has been a hard one in my life as a whole. Your videos give me peace at times, confidence, at others, and instruction, in all, and P5’s progress inspires me to be a better paddler, and to work harder at it. Thank you.

I couldn't agree more with this !! The first video I watched on this chanel I was like... "dude 48 minutes ?!" Before I knew it I was 30 minutes in... Never thought I'd be able to watch hour long you tube vids, but I learn so much watching yall, and you have a way of making the viewer feel involved like I'm actually there 🤙🤙love em!

I began watching your videos about a year ago while waiting for my very first boat to be delivered. Here I am again watching more, trying to build my skills here in Oregon, and still learning from your vids -- got some good friends and love the sport. I hope to do my first falls someday soon, too! Son is climber as I but he has started in my other enjoyment ww kayaking, as he heads off to College. Sending to college as a V8 5.13 climber and can now C2C, Eskimo, and hand roll. There is nothing like watching one of your kids or any child do something very well and you give that reinforcement this is something that has been lost for quite a while and it is part of the reason our country is getting so screwed up. Perfect...I have 5 kids. They grew up outdoors with me back backing, paddling etc. It gets in their blood, some more than others. I love watching them embrace and pursue their passions. Good on ya' brother...and congrats Pete!
Man, I really hate I missed the premiere for this one. Probably your best work yet Pete, and I can only imagine how proud you must have been, and still are. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little misty eyed by the end of it. The rest of the gang did amazing work as well, and I know I cheered out loud more than once or twice when somebody hit their rolls. I'm looking forward to when I can get back in my boat and head off on adventures like these again. Keep doing what you're doing man, great stuff!

I love that area as well... Camped bald river many times. If you run your footage back you'll notice a small sliver to the right in the trees that's a seperate waterfall and barely visible. Its taller than bald river too, and often overlooked.
Awesome video Pete. I wish I could take my 12 yr old son along for adventures. He's low functioning autistic unfortunately, it's doubtful he will ever be able to. Though, I wish he were there every time. Hope to see more videos of your son's progress. Fun video!
Thanks Andrew! I wondered if he would ever want to take on Whitewater. Watching him excel in the sport has been amazing, but most important to me is the time I get to spend with him. It really wouldn't matter in the end what we were doing...just that we spent that time. I once coached a kid on my daughter's soccer team that had been passed around the league due to some issues that made coaching a real challenge. The league called and told me nobody else wanted him. I said bring him on. The first 2 seasons were very challenging but I had the best time with him when a couple things finally clicked and there was progress. To be honest, it was the same feeling - his simple progress was the same level of achievement in relation to his ability as P5 sending waterfalls. I will never forget the hug he gave me on the field when by a miracle he finally scored a goal. It was all so worth it for that little moment. So, while I dont know what it is like to be in your shoes, I do know that a father's love is a father's love and that time together can never be replaced. Let me know if I can help get him out on the water sometime!
Love the content kinda bing watching as I’ve just come across your channel I’m getting back into the sport after 10 years away from it it’s been a really good inspiration for me to plan towards my goal. I’m from Australia as well I have a few paddling friends over there manly in the white water race scene as that’s what I manly did growing up.

Thanks so much for all your great videos! In my first year of kayaking and I learn a lot from your videos! You and your son wear full face helmets. Would you generally recommend wearing those? Would be great to hear your thoughts on that.
If I am on any sort of challenging water that involves a lot of rocks I always wear my full face. Little man wears his because that's what Mama demanded! LOL. I have a regular helmet as well that I'll use when I'm doing things that are less likely to involve introducing my face to a rock. If I'm Steve creaking and doing waterfalls or really technical runs I'll have my full face. If I'm in fluffy water, big water something like the New River Gorge or surfing in a play hole I probably would just use a standard helmet. You will hear plenty of opinions on which helmet is best, but nobody can tell you you will get less protection from a full-face helmet. I have had several friends bus their face and teeth and nose on rocks and paddle blades and paddle shafts and boats and the like. Almost every single one of them transition to a full face afterwards LOL
Tranks so much. Sounds very reasonable. Also heard some gnarly stories of lost teeth and the like. Have my eyes on a sweet Rocker full face on Craigslist (or rather the German Equivalent).
