+Wesley Wise Calm down, Wes. You won with the best color for mono colored commanders. I'm team Wes but lose the blue. Any chance we can get videos more often in the future?
Wes shouldn't lose that much point for searching. Stephen just messed with his deck while he was searching, saying he wanted to read the cards and told him he had a combo he overlooked, but then just saying ''Oh, nevermind''. He had his card in hand. makes no sense to make him lose points because the guy beside him bullshits him. Still, was, by far, the best ending ever. Please call Stephen Spielberg so he can make a movie with it.
I think this truly personifies a Wes Wise win, and I couldn't be more happy with this episode. I think the end thoughts should be you can't lose with platinum in your corner.
Wes winning with Phage is pretty awesome. What I cant wait for is the crew to play with the 2015 Commander Products and then play with custom decks running those commanders!
This is the greatest birthday I could ever have. My favorite commander Phage not only being featured in Commander Vs, but winning in Commander Vs! 10 points to Wes!!!
+Sinoath There is a link to the deck list in the description. :) It's on the StarCityGames.com website. Look right under the video and click "show deck list."
Soooo, all Wes needed to win was a "you can't lose the game" effect and a deck build by Justin? :D Also, he won, but still lost a shittone of points due to this unfair 30 seconds tutoring rule :/
+Serphis Wicekonsul You mean unfair for the people who take several minutes to tutor a single card, thus making the games less fun to watch? Yes, I suppose you're right. Justin Parnell rarely (if ever) loses a point for this rule because he, in general, knows what he's tutoring for. It's a perfectly fine rule. Sorry for blowing up at you. It's just that they read these comments and I don't want them to think the rule was unanimously bad. It's the single best rule that they have, and makes for a way more fun viewing experience.
Okay, that is true what you're saying, but what I meant by "unfair" is that they weren't playing their own decks, so for this and the previous episode this rule should be 1 minute. I agree that those superlong tutorings they were doing in season 1 pissed everybody up every time and they needed a rule for it. All I mean is 30s is not enough IMO. I'm a Commander player myself and I always tutor for about a minute even if I exactly know what i'm looking for. Just to see some other options.
+Sam Juarascio The problem here was they've never seen these decks before. There is 99 cards that they don't know, and they have 30 seconds to read them and make a choice. Normally you are 100% right they should know their deck and what they want to be searching for and 30 seconds is fair. But for these two mystery series games they really should have upped the time limit.
+Serphis Wicekonsul I agree with you. The rule is unfair, plus Wes has never seen the deck before, overall that was a hilarious win and I am happy for Wes.
+pineapple123321 Search rules are perfect. Tutoring not only slows down the game for the other players, but also the viewing experience for us. For reference, I don't think Justin has lost a point for searching yet (maybe one). If you're gonna tutor, you should know roughly what you need to be looking for.
+Sam Juarascio Under normal circumstances yes, but here they're playing decks they don't know and Stephen was distracting Wes during the search. Wes at least should have only lost 1 point for that Diabolic Tutor.
What an epic way for Wes to finally win one! Not only did he win with almost -40 life, not only did he kill every player at the table one at a time, but he dealt the killing blow with a Sign in Blood... they'll be telling the legend of Wes Wise for years. (Kudos to Justin for taking out Jon's Norn's Annex so Wes could get in for the kill)
HOLY SHIT, GOOD JOB! Wes is now my new favorite player in the series. That clip from the world series at the end was perfect. I'm so amazed and happy right now, and Justin can suck it.
So when they were acknowledging that Wes couldn't kill Justin due to the thespian stage that copied glacial chasm its relevant to note that even if he just got to put the thespian stage back into play he wouldn't get the protection affect because it would come back as thespian stage not glacial chasm he also had no way to get the glacial chasm back during Wes' turn meaning Wes could have just killed Justin instead of John. I may have missed something so could someone confirm this for me the instance I am talking about is at 1:11:32.
At 1:13:34, while it was Jonathan Suarez's turn he misplayed, he could have simple attacked with his equipped Transcendent Master, and triggered his Umezawa's Jitte, placing 2 more charge counters onto it, then removing all 4 charge counters targeting Wes's Platinum Angel 4 times and giving it 4 instances of -1/-1 and killing it. Umezawa's Jitte reads "Whenever equipped creature deals COMBAT damage put two charge counter's on Umezawa's Jitte.
+hkon8 30 seconds is definitely fair for a deck that someone builds themselves, especially since they build them relatively close to the time they play them (usually). For something like this, where you don't have the list even mostly in your head, extending it a bit should be allowed, or just limited to one point per search, no matter how much time is lost.
+hkon8 Well it usually wouldn't be that bad as they built the deck, so hopefully you aren't searching for more than 30 seconds in a deck you made. Thought this time around it is rather harsh with having almost 0 knowledge of what is in your deck. As in a IRL edh game searching really bogs games down really hard especially with how many people play. Though when you literally have no clue on what is in your deck, and they are search orientated deck I can agree for games like that the rule should be changed.
Noooo Danny West has cancer?? He and McDarby will always be the reason I started watching Commander VS. Series on this channel. Get well soon, Danny. Sincerely, a saddened fan. I'd go to Atlanta just to tell you in person if I could, I swear.
Congrats to Wes on the win. One other person below me pointed it out already but didn't explain it: Once Wes had killed Jonathan and Stephen he could have used one of his next tutors to search for Erebos, God of the Dead. This would keep Justin from being able to gain life to pay for glacial chasm and the god is immune to any dead baby triggers. Justin just happened to play into Wes's Bojuka Bog, otherwise this game could have gone long enough for Justin to dig out an answer to the indestructible platinum angel.
21 october...it will not be the day i remember the born of my daughter or the day i will make her the best birthday party ever..But,i celebrate this day just for the insane victory of Wes!!YOU'RE THE MAN
Please give Wes only one or two points loss for that searching towards the end. The counter started to run before he picked up his deck and Steven distracted him during the search, because he thought there was a combo.
I seriously want you guys to do games featuring the guild leaders of ravnica (original or return), as well as one featuring the maze runners of each guild from dragon's maze. I want more melek please!
if Justin added Rites of Flourishing to his hand at 1:20:00, Wes literally could never kill him since he could always play glacial chasm and sac it each turn and play the additional land without going down in lands. Then once he eventually draws exploration he can start going up in land count again. From here he can start gaining 20 a turn to get out of drain range. On a side note, if he played glacial for turn then with the trigger to sac a land on the stack copied it with thespian stage and just sac chasm to chasm he gets around the glacial chasm sac and could stall until he can play 2 lands.
+NegativeNezzy (Choi) This week's decklists are here (be sure to click the "show decklists button on both below the video): www.starcitygames.com/article/31761_Commander-VS-Four-Player-Action.html#comments and last week's are here: www.starcitygames.com/article/31729_Commander-VS-Four-Player-Mystery-Surprise.html
Did Justin transmute his Tolaria West from the battlefield at 1:00:50? Because you need to discard to transmute, not sacrifice. That gave him 20 life and kept him from losing.
No, those two cards back there are actually in his hand. (He picked it up off the table thanks to the Lair he played.) They were face up like that because everyone knew they were the cards in his hand.
Now that Phage deck probably needs a Command Beacon from the new Commander 2015 set to put Phage into your hand from the command zone - and a Crucible of Worlds in order to reuse Command Beacon over and over again ;) . Might actually work. Not to mention that Torpor Orb is great with creatures like Hunted Horror, Eater of Days and Phyrexian Dreadnought ^^.
justin parnell you are my hero i think this is my second favorite deck ever on commander vs the other one was angus mackenzie. phage sepuku life for ever!
Wes Wise won wow I thought I would never see it happen. As much as Wes lost through out season 1 and beyond Wes needed this Victory. It makes the victory that much sweeter all the Times he has lost finally for Wes he has done the impossible.
Wes could've gotten Endless Whispers when tutoring for a possible alternate win condition. I thought he was setting that up when he got decree of pain.
Wes had Hall of the Bandit Lord and Parnell had no blockers. Play Phage again, with haste. So many turns I was like AHHHHH YOU DONT SEE IT! But solid finish anyway.
I have to say, I almost always root for Justin because he always gets the commanders I love. Personally, I laughed so hard when Justin got Child of Alara, but he made it fun!
I would love to see a 4 player game with the Nephilim as commanders. I know they're not legends, but wouldn't it be cool to see how 4 color edh plays out?
I have just started watching these matches, and I'm enjoying it. But, I would like to see the mono colored Gods vs. each other. I only ask that Erebos has to be one of the 4 you guys use. I have my own Erebos, God of the Dead commander deck, and it's basically board wipes, mass mana production, big and scary creatures that ramp and kill, and the obvious black combo for when I get tired of the game LOL. It also has multiple ways to search out combos. But, I would be intrigued to see what type of decks everyone was to make. Thank you.
I think the 30s rule should be 1 point from a search over 30s, not every 30s one point down. Losing a point is pretty harsh already, sometimes the player wants to make math, or check people's graveyards before choosing said card, when the player realizes he may need more than 30s he simply accepts the point and go about it more relaxed and actually be faster overall (best choices lead to faster games due to better plays)
I would like to state that Child of Alara's boardwipe ability has been errata'd to be a death trigger. So it doesn't have to hit the Graveyard to trigger.
I must have been distracted. Was Justin playing with his hand revealed? Because he transmuted Tolaria West while it was on the battlefield? 702.52a Transmute is an activated ability that functions only while the card with transmute is in a player’s hand. “Transmute [cost]” means “[Cost], Discard this card: Search your library for a card with the same converted mana cost as the discarded card, reveal that card, and put it into your hand. David Boden yeah he was playing with hand revealed because all the cards in hand were tutored and revealed so they were common knowledge. He was just being a good guy
Why didn't Wes Wasteland Justin's Thespian's Stage? Sure, it would have come back, but it wouldn't have been a Glacial Chasm, and Wes could have taken out Justin sooner? Were they confused about how Sacred Ground works?
I love coming back and watching these old videos. Best commander channel on TH-cam by a long shot
Wes embodies everything that makes me love magic. He gets so happy over this game and I love it.
Daaww :-)
Love Wes for this game
+Wesley Wise Calm down, Wes. You won with the best color for mono colored commanders. I'm team Wes but lose the blue. Any chance we can get videos more often in the future?
+Brandon Schott Go team Wes!
Wes is the most fun player by far
Wes shouldn't lose that much point for searching. Stephen just messed with his deck while he was searching, saying he wanted to read the cards and told him he had a combo he overlooked, but then just saying ''Oh, nevermind''. He had his card in hand. makes no sense to make him lose points because the guy beside him bullshits him.
Still, was, by far, the best ending ever. Please call Stephen Spielberg so he can make a movie with it.
"I don't like to just win; I like to win hard." -Wes Wise. get wrecked, boys
Probably my favorite game you all have played so far. That was really fun to watch, good job Wes.
this is still in my opinion the best commander VS video of all time.
i always come back to this as well
Same. It's the reason I pilot Phage.
Good to know
That Phage deck is actually freaking sweet. Will want to build!
"Show me on your life total where Phage touched you"... ROTFLMAO
That blooper at the end had me on the floor! Have I been missing those in every video?
I think this truly personifies a Wes Wise win, and I couldn't be more happy with this episode. I think the end thoughts should be you can't lose with platinum in your corner.
Wes winning with Phage is pretty awesome. What I cant wait for is the crew to play with the 2015 Commander Products and then play with custom decks running those commanders!
From one Wes to another, way to represent ^_^ so glad you finally won!
This is the greatest birthday I could ever have. My favorite commander Phage not only being featured in Commander Vs, but winning in Commander Vs! 10 points to Wes!!!
+Sinoath Happy Birthday :)
+Wesley Wise Thanks man :) Is it possible to see a decklist for her I have a deck made for her and I'd like to see the comparisons.
+Sinoath There is a link to the deck list in the description. :) It's on the StarCityGames.com website. Look right under the video and click "show deck list."
Thanks man!!! See you in Atlanta!
"PILE ON!" @14:06 EVERYONE, GET IN HERE!
You're welcome, Wes :D great vid as always, guys.
Soooo, all Wes needed to win was a "you can't lose the game" effect and a deck build by Justin? :D
Also, he won, but still lost a shittone of points due to this unfair 30 seconds tutoring rule :/

These last two videos have been the best videos i have ever watched on youtube.
Just when I thought you guys posted the best video, this comes out. This was incredible and I loved every minute of it ^_^
To be honest I was pretty pumped by the victor
A Perfect Circle t-shirt? Yoooo Stephen my man!
best band
+oaketree not close :)
+Han Daimond my thoughts exactly the moment i saw it. Maynard for Pres 2016
He won, killed everyone, and yet it all culminated towards 1 single point more than when he started. I think the search rules are abit harsh.
+pineapple123321 Search rules are perfect. Tutoring not only slows down the game for the other players, but also the viewing experience for us. I would motion for Wes to not lose so many points for searching...Stephen was doing more searching in the deck at that moment than Wes was! imho
Honestly this is the best episode yet. The april fool's one was great but I think this one tops it off!
What an epic way for Wes to finally win one! Not only did he win with almost -40 life, not only did he kill every player at the table one at a time, but he dealt the killing blow with a Sign in Blood... they'll be telling the legend of Wes Wise for years.
(Kudos to Justin for taking out Jon's Norn's Annex so Wes could get in for the kill)
thanks Wes, you just landed me a pack of BFZ for winning one game this series! Can't wait to crack it pen later tonight
HOLY SHIT, GOOD JOB! Wes is now my new favorite player in the series. That clip from the world series at the end was perfect. I'm so amazed and happy right now, and Justin can suck it.
Phage and Child of Alara look like they're recreating the Sistine Chapel.
So when they were acknowledging that Wes couldn't kill Justin due to the thespian stage that copied glacial chasm its relevant to note that even if he just got to put the thespian stage back into play he wouldn't get the protection affect because it would come back as thespian stage not glacial chasm he also had no way to get the glacial chasm back during Wes' turn meaning Wes could have just killed Justin instead of John. i realy do not like how the search rule works. they should know how much time they have left at all time.
extend it to 1min. or 45sec. at least.
+hkon8 30 seconds is definitely fair for a deck that someone builds themselves, especially since they build them relatively close to the time they play them (usually). Omg I'm really glad I stayed until the very end, It's so freaking funny XD

Jonathan didn't even get life from the woul warden when other creatures entered the battlefield...
Yes, Wes! Best video in the series!
Haha the Grim Patron jokes. Also Green wearing the best shirt.
Can we get the deck lists to this week and last week's video? I'm enamored with last week's Lin Sivi list haha.
+Justin Corless Yeah, they aren't the best. There are so many misplays in this series, like in normal commander games.
+Justin Corless I believe it was in his hand and revealed, so that everyone else didn't have to remember.
The tolaria west and mazes end were in his hand, but because it was public info he had them face up in front of him
No, those two cards back there are actually in his hand. (He picked it up off the table thanks to the Lair he played.) They were face up like that because everyone knew they were the cards in his hand.
+Vidimir Rayne Gotcha. I suppose I didnt watch back far enough to see them go from his hand to being revealed and next to his lands
To win with Phage as the Commander, just awesome!
Y'all should do this again in Season 2. This was a great idea and made for probably two of y'alls best videos.
"Don't talk about it"
"Be about it"
had to pause the video and catch my breath from laughing 10/10
round 50:00 there's some trample damage through some indestructibles... doesn't trample require a dead creature?
Nope, just more than lethal on the creature being trampled over's toughness.
why wes tap 2 manas to cast 2 black spells if he got those cards that adds another black when you turn the mana?
justin's reaction to losing was awesome
Can we get more land based EDH decks.
Wes, I remember that Serra Avatar life gain deck from back in 7th grade! :D
you gain life with soul warden when other people drop creatures too
Now that Phage deck probably needs a Command Beacon from the new Commander 2015 set to put Phage into your hand from the command zone - and a Crucible of Worlds in order to reuse Command Beacon over and over again ;) . Might actually work.
Not to mention that Torpor Orb is great with creatures like Hunted Horror, Eater of Days and Phyrexian Dreadnought ^^.
One of you guys should play the Infernal kirin commander deck. I would love to see how you guys would come up with other deck to play around this deck
Respect to Stephen wearing a perfect circle shirt
omg the hype, get home from work and the next video is up! XD
Loved the game as always congrats Wes.You guys keep doing what you do.
hands down my favorite commander vs since danny and david mc d played goblins and elves
1:31.15 the look on Stephen Greens face lmfao!!!
Wes need stylish points for winning at negative life!
justin parnell you are my hero i think this is my second favorite deck ever on commander vs the other one was angus mackenzie. phage sepuku life for ever!
Everyone appreciate the A Perfect Circle shirt... good, continue.
Why does the clock start before the player has even picked up their deck to search?
+Coby Folk I guess it start when the spell resolves
still this was an awesome game good job wess / jp keep up the great work!!!
congratulation WES!!!! i have to build this Phage-deck!
I just made it, couldn't afford some of those expensive cards, but I just made a version to fit my $130 budget
+corey holman decklist?
+Sven Jungo I'll post it soon
Greatest episode since the April Fool's Day brilliance. Well done, gentlemen.
Wes finally wins.....I never thought this day would come.....
"It's how many times can I lose and not lose"
I swear this is Wes' motto
Also "The mouth of the south" XD
NIce one. Fun to watch and WES wins. :3
And so he won, his first and last game of commander in the history of Magic itself
is Endless Whisper in the Phage deck?
please tell me that Endless Whispers is in the phage deck
Wes Wise won wow I thought I would never see it happen. As much as Wes lost through out season 1 and beyond Wes needed this Victory. It makes the victory that much sweeter all the Times he has lost finally for Wes he has done the impossible.
Wes could've gotten Endless Whispers when tutoring for a possible alternate win condition. I thought he was setting that up when he got decree of pain.
You guys should seriously do the four sliver legends for an upcoming episode
Here's a fun idea:
Olivia Voldaren: Vampires
vs
Grim Grin: Zombies
vs
Geist of St. Traft: Spirits
+SnowCoveredPlainswalker Those 3 vs. Avacyn: Angels
Or Gisela Angels
well done wes wise
Yay Wes! Great video lads. Keep them coming!
"The legend of the facial-hair" has been beaten ! Go Wes !
Wes had Hall of the Bandit Lord and Parnell had no blockers. Play Phage again, with haste. So many turns I was like AHHHHH YOU DONT SEE IT! But solid finish anyway.
what do you do with the cards that they play with
YES PHAGE YES WES.
I have to say, I almost always root for Justin because he always gets the commanders I love. Personally, I laughed so hard when Justin got Child of Alara, but he made it fun!
I would love to see a 4 player game with the Nephilim as commanders. I know they're not legends, but wouldn't it be cool to see how 4 color edh plays out?
should erratta texted as a legend
Wes won :o it's like easter-sunday on christmas eve :D better than anything else in the world...
This whole random series thing I was hoping someone would choose phage 😂
when green attacked Suarez with bosh, it sounded like the didn't add jor kadeens metal craft to the damage.
1:35:32 Wes like a BOSS!!
Thank you.
how work the score of the series ?
can you guys do the non flip planeswalker legends from magic origins
I think the 30s rule should be 1 point from a search over 30s, not every 30s one point down. Losing a point is pretty harsh already, sometimes the player wants to make math, or check people's graveyards before choosing said card, when the player realizes he may need more than 30s he simply accepts the point and go about it more relaxed and actually be faster overall (best choices lead to faster games due to better plays)
I would like to state that Child of Alara's boardwipe ability has been errata'd to be a death trigger. So it doesn't have to hit the Graveyard to trigger.
+James Herbert-Voss 700.4. The term dies means “is put into a graveyard from the battlefield.”
I must have been distracted. Was Justin playing with his hand revealed? Because he transmuted Tolaria West while it was on the battlefield?
702.52a Transmute is an activated ability that functions only
while the card with transmute is in a player’s hand. “Transmute [cost]”
means “[Cost], Discard this card: Search your library for a card with
the same converted mana cost as the discarded card, reveal that card,
and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. Activate this
ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.”
Stephen, love your shirt! :D
is extort allowed in mono colored white/black decks? isn't it technically hybrid mana?
Jon misplayed so bad that it looked like he wanted Wes to win. but finally Wes won!
Amazing win.
Applying the 30 second tutor when there is a deck that forces you to. That's not fair.
