I just got to my mom and stepdads place, he got this a while ago but hasn't set it up properly yet. Cable box and blu ray connect to the receiver, receiver is connected to the TV, that simple? Do you use the receiver remote and switch to the receiver input to control everything? Also, just noticed when my mom turned the home computer off that it shut off the router it seems, as Internet and tv service shut off. Computer is connected through WiFi only. Pretty sure receiver is connected to the router. Sorry I've just never dealt with a receiver this new thats capable of so much.
Will the setup with the new unit hooked up to a display, go through ALL the setup as far as the channeling? We want to use the 1st zone as output OUTSIDE, while the 2nd zone is used for a 2nd source INSIDE. ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
I have the NR636 to pair with 4k HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 Samsung TV and Blu-ray. The NR636 arrives with HDMI IN #1 pre-assigned to the Blu-ray, however, only the HDMI IN #3 is HDCP 2.2 capable. Obviously, I want to hook up the BluRay to #3. How do I reassign the inputs????
I have an old tv which does not have HDMI but dont really wanna change it because the picture is still very good and nothing wrong with the tv. Im thinking about getting this av amp but just wondering if i i connect HDMI devices to this amp can they be outputted through the monitor out composite connection on this amp to my tv?
I am all set up for 5.1.2 with this receiver. I am playing atmos content from my ps4 through the receiver yet I am not getting any sound out of the 2 in ceiling atmos positioned speakers. What settings do I need to put it on to have them produce sound?
Sorry to bother again.. I was doing some research on the 636 and other models.. does the 636 have the hdmi problems.. losing signal.. flickering.. ect. Really like the look of the unit but don't want the problems
funny thing is my 727 just had a problem with the sound coming from my digital optical... seems like everybody was right about this line of onkyo... i just ordered a denon x2100w.. check out my other channel.. im new to youtube uploading so dont know how to switch all this.. its under josh parker
does it actually upscale 1080p to 4k at 60hz? i got the pioneer vsx-1028 and it does not upscale, when i got my 4ktv it was coming out 4k at 24hz it is garrrbage. that is not 4k and is not even viewable it chops lags skips its awful. this is on sale ends today i want to get it but need to know if its true 4k at 60hz upscaled? if it doesnt run 60hz its a massive waste of a machine and false advertising
***** cool i hope to get some more info. on sale again but i cant find solid info of it playing 4k@60hz. perhaps i should just wait it out see what 2015 brings
Got mine a few weeks ago loving it. The only difference that mine said it pushes 160 Watts/Channel. Don't know why the American version is rated at 115W/Channel. Btw this is kind of a stupid question, does the Main HDMI OUT support 4K as well other than HDCP 2.2? Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have 4 HDMI INs 4K-capable.
Mike Truesdale Yeah actually the TXNR636 is 160W/Channel into 6 Ohms as it was written on it when I got it. My only concern is on the "1 Channel Driven" part. Does that mean that if you use like 5 or 6 channels (like you're supposed to) the RMS Watts are going to drop from 160 to, say, 100 Watts per channel? I'm a bit confused. Though, I know that the best setup is to have speakers that have a nominal impedance (e.g. 8 Ohms) with an Amplifier / Receiver being rated at the same Impedance to gain optimal audio quality. I have two 8 Ohms front speakers with the TXNR636 which is rated at 6, so it's not the perfect setup but still good though.
where were you when I need to buy home theater I bought mine pioneer elite sc71 it say 4k pass through but when I bought nvidia shield using the hdmi through the receiver it only says 1080p recommend now I went and connected through the tv it gives me 4k this manufacturer need the explain In more detail. PS. great video
I have The 636, The firmware Atmos update, The onkyo skh410 Atmos speakers connected tot The height but no atmos sound, no atmos in my display en no atmos tot find in The settings. Annyone know what tot do???????
How much watts? onkyo says 160W per channel at 6 ohms, but that cant be true. because 7x 160W + electronics would be 1200W a transformer that could deliver so much, would be heavier than the avr itself. german audio magazine audiovision measured 72W per channel @ 8 ohms
Hey man...this is probably trivial but I can't figure this problem out and can't find the answer anywhere so thought I'd ask you. I had an audio guy come set up my home surround sound deal and he sold me one of these receivers. He paired my iPad to it and it worked fine. After he left I paired my iPhone to it and it worked/works fine but every since I paired my iPhone to it my iPad won't work. It is paired to it but it won't connect to it. It just says "Connection Unsuccessful" every time I attempt to connect my iPad. I've read that I need to turn one of the devices off so I do that every time...still nothing but at the same time both iPad and iPhone can be on at the same time and the phone will connect without any problem. Driving me crazy!!! Also...how do I stream Spotify? The wifi is set up but I don't know how to get to Spotify to turn it on...that's really the only reason I want to connect my iPad in the first place... Any help would be appreciated...thanks
hi my friend I've same model and I would like to ask you is it possible to play PS4 while I'm listening to music from different sources such as bluetooth?
does the wattage on the receiver (165w to each channel) does that wattage effect the wattage to the subwoofer.. i have 2 psw 505s and my buddy has them also.. his sound a little louder then mine
i have mine turned up to maybe 75% and have the crossover set at 70-80... iv heard people saying they only have theirs turned up to about 25%.. when i set mine there i can barley hear anything.. do i have something wrong
Does this unit allow you to successfully run your Xbox ONE though it? My older Denon doesn't, and I'm looking for a new system. Thank your for your time.
Okay. I kinda meant hooking it up though, i'm interested in it, but haven't seen a single person or video actually going through how to hook the speakers up to it. Never had an A/V receiver always used the TV sound.
you can never go wrong with more features. never know what the future holds. But the extra wattage really helps my speakers. haven't had any problems yet with my hdmi board.. fingers crossed
***** I was disappointed to see they removed VGA PC in, but a simple fix is to use the HDMI cable, but the NR1030 and NR3030's have them in there. The NR1030 and 3030's are basically the price of a new TV though. I have the NR636 running at home successfully with ARC communicating with my Sharp 4K UD27U series TV. Now all I need to do is link them, so that the TV native volume adjustment hud will only display the AV Receiver hud. I really wanted to retain the TV's direct out audio along with the AV Receiver audio out, but it's either one or the other. I was just a tad bit disappointed they removed the led halo around the volume knob too, but it's definitely not an issue at all.
***** Dj Alecio I am researching this fact right now, because I am considering buying this receiver, however I want to have a 7.2 set up for my TV, but 2 independent speakers for my PC sound when I want to listen to music. I am hoping you are wrong in what you are writing, because all other features with this receiver are amazing, and just what I need for the price. Reading the online manual, I found this (and for me, it makes sense) in one of the subsections for Speaker Configuration, and the Back channel, stating the Back channel would be set to "None" if one of the following conditions were true (this is one of them); "Speaker Settings" - "Powered Zone 2" is set to "Yes" and also Zone2 is set to on." In my understanding, this means that the receiver will protect its power supply, by reducing the power load if more than 7 speakers are turned on, by shutting down for zone 2. But if you have zone 2 turned off when using the main system, you should be able to have 7.2 surround, even with 2 speakers connected to the terminals of zone 2 (but not activated). Can anyone confirm this? =) Thanks!
Cardboard furniture, now THIS guy might have a problem LOL :D th-cam.com/video/oXOyFHYwbgw/w-d-xo.html Anton Jackon and In Living Color, CLASSIC! Great review by the way! I got mine this week, and I LOVE it!
Do you know what the "Out Sub" HDMI connection is for? I thought this was a subwoofer connection but I may be wrong.

Lol lol lol that all good is the company that is misleading information
how get Onkyo TX-NR636 4k 60hz not 30 hz thx
you have to use hdmi 2.0 cables and use the specific 4k60 port on the back of the receiver
Have any of you used the atmos yet? I'm going to get this reciver and I'm excited about that feature

Thanks for the super fast response!!
I'm subbing now!
Have you had any issues running your XBox One through this receiver yet? I can only run it at 720p for some reason.
I know it's probably late since this vid was a few months ago, but how hard is the setup for it?
Okay. I kinda meant hooking it up though, i'm interested in it, but haven't seen a single person or video actually going through how to hook the speakers up to it. Never had an A/V receiver always used the TV sound.
Moving on up from that old Onkyo we both had back in the days eh? Looks like some super good Poop!!
The 727 blows the 636 out of the water.. I personally could hear a difference. It has more features except dolby atmos.. which isn't an issue for me
you can never go wrong with more features. never know what the future holds. But the extra wattage really helps my speakers. haven't had any problems yet with my hdmi board.. fingers crossed
I'm planning on trading in my TX-NR609 in for this.
