I wonder how his mother could have married such a profiteer, knowing the assurance she gave her son meant she already knew what kind of bastard he was! (I would have spread these rumors “his wife has just died, and he takes his mistress and chases his son out of the house where they lived!”, that would have made the story even more suspicious!)
