Marian's a great player! Very clean and powerful hitting and lovely footwork--she isn't afraid to go for her shots and hope to see more of her on your channel. Winston you've improved a ton since training with Karue, love the initiative on getting to the ball early and taking opportunities to hit shots that build advantages in the point instead of backing up or waiting for the ball to come to you. Definitely great to see!👍
Yes. She really hits through the ball, which is more "old school" than today where many focus more on brushing up the back of the ball for spin (more loopy balls).
@@WinstonDu i noticed that she tried to get you off your rythym with those drop shots. She is know to hit those shots to throw off opponents. You were fast to counter on some cases. Good job! Fun watching it. More vids pls
That's probably the best tennis from you I've seen so far. The only thing that you run around your backhand way too much, even in situations you should definitely trust it. But, I guess, Karue have already pointed that out:) But the serve and forehand were great in this match, glad to see your significant progress.
Best video of 2023 in my book! Marian is a Beast! Her serve return is terrifying my gosh!! This was a really enjoyable vid! My favorite distinguishing factor between very good rec players and pros is footwork. There’s just a whole other level of efficiency and anticipation for pros. Am I the only one who ends up replaying points just to admire footwork sequences? 😂 great upload as usual Winston! Great to see you sitting on top of the baseline and swinging out a bit more than usual in this match!
Winston, I think your two handed backhand has improved a lot. Great job, and thanks for coming out to play, Marian. I am 5'4" so I always love watching women on the shorter side to get inspiration for my own game. You make tennis look so easy. 😊
Having recently gone back and watched some of your videos from a year ago, I can see a big improvement in your game. Marian can put some serious stank on her groundstrokes. It's nice to see a fellow Filipina getting a chance to showcase her skills. Great match!
Marian's such a great hitter. Amazing seeing you doing this Winston, really enjoyed seeing you smacking the ball with so much confidence. Honestly, very impressive man. thanks for the awesome content as always! Cheers! M
perhaps it's time to see Winston in a 5.0 tournament :) That's usually a better measure of where you stand. Very impressed by Marian's play and power; I know she's a pro but still amazing to see someone her height hit the ball that hard even on the serve.
Nice, close match! Marian is proof that sometimes big things come in small packages -- did not expect that serve and backhand coming from her! Love what you do, Winston, and really love how ego-free you are. 😎
I just discovered the fun of playing tennis about 6 months ago. I am 41 years old not so strong and not so tall Asian, and Marian just gave me hope that I can be better! Thank you for the video!
I've said this before, but footwork is the big difference between a good player and a great player. Those quick adjustment steps will help you control the strike zone more than anything else. Agassi is a perfect example. He was constantly moving his feet so he could hit the ball in the same spot every time. Winston, I enjoy watching you play. I really appreciate how you do your best to rise to every challenge without getting rattled. You don't beat yourself, which is huge.
It's interesting to watch short people serve. She had a very narrow margin for error and all her serves landed in the last 3 inches of the box. Very impressive. It does make me wonder if short people might have an advantage with ground strokes somehow (shorter distance from brain to hands, more low balls in the strike zone)?
I enjoyed watching this. Marian's backhand was great. Winston you are improving, hung in there until she just unleashed all hell in the last game. Awesome content. Want to see more of Marian playing.
A good drill for you to get accustomed to a faster game (especially returns) is to have someone with the basket standing on your side of the court ready to toss to you (from the doubles alley so he won't get hit, you'll see what I mean). You serve from the deuce side and right at your contact with the serve the tosser tosses a ball for you to hit...so when your eyes come down from serving to see the court the tossed ball is already in the air after bouncing right where you can hit it and you have to react quickly to do so. But try to not abbreviate your normal follow through/finish of your serve...you don't want the drill to change your serve mechanics. For getting used to faster reactions in rallies, you might want to concentrate on a slightly earlier unit turn than what has been required for the normal speed of play you're used to. An easy drill to practice this is to have a friend hold a ball behind his back, then he quickly brings the ball out in one of his hands and holds it up where you can see it. If it's his left hand, quickly unit turn to the forehand, right hand, unit turn to the backhand. Try to recognize which stroke to unit turn to as quickly as possible and also turn with with more urgency than usual. You don't necessarily want to play your matches with an unnaturally quick unit turn, but practicing an overcompensating drill will help get your brain to earlier recognize when to prepare for that 10.0 utr game she was playing. Finally, Marion was right about your forehand and serve...definitely higher skill level than your current rating. Getting used to quicker play and gaining more confidence in your backhand will help a lot. Earlier prep on the backhand will also help because at the moment is seemed to me you were trying to avoid hitting your backhand (which is fine when the forehand is the better shot), but having a fear of hitting the backhand altogether will naturally make you more tentative when you do have to hit it. But If you start reading the backhand earlier, and committing to the unit turn and to the shot itself, you will improve by consequence of the fact that you're actually more ready for the shot as compared to before when you literally are asking yourself "do I have to hit a backhand?" and waiting too long to get yourself positioned to hit a good shot. Maybe even work on a little more shape on the backhand, too, good net clearance and quality spin, to give you more depth and a higher margin for error, so that you can use your backhand as a consistent set up shot to get a short ball for your forehand. That's all I have to say about that.
Pintsize Marian groundstroke is powerful... shocked winston did so well with the returns. Winston unforced errors definitely gotten better and see definite improvement. Great match.
Marian has great racquet head speed. I felt she was going for a bit too much resulting in a lot of unforced errors. She maybe should have been more patient and set up the play before going for the kill. But Winston did GREAT!
It's a pleasure to watch Marian play, you can see how much power is generated from good form, and the variety of weapons she has, would even say her bh is more deadly. You can literally see Winston returns get better from the quality of shot Marian gives
Dude you've improved soooo much, i don't know if it's the karue effect but you're not the same player and these last few vids, and especially this one is your best match yet imo !
I normally don't comment here but what an improvement Winston! Keep it up. Your training with karue is paying off. Your not running around your forehand as much or backing up when you hit shots. We'll done!
Great content as always Winston. Your overall footwork, ball recognition, and playing with intent are vastly improved from just a few months back. Your ball toss and serve placement also looks way more comfortable and efficient. Keep up the great work and thanks Marian for helping with the great content. You are a great player.
Marian is a very good player! Good power from both sides, good serve and very dynamic around the court! I think she overdid it a bit on dropshots, but overall probably helped her... Winston played very well for him! Impressed with his forehand! Very entertaining match!
Ooo black widow strings are crazy good for spin!! I used to use them before switching back to RPM Blast, but honestly if Black Widow was more durable, I’d be sticking to them! Great vid as always!! ✊🏼 she has a canon of a backhand!! Sheeeshhhhh 🔥
I really enjoy the content. It is great to see the differences between a 4.5 and all other levels of players. The videos serve to educate as well on ways to improve your game to the next level. That being said Marian can hit the ball so hard. The video I am sure does not do it justice!
Your kick serve is kicking Winston. I really enjoyed her smart playing, dropshots, flicks, etc. I feel if she could trade some (tiny bit) of her ball speed with spin and net clearance, it would greatly reduce her unforced errors.
One thing I will point out for anyone wanting to watch and learn from Marian is her backhand. Watch how she puts her eyes on the ball, keeps her head still, uses a consistent stroke with every backhand, doesn't muscle it or push it, goes deep and cross-court, and has a fantastic follow-through which shows that she really trusts that stroke.
Man, the improvement on almost all of your shots is so noticeable; that’s hard to do! Are you working with a teaching pro besides the special series you’re doing with Karue?
Fun to watch, love how she's so aggressive, looking for lower percentage shots and taking them fearlessly and coming to the net as a shorter person always impresses me, as well as willing to drop so often. I'd recommend on those drops where he will get it, but not so much as to have great control, you have to charge him and make him find a way past you. It's tricky to judge when they will be in this limited option situation, but when you can spot it, immediately charge them and cut off the angles they will be left with. She does have some powerful strokes and if she's not been playing a lot recently, if her consistency just were to edge up a bit as expected from regular play, she would be tough to face with those angles near the alley lines!
You’re really improving Winston, improving like this and soon you’re going to be bumped to 5.0 Some things you could have done: On the run why don’t you try to shorten a little the backhand swing and cross deep on the left side of the opponent? That’s a nasty ball to receive. Also adding some offensive backhand slices can really disrupt the rhythm off the opponent and give a chance to net approach.
I feel like my boy Winnie can play much better, but he restrains his true power under some circumstances. In a couple of last videos I see the inside-out killer forehand that I didn't see previously in his game, and now he pulls it out like it's nothing, as well as a much more accurate backhand on the line and horizontal. Winston knows what he's doing
Hi Winston. I’m a big fan of your channel. Here are 3 unsolicited tips to take your game to the next level. 1) widen your stance a bit more so that your feet are wider than your shoulders as much as possible, 2) your knees are too bent, reduce the amount of knee bent so that when you finish a split step you return to a straighter knee position as that will help you react faster, 3) try to reduce the time your heels are on the court and your heels should not be touching the court by the time you strike the ball. These are things that you can monitor by watching yourself on video to monitor and adjust. Good luck!
Wow! Winston that is a massive level up! Marian slaps! Dude, you played so good. The serve stayed aggressive, the back hand was deep. You planted your weight much better on the bh. The movement was very solid. I think it surprised her in the beginning the level you were producing. That is definitely your ideal opponent, someone who hits flat and fast.
She’s way better than she thinks. I noticed when she starts each game 0-0. She consistently dominates the first 3 points usually. But then has trouble closing out, loosing that loose/no fear play. Once she masters that, she would have won this 8-2. Love the videos. Great job you two. Makin it look easy fir us.
Marian is freaking lethal with her groundstrokes. Terrifying pace and aggression.
