Can a dramatic baritone sing Handel? Cornell MacNeil in Samson: Honor and arms - 1969

- Another Handel rarity from Cornell MacNeil-but an old standard for basses and baritones, delivered here in a impressive, straightforward manner: firm pitch, even and precisely articulated (but *unaspirated*!) runs, springboard leaps, and strong declamatory accent.

This channel is primarily about vocal emission-aural examples of basically correct singing, correct impostazione-chiaroscuro, vowel clarity, firm and centered pitch, correct vibrato action, absence of throatiness or thickness, sounds free from constriction and from the acoustic noise that accompanies it-with occasional video examples that demonstrate what the body, face, mouth, jaw, and tongue look like when used with correct impostazione-the vocal emission of the one and only Italian school.
Caveat: I'm biased in favor of baritones and baritone literature, but if you want to learn about and listen to all the greatest singers in the old-school tradition, explore this spreadsheet (voice parts are separated by tabs): bit.ly/2W4qmE3 - เพลง
So wonderfully flexible for such a huge voice.
I wish MacNeil had recorded "Messiah." Would love to have heard his "The Trumpet Shall Sound" during his prime --
Well the trumpet would sure have sounded!
MacNeil's powerful voice lends perfectly to this piece, it's only fitting for a giant to sing a giant's song!
He should've performed "O ruddier than the cherry" as well. I can only imagine his low F's and those great low G's he had (he goes to a low G here in the "though I could end thee at a blow...")
Big voice that moves :D!
At the height of his career he was simply the best! Thank you for posting this!
Spectacular
I love yt and all the folks who post wonderful music and singers. I have never heard my father sing this piece?!? What a great surprise. Thank you!
Mr. Macneil is your father? You have good genes lol.
You can be very proud of your dad!
Wait you're MacNeil's son?
Very addictive to listen to. It's just so perfect and lovely ❤️️
Big Mac poteva declamare anche tutti i cognomi di una rubrica telefonica. Aveva una canna armonica esagerata.
