    Considering how rare Edsels are, I was sad to see so many of them in one derby

  • @Cyclone-od7ih
    @Cyclone-od7ih ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For everyone sad about it, this is just what derbies used to be. My dad has plenty of stories of old derbies full of mid 50s Bel Airs and such because back then, they were just scrap sedans.
    Makes you wonder what common derby cars today we'll be sad about in the future.

      I am thinking crown vic's they're slowly becoming less common.

      There aren’t any today. Nothing produced now will be a derby car in future. Sad to say but we’re in the last 30ish years of doing this. Already hard to find cars. 😞

      In 50 short years or so there wont be anything rare anymore. But you are right. My first derby as a kid, my dad was saying the same thing about all the 50's and 60's chevys and fords. Time marches on.

    That was back when you wanted a 64 Lincoln or something with a lot of steel in the front end of the car on an old Lincoln it was like 30" to the front bumper from the motor

      …sad to see the final fate of being demo derby smashed & trashed that ‘63 or ‘64 New Yorker T&C HT style wagon met …they were a low production rare ChryCorp model when new and that one likely was a very rare survivor to still exist in 2021 being so many of them likely never passed 15 - 20 - 25 year marks as they succumbed to being totaled in auto accidents, being driven hard and poorly / not maintained by indifferent 2nd & 3rd owners until engines, drivetrains & bodies were wore out or rusted out or ended up regardless of condition being gutted out and put in 1970’s, ‘80’s and 90’s demo derbies & destroyed or sent to junkyards to sit in mud & weeds until being crushed for scrap …T&C specific trim & body parts now being very scarce …@ :12 in this vid the New Yorker badging script is seen still in place …after having endured intact for 57 years it is now gone…was surprising to see so many Edsels being demo derby smashed & trashed in this vid …the genuinely most surprising car to be seen in this vid is what was either a ‘59 or ‘60 Continental MKV Limousine or TownCar ( tagged as 7X ) with the Hess & Eisenhardt custom conversion formal roof …these had padded & rounded roofs with a smaller rear window …only 127 in total were made of these 2 models in 1959 and only 170 Limousines & TownCars in total for 1960 model year …how a 61 or 62 years old very very rare factory custom roof body Continental MKV met a fate of ending up in a 2021 demo derby & being intently smashed & trashed defies rare & survivor car preservation common sense …What??? the demo derby driver guy couldn’t find a 1960’s Imperial LeBaron or 64 thru 1966 Imperial Crown Coupe to gut and demo derby & destroy ? …seeing that Continental MKV likely had it’ s interior mindlessly gutted before being mauled & wrecked must be a Blue Ribbon A1 example of some the worst manifested rare survivor car ignorance…

    Its bad to see old iron like this get destroyed when some of them could've been restored. Wish there was all-SUV and Crossover derbies in the future. I can't stand all those crap poser SUVs littering the roads these days. I know they can take hard hits because a buddy of mines ran a 2010 Kia Sorento over the summer at a derby and it held up well against the Durangos and Explorers!

    Wonder if they sold any of the usable parts after they made them demo cars? I'm guessing there is at least one guy bragging he bought a 492 original mile car off an old lady and making it a demo car.

    • @teamunderbuiltracing9340
      @teamunderbuiltracing9340 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alot of us sell the parts off the car before its derbied. And 95% of us take cars that are to far gone to be put back on the road. Now yes there are guys out there that take super nice cars off the road but most of us take cars that have been sitting in fields and junkyards I just bought a 77 dodge aspen from a junkyard and sold all the trim and bumpers off it to a car that could actually use them

      Right. Old iron lot of people don't have the money to restore though so I say smash em' up. Derby's have been in my family since the early 70's & still goin strong today. Many great friendships were made it's like a huge family such an awesome experience. You do it once & it's in your blood always will be plus watching it get passed on through the generations is great to see. So I say way to go boyz hell of a run, great show, keep it rollin , keep the sport alive, awesome entertainment. Keep on keepin on smashin em' up!!!
