Finally got around to watch this, seeing it be an hour long scared me into putting it on my watch later list, but I'm glad I got around to watching it. Very cool & informative.
The issue is not about spending modest amts on asteroid studies but spending tremendous amts on Mars/venus explorations or births/deaths of universe/s, which are at best just of academic interest.
After bagging the asteroid and putting it in a orbit around the moon also taking a sample, what will you do with the asteroid? Also which solar electric propulsion would you use, will it be VASIMR or a different solar electric propulsion? Thank you.

Thank you guys so much!!! I am almost done only 18 pages left to go but I'm in a small predicament I have to use credible sources for MLA format and in text citations. I would just like to know if these sources are a good case study from your opinions and much appreciated.
Hello! I have a question on asteroid catching- how would you avoid the asteroid crashing into the moon once in orbit or slingshotting away from the moon- the asteroids are moving at a very great velocity and is it possible for the moon's gravity to capture these?
Very interesting hangout; weird question: could a VERY small asteroid help to change global warming and initiate rebalancing of the earth's atmosphere/ temperature?
I'm sure we could form an atmosphere on suitable inhabitable planets, moons, etc. chemically. It may take time, but hopefully we have it. I know that if we don't have the tech yet, we will.
oh you guys, you are aware of something called solar wind? its the charged particles from the sun and if body does not have a magnetic field (like mars and the moon) it will slowly strip away the atmosphere witch is why mars has a thin atmosphere and why the moon may as well not have one (it does but its super super thin and is mainly spent rocket fuel)
Which* Lol I am perfectly aware of solar wind, but it's still a process worth trying if we're going to colonize. We probably won't see it in our lifetime, but now is time to start thinking about these things
okay, so even if you could make something that's capable of making a magnetic field around the moon to protect you and the atmosphere I'm not sure if there is enough gravity to keep enough air on the moon to be worth it, perhaps on mars we could do it one day or maybe reducing the air on Venus and cool it down a bunch, now that would be epic but again I doubt we could do such a thing on the moon, or would ever do it on moons because of the low cost to reward value, its different with planets though, I'm guessing not in my lifetime though =P still a interesting idea
Space! Let's explore it together! Looking forward to the hangout, DNews & *****!
Thank you to both JPL and DNews for bringing this to us! Please keep hosting hangouts like these in the future. Trace, you're a great host!
It said no viewers... Then I clicked and this happened xD
Oh well, this'll be 1 am for me at some point in 6 days
Amy Mainzer is like Kate Winslet, and Angelina Jolie in one... Both of whom are amazingly beautiful.
MY FARTS SMELL LIKE STRAWBERRIES
now enjoy the smoothie
GO JPL YOU GUYS ARE THE BADASSES OF SCIENCE/ENGINEERING
Awesome hangout. Thanks Trace!
Dr. Amy Mainzer is so Jodie Foster in Contact. I love her.
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you for uploading!
Excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to intern at NASA!

i am NOT going to waste my life on a 1 hour interview video
thank you for the intelligent conversation...I learned some new things....
Hng This is awesome!
This is so cool!
I would want Dr Mainzer to examine my asteroids, if I had any.
thank you

U stand by... I'm moving to the next video
I hope I remember to watch this DX
I hope you remembered to watch this.
guncluts NOOOOOO!
Look at Trace, he's so excited xD
YAY!

I think Trace might be in love with Dr. Amy. I completely get it...
i guess im calling in sick for a while
Dr Amy Mainzer is one of the smartest woman out there and she's beautiful.
reminds me of "Green Mars"!
Eye hart U Don!
countdown to the end of the world....
ah crap now the crazies from the conspiracy channels are gonna think I'm serious =/
This is what the mayas thought
Can you give me a couple links to a channel like that. I'm asking because its for psychology. Thx
Kristopher Leitzinger Infowars are pretty crazy. "Stuff they don't want you to know" takes a close look at conspiracies.

nothing like getting tipped and then lay on the beach and watch the heavens - I did it a couple times after Skylab manned missions.

only 3 day 14 hours 28 mins and 54 seconds to go I can almost taste it
this is so cool and only 300 people wathcing :(
oh yea. please stand by for 6 hours. I could go to bed, wake up for school and still reach the start.
*6 days
I ain't watching this shit.
how are the metallic meteorites formed? are they like one big piece of metal?
What would you do if you found hard evidence of alien life?
shit bricks.
maybe for once I won't have extreme lag and everything will work out just fine... not holding breath.....

NEO CAM? Ground Control 2 Major Tom!

We have the tech, releasing homemade air from plants/animals on the moon bit by bit it will definitely take a long time
Yes, exactly. I'm glad somebody got my point. It'd be nice if we could find a way to put our excess CO2 to good use in that process as well.

I am going to have to wait until Mid Night for this. Not cool DNews.
thats 5 days xD
Oh. Now I feel dumb.

Why does Amy sound like every robot voice ever?
var1328 Wow, 11 months later, cool!
so..........Aliens?
That don guy sounds like Leonard nemoy
so this is in 6 days...?
yup!
yes
I seem to always live in the wrong timezone.
i hate google+!
What would your plan be if you found out if a massive asteroid was on its way to Earth? (Massive enough to kill humanity)
Hai first livestream
Let's ask em about aliens Kappa
in my time zone, this will start 2 AM, so NOPE.
But the time wont change, will it?
if we jump 6 days in time, the time on the clock would be the same...
what we have to wait 6 days!?
6 days left....
Don't spend money on wold hunger, science come firs!
:D its at 9pm for me or 9am math skillz ftw -_- but thats on us day im guessn so i must add 1 more day D:
I think Ian O'neil is cute ;D
What would your plan be if you found foreign microorganisms on an asteroid?
What are the other types of asteroids? #spaceout
Finir
oww :( by the time it starts the internet in my school will turn off :( (and yes I mean in 6 days... duh)
woo
Why can't NASA find the Earths twin yet?
Potatoes :)
No, bananas
So poor sound quality :O
Hi
OOOOH
How often do people watch porn on that huge screen behind you?
Hey

Nope, days.
Tidusune SO MUCH BETTER
Remyrezable :D
Can you see my comment................ I wonder...............
i can, but not sure about Trace :/
Bye
Please tell me we're going to be able to have solar powered jetman packs in my lifetime, I'm not good at this oobe shit.
Is trace gay?
Is is just me, or does Amy speak like Jodie Foster? Plus she is HOT! +1 for hot science chicks!
