It's been a while since you have done this longer format. I enjoy it because we are able to see what you look for between the pictures. Obviously, we all have different tastes but having a reference is good to help make the choices. Thanks.
Dude, I'm right now struggling deciding which photos to enter to a competition and this video showed up in my algorythm. I'm again scared of the simulation xD
Thanks so much for doing this video, it's so valuable to hear someone else's thought process of how you edit and not try to compress into 10 minutes with a top 5 things you should do, they have their place but these are equally important. Great Job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Jared, I do this same process. Like you after the first pass, I leave it for a few days or even weeks and revisit the entire shoot and I always find more keepers in that second pass, than I did during the first pass.
Jared, this came right on time. I’m going to Tanzania next month for my first safari. I don’t have anything longer than 200mm, so I already know that I’ll be going for vastness and storytelling. Just like with your beautiful images, I want to showcase the safari experience. I’m going to make it work, lol. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for sharing your photos! You are an amazing photographer as well as an excellent teacher! Up till now, I’ve only seen your reviews on gear and cameras and lenses. And yes because of you I’ve actually gone out and purchased quite a few things! Lol. Your Lightroom filters are next on my list of things to buy!
Love this video. I don't delete either unless out of focus or if the exposure is bad. And I love the one where she's on top of the hill looking at the vehicle like there was quite a few meals in it for her and her cubs. lol
I shoot sports and I take 1000-2000 pics per game. I just can't store them all. I will typically delete from the same scene after I've selected one or two. For example, if someone is pitching, I know the 6 positions I want to get and will keep a couple more if I'm on the fence. I remove about 50-75% of the shoot that way. For pics of my own kids I will usually keep all of them unless the flash didn't go off or they are horribly out of focus. I'm also perfectly fine using Topaz Labs Sharpen app and cropping like a madman.
We did Botswana in April and the two of us took 24,000 images because you just never know which one is going to be the money shot. Should’ve taken more video too. you’re right I’m still going through them and finding new things. Friends and family are getting impatient to see my stuff, but I’m having trouble whittling it down to a manageable amount of favorites to show them because I have so many favorites. It’s tough.
I like photo mechanic to do my main cull, then bring smaller amount into light room, i find that is fast and works well. Do you ever use photo mechanic? Or cull in lighrroom only
Not a good video, a great video! It's amazing to see the process, how you are looking throughout the frame to find things that work and don't. As for the one you debated, I think the head turned, looking away is a little better, just because it makes you wonder what she sees off in the distance. At what point during the trip did you start using the camera on the monopod upside down with the Canon app to trigger?
Yea. Being outside and taking photo is so much fun. Then come the part I hate most is back home and unloading all the raw photo into lightroom and select what we want and then edit them. Man so much time needed. I dont like to sit infront the screen more than being outside. But jpeg isnt good enough and this is alll part of the whole experience.
@@froknowsphoto I found quite a few shots too centered for my liking. That's it. I do understand the limitations of shooting on a safari. I also know you don't crop. Lastly, aesthetics are subjective. If you like what you shot, you simply like it. That's it my friend.
I shot a bridal shower 6 weeks ago started with 2106 photos. Shot on burst mode, after getting rid of the many shots of blinking, AF misbehaving, & occasional motion blur or people walking infront of me. I wound up trashing half with 1,057 pics it was so tedious
I recently did a photo shoot of fox cubs, I deleted good photos. When shooting at 20 pictures/sec I didn't see the reason to save all, they look like duplicates.. Maybe I did the mistake to holding on the trigger button to long :)
i edit only the keepers…but then I keep every photo on my cards, i don’t re-use cards, just in case I ever want to go back and edit the ones I didn’t think were “keepers”, later on…
Like the content, but man you really oversaturate your pics like crazy to whete it makes the photo feel cheap and not as professional. Imho. But hey, thats your taste and to each their own.
Thanks for the sanity check. I'm not a professional at all, but this is basically exactly what I do every time. I don't really have any photographer friends to chat about this stuff with, so if this is the way you do it, then I must be on to something. Thanks for making me feel better today! PS- Oh, and great MIB reference! Hilarious
I see the value of your video for the process but your edits are way too saturated for wildlife. And you’re missing the point about the 600 versus the 400. If you back the vehicle up you can get the cat more “eye level”. Most of your shots you are shooting down on her. You should’ve asked me for safari mentorship.
It’s about picking what ones best… not nowadays. All the cool cats are shooting film now. Mckinnon, shortstache et al.. are you even a photographer if your not shooting film?
I’m being sarcastic but all these instagram/youtubers would lead you to believe that you’re only a true photographer if you’re using film. Watch the film with McKinnon and stache.

Really miss this type of content from you Man....Good stuff! Keep it coming....
this was a FANTASIC video!! Thank you, Jared!!
Much appreciated video. I've been looking for something like this that wasn't made 10 years ago.
Great to see the process. Thanks for another really good film.
What an eye opening. The settings were my setback. Beautiful photos. Im still thinking about your presets!
Jared, just downloaded all your Fropacks and they are simply amazing! Thanks for all your work on creating these.
Thank you, enjoy!

i've never used it but know sports shooters all do
Good video.. Appreciate you share this to us
What are you doing with the picks? Staring or flagging?
this is so relatable with my wildlife photography 😊😊
also, are you shooting with negative exposure compensation? Looks a little dark? a bit surprising for r3.
@@Alex-iu8xx I don't shoot with any exposure compensation. I don;t touch exposure comp.
@@froknowsphoto OK awesome thanks for letting me know.
I would love to see your editing process from raw file to finished edit!
I think that would make a great video!
It will be in the next video guide I sell
Great video Jared!!!! Greetings from Argentina.
I am from Kenya and I love the video👍
Great info! Thanks!
Besides, I really like what you do for "Us”.
when i have the funds, i would absolutely love to do the mentorship…because i love your channel and your videos have helped me alot

With that gear, easy to make stunning photos.

So, it's not easy not deleting pics. I also don't unless they are completely unusable. Do you use a NAS??
I would like a video on camera math I struggle with that
I simply don't have the storage capacity to keep all raw shots. How would you recommend setting up storage? What do you use?
we have synology NAS storage for servers.
Filmed with rf lenses… does this mean you got your hands on a r1 or r5ii?
Hehehe good thinking
Ooo good point its probably there way of showing us before they can!!
100% right
No, still filmed on R5 w/ RF 50 1.2. Nothing new here. Wish we had the R1 & rumored R5 Mark II though…
@@froknowsphotofingers crossed for you! Soon hopefully

You never delete files, how much storage space do you have?
For a conservancy, is the 70-200mm more than enough or should I go with a 100-400mm?
100-400 is more versatile.
15:28 photo #211 is AMAZING
How did you skip that?!

Lightroom

Awesome sho
WOW
How many camera bodies did you take on this trip?
2 Canon R3 and took Sony a9 III to test as it wasn't even out yet. But normally it would be two.
SMASH that Like button!
Has anyone had the same problem Canon 1dx ii shooting on Manual why when I put the F stop ie to F8 I get a lesser frame rate ?
Those are all great photos, but I can't help but feel that you are throwing too much saturation in editing. Kinda makes them look fake.
Any reason why exposiof these photos is a bit low?
i edit only the keepers…but then I keep every photo on my cards, i don’t re-use cards, just in case I ever want to go back and edit the ones I didn’t think were “keepers”, later on…
As long as you're not talking 10 years cause sd cards aren't designed for long term storage
I select the images on my cameras rear lcd because my pc cant handle opening them
Then i bring them one for one into lightroom
Terrible process. Get a better Pc

You save ALL your photos, in duplicate, in RAW?! What if the entire photo is out of focus, poorly framed, etc?
I saw the skittles configs
To much DOF. Three was a lot of space there, so you didn't have to use the „full hole”. As a result, some animals are not fully sharp.
fine with me
Didnt you mean not enough DOF?
