      @brentford4348 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry if I missed it, but what size screen did you go with? I'm really wanting to go with a 16:9 ratio to also use for watching football and movies and I want to be able to fill the entire screen, but not sure I want to go that wide. Great info... love your channel!

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brentford4348 my screen is a 8x14, which is a 16:9. However, the corner protection threw my aspect ratio out of wack. It’s something to keep in mind to make sure you keep a workable aspect ratio for sports and the like. I think you need to discuss this with whomever you work with to make sure you understand the final viewable screen dimensions.

      @toddfriedman8716 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGolfNerd - how wide and tall should the screen be to have 14X 8 viewable area for the screen? Setup is great. Congratulations! Two other questions from your build- you mention that wooden dowels are needed inside the corners. I didn't understand that. Do you have a picture of what you meant? Can you take a picture of the back of the screen so I can see how it attaches to the conduit. Did you use conduit clips or did you have rivets built into the screen. Any chance i can email you?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@toddfriedman8716 absolutely you can email me. The email address is available on my “About” page on TH-cam website (pc version) or skip that and just copy this: the.golf.need.email@gmail.com
      I probably didn’t explain the dowel very well. It’s not in the corners, it’s in the joining pieces for the 14’ length of EMT. In other words, you can only get EMT in 10’ lengths, so you have to join a 10’ and 4’ section with a coupling. You place a dowel at this point as it creates a weak point. It helps stabilize the joint. Hopefully that’s clear!
      The screen does have grommets sown in and attaches to the EMT via ball bungees supplied by Bullseye. Hopefully I answered your questions and thanks for the feedback!!

    Thanks for the videos. Enjoying them very much. Was wondering what your thoughts were for overhead lighting. I’m building a 30 x 30 dedicated addition for the simulator and movie area with the grandkids. So thinking dimmable pot lights on the side, a spot directly over the hitting area and maybe some brighter lights in the peak. Yeah - I’ve gone a bit crazy from the single bay in my garage. I have an understanding wife…

As far as lighting, I’m afraid my setup was to eliminate as much lighting as possible and I don’t have any experience or recommendations for lighting solutions. I’m sorry I can’t be more help. Perhaps the supplier of the enclosure you are going with can make some recommendations.

    awesome stuff! I'm going with a 8x14 screen as well and was undecided on the projector. You may have helped me make a decision on that one! Was hesitant about the 3000 Lumens, but I must say it looks terrific.
    Question: How far back are you when you hit? I'm planning on 8-9 ft.
    I'd love to see some video of some shots. Will check out your other videos to see if you have some examples of play. Thanks for the time you put into this! And yes... I liked and subscribed :)

      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well first off, thanks for the sub! Hope you find some of the other videos helpful! Congrats on the build, having a sim is something I never regret investing in building! As far as the BenQ, it is a great projector, but ambient light can cause issues given the lumens so plan accordingly. The other issue is a lack of four corner adjustment, so take time getting your projector mounted as well as possible to avoid complicated setups. With regards to hitting position, I hit from 11'. I honestly think 10' is the minimum, otherwise, it feels too close to the screen, but I recognize this as a personal preference. Good luck and see some of the other videos for additional tips while building your sim. Thanks for the feedback and the question!!!

      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the nice comment!! The EVA Foam link is amzn.to/47DyQpU
      Curtains link: amzn.to/3H7EAMZ
      These curtains are great for blocking out light and will knock down a weak off line shot, but they shouldn’t be used as the side of an enclosure. I recommend using a kit from a supplier for the actual enclosure, my preference is Bullseye Golf Sims. Absolutely. I’ve just been dragging my feet because you only get one chance and I wanted to make sure I had it setup the way I wanted it. I’m just about to commit after a couple weeks of using it. As far as dimensions, I think they can supply whatever size you need, but if you generate some scrap they can’t sell the cost per square foot will probably increase. Thank you so much for the nice comment! I didn’t have any trouble with my cable, but I used an active cable. We built a new house a couple years ago and I ran these through all the walls. I have had a lot of success on very long runs. I suspect what you may have happening is loss of signal due to cable length. I’m about to install this same flooring. Did you tape the rubber tiles down to the concrete? Also, in a more recent video you installed the hitting insert. Did you tape it down to the concrete? This is probably common sense to most but not I’m not very handy and your videos on building your sim have helped a lot. I would’ve never even heard of this company if I hadn’t ran across your channel. So thanks for that!

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not tape my foam tiles down. Once they are down they are heavy enough it feels really solid. I didn’t even tape down my putting turf. It would probably sit a little better if the turf was tensioned and taped, but I’ve never laid carpet before and skipped this step! It looks completely fine to me and hasn’t moved after several months of use. I also haven’t taped down my hitting strip, but out of all of these considerations, that’s the one I would recommend using double sided carpet tape to secure. I don’t have any issues, but it will sit a little flatter if it is held down with tape. Let me know if I can help further!! Thanks for the question!!!

    Hello
    Awesome setup! I’m in the process of building a simulator in my garage with these exact screen dimensions (14’x8’) and projector. If I remember right that projector needs to be placed somewhere around 12 to 13 feet from the screen to fill the screen dimensions. My question for you is do you cast a shadow on the screen from your hitting position? How far away from the screen are you teeing up? I am maxed out at about 8ft from screen. Do you think I will cast a shadow? Can you test that on your setup for me? I’d appreciate it.

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback and the question!! Unfortunately I am hitting from 11.5’. I checked my setup and from 8’ I would cast a shadow about 1/4 of the way up the screen and I am 5’8” standing on a 1 1/2” high mat. So essentially like I’m 5’9”.

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have but it is very minor now. I find most of the issues are due to sources of interference and ball placement for different types of shots. Thank you so much!! I wouldn’t say it’s difficult but it does require some homework and a leap of faith! I found projector central website very helpful. They have a calculator there that helps you to determine throw distance based on screen size and mounting height. I think the biggest question is do you want the projector in front of the golfer, above the golfer or behind the golfer. This is where it gets tricky. • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got an 8x14 in the video which is true 16:9. However, in your situation, you have to account for an additional 6” in the overall width of the enclosure relative to the screen size, at least this is the case with Bullseye Golf and other manufacturers may be different. So the best you can do is a screen that would measure 13.5’ in width. So that would be 13.5W and 7.6H.

      Congrats on the new enclosure!! As far as filling the screen, it’s mostly controlled by the distance of the projector from the screen. You have to fill from top to bottom and then you can adjust the width via the GPU software on a pc if you are running a screen size other than 16:9. In the video about choosing a projector, I go through the process of using a calculator to determine the correct distance. Thanks for the question!!!

    • @TheGolfNerd

      That is the eva foam. I had 16’ of width of eva foam, but only 15’ of turf width. So I’ve got roughly 1’ of eva foam showing on the right. The eva foam by itself is not as much of a trip hazard, and has a nice clean edge. This is why I didn’t trim it. Thanks for the question!!

    I noticed your baement ceiling isn't insulated. How do you stop the noise of hit golf balls pinging throughout the house? I'm guessing this is a problem with all indoor simulators but I never see it mentioned.

    How you noticed any issues with the mevo+ since adding in the projector or maybe the tv you have as a second monitor? I’ve heard other devices in the field can mess up the readings, so I’m wondering what the experience is like for you. Love the build

      I would add, the tv was essentially in the field of view before. I’m thinking it’s the projector, but there’s a couple other potential variables as well.

      @@TheGolfNerd I just watched a video about someone with a Garmin R-10 that started getting frequent misreads as soon as he started using a projector. When he turns the projector off, the R10 works fine. The solution was to build a Faraday cage around the projector which blocks any electromagnetic interference it is emitting.

      @@TheGolfNerd I’ve read a few other posts about Garmin R10s getting interference from things like heat pumps and AC units. It seems like it is the fan inside the units that is the source of the issue. Again, the solution is building a metal 1 mm mesh shield between the unit and the radar. Maybe it is the cooling fan inside the projector that is messing with the doppler radar of your Mevo +. So overall are you happy with the Mevo+? I’m trying to decide between this or the Skytrak. I like how the Mevo has the option of the Pro add on, and easy switching with my lefty little boy, but this interference issue with a projector is giving me pause. On the other hand, I read a lot of posts of people with Skytraks that end up wanting to upgrade to Bushell’s monitor., so they can’t be totally happy with it.

    Hi: I will be building a similar setup. My ceiling height is 104”, width is 15’ and my budget is similar. If you were to start fresh, what specs would the build the gaming pc to?

    • @TheGolfNerd
      @TheGolfNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If my budget weren’t a concern I’d go with an Nvidia 3080. Not necessarily the ti model. A lot of folks report this card handles everything you throw at it. If your budget won’t stretch that far I think the 6700xt does a good job for its price bracket. Just know that future enhancements may require an upgrade, but hopefully by then, GPU’s have become affordable again!! Thanks for the question, and thanks for the subscription!!

      From the top of the heading back to the bottom of the floor joists, it is 104 inches. The total cost for somewhere between eight and $9000 for the launch monitor putting turf hitting mats flooring enclosure projector and some miscellaneous odds and ends.
