I find it interesting how Super Mario Bros. 3 was released 32 years ago yet it is still so iconic for the Mario brand that animations about it can still break a million views today.

There are actually a few levels where you can die if you fly too high with the P-Wing, at the hand traps in world 8, and I think it's because there is a wrap around that makes you appear below and touch the lava.
