Thanks for the encouragement. I had the exact same problem with my strawberries. I live in a hot climate. When temps went over 100° 🥵 everything changed. First time gardener so it’s good experience.
Thanks Kim. I just went and began beans and radishes. 😊Squash struggled. Slicer tomato struggled. Kudzu beetles took out my grapes. However, ground cherries grew, cherry tomatoes are out of control, and bush cucumbers are hanging in there. I was going to skip fall and just let what I had exist. You got me back in the garden! Thanks 🎉❤
Those grapes will make wonderful juice! Seeds and all. I used a steam juicer for the first time last fall and it was so easy. I can't wait for this year's concord grape harvest.
I just came across your video. I don't think I'll garden during the summer anymore. The heat and bugs are awful here in NC. I guess I'll need a tutor for my green stalk. I wish mine looked like yours. I had a great grape harvest. Mine have seeds, so I juice them. The juice is delicious. My daughter drinks it in a nice glass. Sipping. Lol!! I'm tired. I never get many squash or zucchini before the bugs get them. Hopefully, the fall will be better.
Great motivational word! Got 2 new 4 legged fur babies and this is a huge lesson to learn in addition to all the stuff you said. Gotta teach them to stop picking strawberries, eating random leaves & digging for fish emulsion & bone meal. And for the life of me I CANNOT figure out why my greenstalks keep going hydrophobic. I water daily & spray the individual pockets.
I was hoping for cucumbers for pickles--I have gotten 5 cucumbers. Will hang in there--maybe they will turn around if the weather cools down if the plants survive. Thanks for the pep talk!
Thank you so very much. This is my first year and I have made lots of mistakes. I planted lots of different peppers, hot, sweet, and bell peppers but only 3 of one of the hot varieties is growing 😢. Your advice came right on time because I was giving up. Thank you Ms. Kim.❤I appreciate your kindness.
You also had a horn worm for the first time this year. In addition to the rabbit....your local wild kingdom might be getting hip to your luscious veggies.😄
This was just the message I needed! It’s been in the high 90’s with 97% humidity here in Tn. I needed this motivation to get back out in the heat and at least do something easy. Thanks for the timely pep talk!
Thank you for all of your encouragement. I enjoyed your video so much, and boy can I relate :) I always pray over my little garden and thank God for every success and pray that next time is better for the things that did not do so well. I never feel like quitting (well most of the time:)
Kim, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and being so encouraging to all of us! You are so loved and appreciated by all of us -- your 'groupies' ☺ !!!!!!
Yep, I’m feelin’ ya neighbor!!! Same here in SW PA. The weather… cucumber beetles… cabbage worms (eww)… and most recently some vine borer took out my squash. Kale, tomatoes and peppers going crazy! Canned Candied Jalapeños yesterday! 🎉
Why is GreenStalk so addictive? LOL So I bought two spinners since they were on sale this week and they sent me a free magazine. I'm thumbing through it and yell "KIM!" as if we're on a first name basis. LOL What a wonderful feature done on you and your TH-cam channel. Congratulations! Sorry if this is old news. It's new news to me.
The pests were horrible this year in zone 6b. I was just beginning to get some amazing harvests, then ALL the bugs invaded my garden and killed off everything within a week. But your videos get me excited to look forward to a fall crop and succession plants. Thanks Kim! You're the BEST!
Thank you for the encouragement to keep going. I've had some crops that have done well and others, not so much. I'm strictly a container/green stalk gardener. I was beginning to tire of trying to manage the powdery mildew and other fungal issues. The bottom line is gratitude for the things that have been harvested, eaten or preserved. 😀
I love your no nonsense approach, Kim! You’re very motivational and you’re very matter-of-fact of the way you talk about the challenges of gardening which I think is very nice. I love the variety of things you grow and your honest comments on what you think of those different, growing methods, like your potatoes in a bucket bag or raised bed. I would like to hear more about how you try to winterize your garden and what you do to prevent pests coming back again the next year. I love seeing you and your girls out in the garden, it’s kind of a lost art and I just wish it was common again like it used to be. I’ve moved to North Carolina and I’m hoping to start this fall and look forward to next year when I can get an early start.
You are the best motivational speaker I’ve ever heard! You talk to me and my heart! Even though Debby (tropical storm/depression/whatever) is coming to visit for the next couple of days I’m going to go out and plant more green beans and other things! I WON’T give up! You’re more of a good friend to us than you think! THANK YOU for always being here for us! I can’t imagine not seeing you on TH-cam! I’d miss you horribly! You always teach me and give me hope! ❤❤❤
Love it Kim!!! I’m so novice that,😮 while some things haven’t done well (my strawberries, ugh) other crops have caused me to jump up and down with surprising joy. With you sharing things that have not gone as expected, I’m so encouraged! Keep your vids coming!! ❤️❤️❤️
I really needed to hear this. I'm a 1st time gardener and was bummed about my potatoes failing & barely any strawberries. Have to remember I've gotten plenty of tomatoes, callaloo & basil. Fingers crossed w/my sweet potatoes. Thanks so much!
I needed this I have squash bugs for the first time and they are awful but other things look great. Thanks for reminding me about the positives. Appreciate it!!
Kim thank you for this video. Really hit home for me. I live in Florida as a new gardener. it’s been rough with the pest destroying my squash, cucumbers and beans and strange cats hanging around. I was discouraged and grateful at the same time. I’m so grateful that the okra and peppers are producing. I like your message because it confirmed the way I am learning to appreciate and be grateful for the good in this gardening journey.
I too live in FL. Been gardening since 2019. This has been my worst year yet. Same goes for all of the gardeners I know as well. From the heat, to the dry conditions, to the pests, I have not harvested a quarter of what I'm used to so far this year. Fortunately, we can garden all year round in FL. Last year I grew so much food from August- January. We still have plenty of time left this year to start second waves of most crops. Like Kim said, "hang in there!!" Start planning the fall/winter garden. That will be where us FL gardeners shine this year.
Coyote urine attractant will get rid of groundhogs. Just a few squirts and they will leave. I use Irish spring soap around my garden and the rabbit and squirrels are staying away.
Thank you for the encouragement and reminders. Last year I had voles so bad I lost everything. I thought I would never have a garden again. But a few months ago I found you and saw your greenstalks. It gave me hope. I started with one and now I have 4. There was a learning curve, but worth hanging in there. The heat has been crazy in 7b this year, but I keep going. I didn’t have the garden I wanted to have this year, but I have a garden I didn’t think I was going to have last year.
Thank you so much for the encouragement, I started my garden in Zone 8b and nothing has really grown, I've really wanted to just quit. This has motivated me to keep watering and fertilizing and maybe I can get something before the frost hits in Nov.
Thanks for the encouragement, Kim. When you overwinter your strawberry GreenStalks, do you just leave them out in the garden? I know you brought your pepper GS into your grow tent, but what would you do if you didn’t have a grow tent? I’m learning so much from you, and I appreciate you so much!
Hi Kim my first time on your channel your garden is beautiful...I'm having some of the same problem in garden too but I'm not giving up..New subscribe here ❤.

Yes! I made the magazine this year 😊. I was so excited when they reached out to me back last winter.
