    I feel like I'm gonna cry because I just realized that I grew up with this channel in 2016 I used to turn on this channel to help me with my math homework in high school to 2019 for my SAT and now I study medicine and use it to help me with biology class, whoever runs this channel, İ appreciate your work and I wish you the best, thank you so much, sir.

    Dude, I used your channel religiously back in 2017 for GenChem. Now I am back in 2019 for Physical chemistry, brushing up on old topics. I just want to say it makes me so happy to see you at over 1 million subscribers. The growth over the past 2 years has been insane!

    3:17 ".. but in glucose, it is pointing down". On the drawing, the right side of glucose is pointing down, and on the galactose is not. Is that the other difference they have in 3D?

    Is the The difference between glucose and galactose supposed to be at c-4 alone???
    But it seems to be different at c-1 as well

    When you start with an innocent trivia question about sugars among friends,
    ( no cheating with phones) and afterwards end up wanting to learn more,
    you realize that no one in the spontaneous discussion you had the night before,
    including yourself, knew what the old heck we were talking about.
    Thanks, smart people, for being there.

    What about the hydroxyl group on C-1 of galactose? Is it a beta group as opposed to alpha in the structure of glucose? What I mean is, glucose and galactose differ each other by not only C-4 but also C-1. Is it correct?

    • @trumpesss7827
      @trumpesss7827 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You don't include the carbonyl carbon (C1). He's showing glucose as alpha so the OH is down.

    at 4:07, I thought galactose only differ at carbon 4, but why is carbon 1 also different?

    • @QurratulainAttiq
      @QurratulainAttiq 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because glucose has two forms i.e alpha and beta. In beta form, OH group is upwards and in the alpha form, OH group is downwards, on carbon 1. The structure in the video is alpha glucose but if we take beta glucose then the carbon 1 atom of glucose will be same as galactose. Thus, the only difference between glucose and galactose in beta glucose is in Carbon 4. I think it's either a debate whether alpha or beta is correct OR glucose comes in two forms. That's why we don't think about alpha glucose being too different and just ignore it.

    Glucose and galactose: the -OH groups attached to C1 point different directions

    • @amaduulia8921
      @amaduulia8921 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glucose has two forms. Alpha -glucose and Beta-glucose, depending on the position of the OH at C1. Down=Alpha. Up=Beta. So it is still glucose when you consider C1. The emphasis is at C4; where the position of the OH determines where it is glucose or galactose.

    I just checked my text... It is at carbon 4.. (main difference between glucose and galactose for anybody reading)... I'm sorry you're awesome, but you are inverted at carbon 1) I'm not sure if you made a correction on a later video but might want to fix this somehow. I'm a science dork not a tech dork. YOU'RE AWESOME btw😎

      c6h12o6 is the original chemical equation for glucose, tho im not sure why oxygen differed by 2, maybe coz of isotopes?
