    I know a guy in New York who was a bass student of Percy Jones. When Mick came to town with another band, Percy and this student, who were both fans of Mick, went to see him. After the show, they went backstage to meet him. He said when Mick realized Percy had come to see him, he was totally humbled and embarrassed.

    Just listening to Japan whom were an awesome Band back then, but I think a lot of what Mick did with Japan got lost in the mix somewhere , whereas Numan really pushes Micks bass to the forefront of the track and made it stand out. And I think Mick Karn was a genius Bassist sadly lost too early.

Es muy feo reírse d la opinión d la gente en un tema tan importante y fútil como la MUSICA ( no soporto a Queen....y, no llamo tontos, sordos, a los millones d seguidores que tienen....!!! Numan was a big fan of Japan, which is probably why he asked Mick to play on the Dance album. Should Karn get credit for writing the basslines? No, I don’t think so. He was credited as a musician. As a bass player he was given the freedom to fit his style of bass to the songs, with Numan probably making suggestions. Should Roger Taylor be given a writing credit for his drumming on ‘Moral’? Off course not. Should Nash The Slash be given writing credits for the tracks that he was used on? Off course not. As far as I’m aware, Numan has always been full of praise for the musicians that he hires. Pino Palladino really enjoyed working with Numan and said that he was surprised that Numan just let him do what he thought worked. Numan trusted his skill as a bass player. According to Numan, he was surprised and hurt, that despite working on the album, Karn slagged it off in several interviews. As for Joe Hubbard, Numan has stated that he was the most unprofessional musician he had ever worked with. Allegedly, during the 1983 Warriors tour he was a massive diva and was forever complaining. And let’s not forget the late Paul Gardiner who was with Gary right from the start with Tubeway Army. It was his bass playing on all the albums up to Telekon and it’s fair to say that he was a brilliant musician who is sadly underrated. Listening now to those early albums you can hear that he was doing some really interesting things. He wasn’t as ‘flash’ as Karn or Palladino, but he did have a style that was, in it’s own way, very unique.

      Is this "Memories like tears in rain" any reference to the film 'Blade Runner' and its final scene with Rutger Hauer as the character Roy Batty where he says, "These moments will be lost in time like tears in rain"?

      Generally, co-writing credits are not given for creative input. In jazz, for example, if you gave co-writing credits to creative input then every song would be a full band credit, which becomes ridiculous after a while. Some artists might hand out a co-writing credit out of the goodness of their hearts but it isn't usually done that way. Gary wrote the song, Gary gets the credit.

    Didn’t he write the pretty much write everything for Dalis Car? It certainly has a Japan feel.

    Numan was such an imitator. First he tried to copy the sound of John Foxx Era Ultravox then he tried to copy Gentlemen Take Polaroids era Japan, both times hiring musicians from both bands and following Japan around on tour. Both times he failed to come anywhere near the level of quality either of hose bands achieved.

  • @Eltronn

    Gary DIDN'T write the baseline to this track, he didn't write any of the bass lines on Dance with the exception of Night Talk In most cases with Mick he used the initial first take of the bass Mick put down. It was the same with Warriors with Joe Hubbard, both Mick Karen and Joe Hubbard fell out with Gary over not getting the credit. With Pino I'm not so sure, but I think again Pino did a lot of the baselines Gary just gave him a few ideas. Gary has only ever written with a Bass Guitar on three songs Cars being one, the other was Night Talk and Stormtrooper In Drag.

    • @nedley100
      @nedley100  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed. No one has ever written Micks basslines.. how the hell could they? He was unique. Mick couldn't read music anyway.. it all came from his head.... "shapes" as he used to call them.
