Awesome video from someone with expertise that actually grows both varieties!

My Smith and cessac perform completely differently also. They can look kinda similar, but in my environment ( lots of shade) Cessac is much easier to get to fruit

Agree. You have to try to understand they are different. Smith is jammy and sweet, Cessac might look dry on the inside but as soon you start eating it, it coats your mouth like a spoon of syrup or honey.
Both are great figs, that I will always keep in my collection.

Thanks for the video. I do see the difference you pointed out on the leaves (smith more pointed in the middle lobe and Cessac more rounded). I’ll have to check my trees tomorrow and compare. What about Texas ba1 tho? Do you have that one? I’ll have to do a 3 way comparison tomorrow when there’s light.

@firstname7769 That would be great. Thanks! I dont have Texas ba1, it might have more similarities when it comes to leaf shape, but then, if Texas ba1 looks like a Cessac, and Smith doesn't look like a Cessac, then why Texas ba1 is always compared to Smith lol

@@MJFIGS lol right. I just added cessac this winter but have had smith and txba1 for a couple years; very similar leaves and growth pattern. I’m going to look more closely at the shape of the lobes now. Btw both smith and txba1 are being very stingy to fruit for me, just want to grow green (perhaps another similarities? 🤔🧐😂)

@firstname7769 Smith on average needs 3 years before it starts producing figs. But once it starts, all you are going to see is figs.
Another difference between Cessac and Smith is how productive Smith is compared to Cessac.
