    This is awesome Synthwave!! And the little drum machine is sweet!! I just bought one on ebay and awaiting its arrival. I remember when they came out, I had just got the SP202 but I already had an MC303 and a JX305 and thought I didn't need this. But I realize now just how awesome it is all on its own. So I am about 20+ years late but oh well \m/

    Fun fact: These tom sounds are heard in the Kid's next door intro haha. I just noticed it a few days ago and it reminded me about this video. Excellent production Tier, I love all your work and your awesome tech!

    In Miami Nights 1984 songs Sunseeker (2011) and Early Summer (2011), the Yamaha Clavinova CVP-105 patch “Electro Kit” is heard.

    I've been checking 202 videos out lately and this one seems to be the only one really selling me on it. The fact you did this with all its internal effects is pretty sick too. Thanks for this.

    I have the DR-880 but your videos and others led me to getting one on auction .... the 880 can sent a bass part to external MIDI, but the 880 can do two parts .... and the drum kits are everything thats lacking on the 880. I think it has 3 techno kits total, but nothing that sounds like this.

      Hi, it’s a custom kit. I put the sample names and edit settings on the video so you can recreate the sound 👌🏻

    Excellent work! That creamy bassline! Not sure if is made up from several layers, but would like to know which synth you used to make it?

    • @tiergrinder
      @tiergrinder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! The bassline is actually VST. Its Korg Polysix VST from their Legacy collection. Bassline is pretty simple "bouncy" 16th note bassline that plays in two octaves. I have to check to notes, but it plays couple notes at lower octave, then one at the upper and drops back to lower octave.

    • @SaifSameer
      @SaifSameer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah no doubt it sounds very organic, indeed the Polysix sounds so typical to the hardware.
      Since you're using VSTs, do you use Spire also?

    • @tiergrinder
      @tiergrinder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have to say that I'm so stuck using the same VST's over and over again that I'm almost embarrassed.. :D I know people used to use Massive and then Uhe Diva was next big thing.. My go VST's are Korg's Polysix VST, mostly for basslines. TAL-Bassline-101 and TAL-U-No-62 for Roland sounds and FM8 for FM-synths.
      The VST I load up first no matter what project I start is the P8 Superwave, I just love that synth! It's free and it does awesome job on emulating old polysynth sounds. When ever I write chords with DAW I load P8 Superwave, use the preset Polysynth1 and start noodling.
      Time to time I turn to free PG8X VST when I write stuff for Jx-8P. PG8X sounds great on it's own, but since I have the real deal I later recreate the sounds with hardware.

    • @SaifSameer
      @SaifSameer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it is a very good strategy to keep things organized and clean, as well as that will maintain the "signature" of your style..
      Looking forward to see more posts. Thanks mate

    Hello ! i was wondering how long a sequence you could record into the boss dr 202 with external gear ?

  • @sauermusicDE
    @sauermusicDE 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my newest track "Italo Disco Synthwave" (basically a short POLY-LD8 VSTi demo) I used drum samples from the YAMAHA PortaSound PSS-780 keyboard for the "Simmons SDS V" toms. They are doing pretty well after some compression in FL Studio. :-)

    Hey, I’m looking to buy this drum machine and I was wondering..
    Do the drums in the video can be found as a sound bank right out of the box, or you need to load them from the computer?
    Is it even possible to load samples from a computer?
    Thanks for the video!

    • @tiergrinder
      @tiergrinder 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ram Revivo You can find these samples from internal preset samples. I put patch numbers in the video, for example 707K (055) is TR-707 Kick I used

    Excellent upload, thank you for going to the effort ~ I've had one of these very capable toys for about a year & your tutorial has finally helped things click!
    1) If you still have the settings saved, I'd like to clarify some things.
    2) What tempo are you at?
    3) Are you also using CrashC 185, Pitch +58?
    4) WindNZ 240?
    5) Do you drop the 244 Bombb?
    6) How do you get your crash to ring out for so long? 2:36
