  • Using the rebuild kit available through Resto country, previously kingswood country, we rebuild the neglected and fatigued front end of the hj wagon.

Love your work Jake. You, & your brother's knowledge of these old Holden's is second to none. Absolutely love your down to earth video's. From an ex-South Australian!

Cheers mate I appreciate it. Our strengths and knowledge of these cars are very parallel but it’s always good to keep learning new things about them and always being able to reflect off each other.

    Yeah good video.
I remember helping my step dad do exactly this job on the same rig! Only difference was it was a 253 four speed.
A mechanic from Boyded Holden told my steppy to put the bottom control arm on the knuckle and jack the arm up to the chassis as there wasn't much room for spring compressors.
    Work a charm.
    Dig ya work.
    Keep the content coming.
    Cheers from Penrith.

chuck the bushings in the freezer next time and it'll shrink nicely for pressing. Bang up job mate, very helpful video (assuming there's a freezer easily accessible)

I’ve always heard about that but never tried it. May have to give it a go in the future. When I did this front end it was 35 plus degrees so I don’t think they would have stayed cool enough while I press them in. Maybe next time.

Coincidentally I just did my controls arms a couple of days ago. I found those lower ball joints a hassle to get going in straight, I blamed it on the grooved lines they have on the new ones, I reckon they are a tad fatter. After my nice spray job on the control arms I was miffed i scraped them up getting the bastards in.

The grooves are knurling so that the ball joint stays in there once it’s in there, the lower ball joints are a pain. They’ll never go in straight. The wishbone is curved and the ball joint receiver is straight so the ball joint is going to go on an angle from the get go. Just have to work your way round. I don’t do them enough to warrant me making an Individual receiver to compensate that though.
As for them being bigger, they do sell an oversized ball joint and I’ve been sent them by mistake so it’s best to check the part number before attempting it 👍🏻

Old Lizzy was having a great munch out there. Sweet as.
    All my lizards are mysterious.
Anyways cheers for the look over the front build. Looks easy as f*#k and good fun.

It’s funny I was only filming another video yesterday and caught myself side tracked following a goanna!
It’s one of those things that’s easy to power through making sure you cover yourself in certain parts. This video was over two days. Probably would have been quicker but I spent most the time rolling around in the dirt in 35 degree heat.
