    HI Tim! Great video, and thanks for the shout-out! I'm not aware of any of the saws I have having that much play in them - that's a lot! I'll check them again - you have me worried now 😂 - and will post back here. Some of the entry-level saws have had somer quality control issues, but I've never had anything like that - though I have heard of it from a couple of other people, so I'll definitely be checking. I'll get back to you, OK? Great channel, now subscribed! 👍👍

      oh that was quick wow, thank you very much I really appreciate it ;-) I spend the afternoon to make lots of test-cuts and when you plunge in the middle of a piece of wood (sink install) the cut is very messed up. But for straight cuts, it is still okay when you don't lift the blade and holding the saw down very consistent. I made also a couple 2500mm cuts baaaaa that was not so funny. Okay for 99 Euro I will say nothing and for ripping down big sheets it is still okay but I am sure I will spend the money for the Festool later this year course I am every time very impressed what you build just with the MFT.
      So thanks again and see you soon

      @@Timshowtomake I'm back to leave the comment your efforts deserve! I enjoyed your video and it was helpful to me in my decision to purchase the WEN saw here in the USA, which is identical to your Mac Allister. Hello Tim, I've bought the saw last week to replace an old circular saw. Used it to cut down kitchen larder cabinets to size. Very happy with it & no play. Changed blade to a saxton 60 tooth blade to avoid chipping laminate.

  • @007JHS
    @007JHS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The third position of that little top switch aligns the retaining screw for the blade with the port in the shroud. This allow the blade to be removed without opening the shroud.

    I have the scheppach PL55, I could never get it to make perfect 90 degrees cuts. I noticed that there was play at the pivot point; not as bad as the macallister but bad enough to affect the accuracy of the cut. I would love to know if you tried to fix it.

    I'm pondering buying a MacAllister plunge saw for relatively infrequent use - i just wondered how effective the non-slip strips are on the underside of the rails?
    Most videos seem to just position the rails on the sheet .... rather than clamping them down. I've been using an ancient B&D Proline circular saw running against an Axminster board clamp as the guide/straight edge but the saw has seen better days - hence the possible replacement.

    • @Timshowtomake
      @Timshowtomake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, and thanks for your comment. The MacAllister is a very good saw to start in track saw cutting. I made lot's of cuts with the new saw and I never had to clamp the rail down. I made another soon about this saw. So you may watch the video bevor you buy the saw. I still have to try the guide rail on laminated wood to see or test the non-slip strips. I already finish the build from the big wine rack and was using this saw to rip down big sheets. This goes very very well. So if you have more questions about this saw, let me know so I can answer the questions directly in the video.
      Have a nice day Tim

    • @lynjermey6423
      @lynjermey6423 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought one today and it's not 100% still when sawing but it only takes a gentle hand on top to still it. You could always clamp one end to be sure. I thought it was worth the money.

    Your power and vacuum boom looks like a very useful adjunct to the track saw.
    But why two track saws? Was this the cheapest way to get more track, or do you plan on two different uses for the saws? I thought though most of the video that the two copies were a video editing trick.

    • @Timshowtomake
      @Timshowtomake 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha thanks for your comment. No it was not a video trick but nice idea 😎 the second one is for my second shop next to the first one but you see this in the future. Normally I want but out the wall between the two shops but it is way to expensive to realize so maybe in the future but for now I go around 🥵

    Any ideas about the comparability of the guide rails with other rails? Especially, looking at budget rails like excel and evolution. I think lever clamps are a worthwhile investment but I measured the rail as 12mm so one mm smaller than popular brands. I have this saw and I strongly advise removal of the third rotary knob that prevent the saw from moving backwards and causes excess drag. The saw has reasonable power and can kickback if you’re not operating fully on the track. Also, the dust collection for me is dismal. Other than that for £80 you can’t get robbed. Thanks for your review.
