The rough travel and expense in this vlog may not be eye-candy and touristy but the thing is this is the reality. This is not bait. This is what the usual filipino passenger encounter from day to day and Mergim still did a good job to show what tourists should expect from travelling. Also, this is exactly what other vloggers hide from their viewers, the not-so-good part and filtering only the good shots.
Kudos to Mergim and Maya for having the courage to keep the vlog real. 👍🏻

Come on man, the road they travelled and transport they chosen is long route and would not give you comfort travelling. Jeepneys are usually for short distance cheap rides, what do you expect? There are car rentals, van rides you can hire and can move you to any place you want comfortably.
Also in Batangas City, some hotels are expensive but you can find some cheap ones, just plan you travel ahead.

It could be a blessing in disguise. Batangas has a city port with direct ferry to BORACAY at affordable price. From Boracay you can head next to ILOILO and it's adjacent islands like Guimaras . There's ferry that can bring you to the islands and have NIGHT trips with cabin thereby saving room accommodation at night and arriving at next destination in the mornings. Yup , try book accommodations on ferries at night schedules and arrive in the mornings in a new island saving you expensive hotels .

We can just imagine how exhausting that trip was. Batangas is somewhat a huge province and it has such a diverse landscape. They have beaches, lakes, hiking trails, historical areas etc. The thing is, it can sometimes be more convenient to plan things ahead before going, or even secure a private mode of transportation that can take you around the area.Though others prefer public transpo for personal reasons. I personally have been to Anilao, Nasugbu and Laiya. But great vlog episode as usual. It's good that you're not trying to sugar coat every experience. Every traveller is bound to face some challenges one way or another and we appreciate the honesty. 🙂

I would like to think that there is method to Mergim's madness. Taking public transportation allows the camera to be at street level and forces him to interact with people continuously by asking for direction, negotiating prices, soliciting opinions, etc. What I find intriguing is that Mergim tries to be a part of a situation rather than apart from it. It's working because he appears to be genuine.

Hi Mergim, I have subscribed to your channel since you decided to visit the Philippines from Thailand where you had only 6k subscribers. Now with your tour of the Philippines, you average an additional 3k subscribers a day. Quite an exponential quantity because of your honest and down-to-earth review of the places, people and sights you have encountered. I note as well that your new subscribers are English-speakers as every Filipino is. Thus, fully understanding the joys of your travel. Your following is much like the hundreds of foreigners who have vlogged here in the Philippines before you.
In this latest vlog you have in travelling from Tagaytay to Batangas City, you commented that Batangas is “not tourist-friendly” and has “extornionist” price of their hotels. While I personally appreciate your frank and honest review, I find it inaccurate and missing the mark. The waiter in Tagaytay told you to take 2 buses to Batangas City. You only took one and 2 jeepney rides after. You were not able to follow his advice. Hence, you have experienced the normal travel route/ journey of a local. In other words, you travelled as a local, and not as a tourist. Which means that you will be in a transportation with no air-conditioning and the constant stop-and-go for incoming and departing passengers. For a few hours, this will a take a toll on you physically. But remember, this is how the locals do it. I can see that a lot of locals assisted you along the way. In short, you did not spend money in your travel as a tourist, you did it as a local.
With your “extortionist” comment, unfortunately it is the price of those hotels when you just appear on the day asking for an accommodation. A local would be treated the same way. You may not be aware of seasonal changes in hotel prices. Pricy as it may be, it is what it is.
Your trip to Batangas was done on the fly with poor planning. You can only blame this ardous journey to being unprepared. Batangas has a lot to offer if you have given yourself time to research.
If you want to travel as a local, you will have to experience what they are experiencing. If you want to travel as a tourist and enjoy some comfort and save time, then you have to spend some money like a tourist. Simple as that.
Anyway, continue your adventure safely. You barely scratched the surface of what this country has to offer.

you speak the truth. unplanned trips can lead to delightful adventures or disastrous ones depending on what path you take (and your destination---there isn't much to see in Batangas City!). so can well-planned trips but you're much less likely to experience so much inconvenience when you don't do trips on the fly without a car.

Honestly, i was surprised that you decided to go to Batangas City when Nasugbu and nearby Calatagan, even Lemery, are much better because of the beaches. Batangas, especially Anilao, is really known for snorkeling and diving. Not much to do in the city itself.
Yeah, that was really a waste of time but just think of it as a good vlog content and a once-in-a-lifetime (mis)adventure. Your trip was informative though.
If you are in a bind as to where to go or what to do in new places, just ask the locals for some reco then double-check the info online. Who knows you might stumble into hidden gems.
Take some time to relax. Head on to the beaches if you can so you can escape the chaos of the city.
Editing this to suggest that since you are in Batangas City, why not visit PUERTO GALERA. There are ferries going there from the port. That place was very famous before but now people just head on to Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan to swim. It would be nice to see you explore Puerto Galera and the island of Mindoro in general.

However, the Batangas Port is there, a gateway to provinces like Mindoro, where Puerto Galera, famous for its dive spots, is. Also near Batangas City is the town of Taal (different from the volcano) where heritage houses are. It’s about 40 mins from Batangas City. It's always a good strat to ask the locals so that in the end you save a lot. The transit may have been burdensome at some point but during the duration you have met some of the most amazing people on earth. I just hope you find the value of money while you are in that city. Parts of the province is a well known diving haven so I can only hope that your activities today can loosen you up and make you not feel distressed why you ended there in the first place. There is always a positive and negative things happen, good or bad and that's part of our journey. I also feel exhausted when I watched your journey from tagaytay to batangas. I went to tagaytay but I didn't go batangas because that is too far from my house which is in bulacan but now I know that the hotel is expensive there. I like that you prefer to say things that might others find harsh but that's the reality and I like that you are honest about what you've experienced. I live in Batangas City so I don't actually know what the other hotels' prices are but Days, Luks Loft, and Ponte Fino are the pricier hotels. I think Luks Loft is the one with the P30,000 a night penthouse.
But there are definitely cheaper hotels.

This trip will be a memory to remember and look back on with nostalgia one day. It's easy to just get a plane or a one-way ride, but that's something you will just forget about. One of the worst trips of my life was going from Cebu to Samar ferry via Cokaliong. It was absolutely awful because the private rooms and aircon rooms were booked. I had to sit in a bunkbed with roosters all around me. I look back at it now as a very fond memory I will never forget. An incredible experience for me. Speaking of that, you should definitely take a ferry and experience how people live their lives here. Without the aircon room! 😉

Very authentic and the charm of having to commute as a local is very interesting to watch. If you're going to the Mindoro provinces from Batangas City port they are separated by two (Occidental & Oriental)
Oriental Mindoro has Puerto Galera - dubbed as a white beach and party town, like the Boracay from the past. The main nautical highway going to Boracay goes through this province aswell. You can hop off another ferry from Roxas town heading to Caticlan port (the main jump off point heading to Boracay)
Occidental Mindoro - is the least visited, off the beaten track of the Mindoros but it has unique tourist spots not many others come to. It governs Apo Reef - the second largest coral reef system in the world. Second only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, it is ideal for snorkeling and camping at the island within the protected area. Apo Reef is located at Sablayan town in Occidental Mindoro.

If I have to be honest, Mergim gives a vibe of someone who attracts misfortune or at least hardships. Maybe that is just the vibe that he gives because he doesn't smile much.
