  • The Carbon Issue of KPF Review, published this spring, looks at four projects that help decarbonize the built environment through their design. Each showcases a different approach, from utilizing a long-term perspective based on iterative improvement to making use of all-electric mechanical systems to heat and cool the building, leveraging passive design approaches to minimize energy consumption, and exploring innovative low-carbon building materials.
First in this series of case studies is HKUST(GZ), an iconic, innovative campus that combines the university’s programmatic aspirations with the site’s natural beauty and urban context, all the while targeting carbon neutrality and zero water waste. Learn how architects and environmental designers at KPF leveraged the latest in sustainable design to create this 267-acre research university campus on an accelerated timeline of only 18 months.
