  • In this video, we look at a topic that keep being raised on the comment section of this channel. Are Bawules not Asantes?
We have a look at the Bawule people (Les Baoulés) and have a discussion about them in relation to Guan languages. Do well to check out the history of the Guan languages lesson 1 - • HISTORY OF THE GUANS O...
    Nungua Ngmala-Tikali yam festival - • NGMALA & TIKALI AKOM D...
My book 📚 KNOW GHANA BETTER which details oral histories of Ghanaian tribes, migration accounts, festivals, languages spoken in Ghana, tourist sites, legends and many more is on sale. There are 9 main language groups in Ghana
    - Guan
    - Ga-Dangme
    - Ewe
    - Senufo
    - Ghana-Togo Mountain Languages
    - Mole- Dagbon
    - Gurunsi
    - Akan
    - Gurma
We dissect all these 9 groups and learn their various historical accounts, dialects, tourism potentials and how their communities came about and their languages into great details.
KNOW GHANA BETTER started with the dream of a young lad who had questions about the origin of most of the ethnic groups in Ghana and the reason why some languages are evidently the same yet, some ethnic groups claim they are different from them. We told the history the Ghanaian way: born of unity and not the one of separation as passed down to some of us. Some languages were born out of some.
You cannot tell the history of some communities in isolation from the others. In short, all Ghanaian ethnic groups are interconnected.
BOTH SOFT COPIES AND HARD COPIES ARE OUT
In KNOW GHANA BETTER, you get details about the origin of names of communities, ethnic groups, languages and festivals; where they are celebrated and many more. The total list of Languages spoken in Ghana, tourist sites and many more are all available in the book.
To get the soft copy, Do well to download Africaread from the Google playstore and type 📚 KNOW GHANA BETTER within the app.play.google.co...

Oh and even on one easter visit to Anum... I was told by some elder bi about the origin of the word Onyame...he said it's a corruption of the Gua saying "bigger than me" "ade onyeme" to "onyeme" so the Baule might have taken that to ivory coast

You’re correct … Asante is a relatively recent creation…Asante was created in Ghana after the Akan migration

Don’t forget that the Baoule people are actually Anyin people, they won’t admit it but it is facts. Majority are Anyi mixed with Asantes (Abla Pokou and her followers), Denkyira, Bono, Krobo etc
They are mixed now but majority are Anyin

As for the case of the Baules its a mixture of earlier Guan settlers in Ivory Coast and Asantes from the civil war split. Also in the expansion of the Asante empire the Eastern parts of Ivory Coast were conquered thus the introduction of more Asantes . It was mainly ignited when a Twifo Guan king created his own version of the Golden stool which the Asantes saw as an insult.

Sure Baoulé are mixture of several people including denkyira, Asante, guan... People use to says baoulé are Asante because the leaders who rules the baoule as a tribe in ivory coast where mainly baoule assabou who came directly from kumassi Nsuta. This history is well know by baoulé tradition in sakassou ivory coast.

Great video! I am baule and I appreciate the discussion about the origins of my people. I command the efforts of our host. However, I am appalled by the approach of the analysis which is solely linguistic. I believe that the efforts to reconstruct the history of people should also involve other areas of research. History teaches us that upon the death of Osei Tutu in the early 18th century, there was a war of succession, which caused the late king's niece Abenan Opoku to flee from the kingdom with her people. They fled towards the west being chased by the new kings guards, her brother Opoku Ware I. The queen found refuge with the anyis, where she made her people learn a new language so they could blend in. That could explain why the language baoules speak today is so close to the Nzima and Agni languages. Later the queen left her hosts and went on to create a new kingdom in todays ivory coast.. The queens original people were all ashantis (Asabus which has the same root word as asanti, that asa which means war... Asante = because of the war and Asa bu= those who broke away because of the war). The queens powerful army fought with the Asante war strategy and bravery. That helped them conquer other groups such as the denkyra... to include in the newly founded baoule kingdom. In the Ivory Coast today some baoules refused to be included in the world built by Queen Opoku because of the difference if status whether you are part of the original Asabu or not. Baoule people are thus from different origins, though they speak a generally similar language. Language, religion could not define peoples origins as they could be learned or unlearned. In the year 1993, a delegation from the Asante kingdom came to Sakassou and evaluated the late queens royal artifacts. It appeared clearly that the artifacts were authentic duplicate of those found in Kumanse (Ghana). It was just concluded that the queen was indeed part of the royal family of the Asante.
For my brother, I appreciate your work and I follow you from the USA. I used your videos to learn some Nzema to blend in my family in law as my wife is from that tribe in the Ivory Coast. Keep up the good work, brother and God bless you abundantly!❤❤😂😂

Baoule as mixed now, mainly Guans, Akans, even Krobos and other groups in Côte d’Ivoire.
Infact almost all the Akans in Côte d’Ivoire apart from Bono Gyaaman people are mixed with the Guans which is why many Ivorian Akans don’t understand Twi.
The Assabou royal clan (Baoule royal family) in Sakassou in Côte d’Ivoire are the Asantes.

    • @kobyk8784
      @kobyk8784 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Don’t also forget that Abla Pokou (Abena Pokuaa) dropped Asante Twi for Anyi when she escaped from Kumasi and Nsuta.
They mixed with the Anyis who are now Guan-Akans.

Really educating and researching work. You are genius and good historian.
I have a question for you my good friend.
    1. The migration of Guans as historians trace it to Israel, Egypt, Mali etc. What is your research founding to this.
    2. What is the general linguistic between akans and guans to pre-migration history.
    Anyway I'm guan from nkonya.

Guans are the originals but because they are the minority in most cases at where they find themselves they assumes the identity of the majority because they are very peaceful people. The Akans speak Twi with different accents. You are confusing us Akan is an earthnic group of which Asantis and all the rest are part wherether in Ghana or Ivory coast. Is like Ewe is an earthnic group whether you are in Ghana, Togo, Benin or Nigeria. We are speaks ewe with different accents and sometimes words. African countries were greated by Europeans which did not take into account our ethnicity.

Akans are primarily made up of Guanfo, Twifo and Fantefo. The early Guan settlement made them distinct from the latter Akan groups. I think the main argument here is whether Guans are twifo which they aren't but they are still under the Akan umbrella

    • @erupted7442
